The sportsmanship committee of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is meeting today to discuss whether or not they should urge schools in this state to change their mascot names to be less offensive to Native Americans.

What do you think?  Should schools be forced to change their Native American mascot team names?

No school should have to waste the time and money to change their mascot and whoever brought this up needs to find a better use of their free time. I am so sick of the push for political correctness that it's not funny. Everything can be construed as offensive to somebody or other so everybody just stop your whining already and get on with your life.

Politically correct nonsense. Drivel. Worthless use of a school function.

Everyone gets offended now a days. It a complement to have a native mascot, not a offensive meaning. The name warrior is empowering and i think people should take it as a completment.

I live in Foxborough who's town mascot is a Warrior...the change isn't needed. Having a native american symbol as a mascot brings pride to a heritage. This town is very proud to be called the Warriors and why change it? There's no need, it's not like the towns are making fun of anything what so ever. It's all about pride and that's what the towns do with the names they have wether it's related to a heritage or not. I mean are they going to make Walpole change their rebel name, because it has ties to racism or make the girls field hockey team stop being called the porkers cause it could make girls feel fat??? Come on now you can't just change one you'd have to change them all.

This is just a bunch of nonsense. Honestly, it is just a name, and nothing more. If people are supposedly offended by this, then why haven't we heard from them? the answer is because no one is offended by this, and those who are need to realize it is just a name, and that the entire world cannot be PC. I am from Algonquin, the Tomahawks, and I would be heart-broken if we lost our name.

I don't believe that schools should have to change their mascots. Having a warrior or any other native american symbol as your mascot should seem honoring to Native Americas, I don't believe that it is degrading in anyway.

Absolutely not. A mascot is part of a school's history. A Native American mascot is something to be proud of, it's not racist.

Perhaps the Sportsmanship committee should be more focused on teaching children to respect the fact that their school was named after people that were instrumental in creating this country. Don't we have more important things to worry about...like education!!!
