I'm not a parent myself, but I can only imagine the feeling in the pit of this father's stomach when he saw a hand reaching from underneath a bathroom stall for his four year old son. This happened at the Market Basket in Raynham, where a store clerk is facing charges for allegedly groping the boy. The father is also being charged with assault and battery after police say he punched that store clerk. The clerk told police that he was "just fooling around," and didn't mean any harm. The store has suspended the worker pending an investigation. Of course, the important thing here, is that the boy wasn't hurt. Should the father face charges? Do you believe the store clerk?

Hell no! I didn't just fall off the turnip truck and neither did everybody else.

Who reaches into a stall with a child in it for laughs. Especially with all that is going on in the world today. Just another sicko if you ask me. Put the father in front of any jury and he'll walk. He doesn't deserve to have to pay for lawyers though.

The charges should be dropped!

I would have done the same thing! No the father shouldn"t face charges, he was doing what a father should do, protecting his child, the clerk should face charges, Why would you do something like that fooling around? I think he had other intentions!

HE'S LUCKY HE ONLY GOT A COUPLE OF PUNCHES. I'M A MOM OF 2 YOUNG BOYS AND TRUST ME, HE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN ALOT MORE THAN THAT. WHAT HAS THIS WORLD COME TO? WE CAN'T TRUST ANYONE ANYMORE, THE SYSTEM DOESN'T DO MUCH TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AND THE ONES THAT DO REACT AND TRY TO PROTECT ARE THE ONES THAT GET IN TROUBLE! WAY TO GO DAD!! YOUR SON HAS SOMEONE THAT WILL PROTECT HIM AT ALL COSTS!!

Sorry you don't reach under a stall and say I was only joking. WAY TO GO DAD!!!!! I give him credit for not killing the man. They should drop the charges on the dad. You have every right to defend yourself and a 4 year old boy cannot against an adult. The father had every right to defend his child when he believed harm may come to him. This child is the victim not the perv.

I have two young sons, one of them is 4.
If I had been in a similar situation, this guy would have had to be carried out on a gurney. In what twisted reality would his actions be considered amusing?!?

Kudos to the Dad and let us know where we can contribute to a defense fund for him...

In good ol mass., the father will go to jail and the PERV will walk to do it again.

And if the perv does go to jail, we'll all end up paying for his sex change surgery, his hair restoration services and who knows what else.
You go, dad! If you're going to be charged with assault, I hope you got a few good punches in.

And if the perv does go to jail, you know we (the taxpayers) will end up paying for his gender reassignment surgery, his hair restoration and who knows what else. Let's all hope Judge Maria Lopez isn't on the case...or it's curtains for the Dad.

OK I debated long on whether I should respond to this blog, knowing some of the things that might be said to me. Here it goes. In Adams piece he uses the word grope. In my day grope meant coping a cheap feel in the crotch. He touched the boy on the leg. The clerk was fully dressed. Could he have been just playing trying to scare the boy? Should he have done it. No! Could this be a terrible misunderstanding. Maybe. Should the father have hit him. No! and here's my thinking behind that. The man was 72 years old and to be punched in the face several times was not right. It just doesnt appear like a case of a perverted man trying to cop a feel. So for all of you who are so sure of his intentions and think you would have done the same thing try to look at it from a different angle. Why would an old man do such a thing with the boys father right there.

Definitely no!! Give this man an award. If that was one of my kids I would do the same in a heartbeat. The store management should be ashamed and held accountable for letting this predator be around children.

As a parent of a 4 year old, joking around in a manner such as this is absolutely not appropriate! Way to go Dad!

Hell no! The father should not face charges! He was just trying to protect his son! Any father would do the same! I say put that sicko behind bars and let the father go. That sicko had it comeing. And most people would say he desived worse. Let the father be and get that sicko off the streets before he gos after another kid!

the father should have not been charged in the first place. this also goes to show these sick perverts can not be cured. 71 years old ,I can't imagine how many victims and for how many years this wackjob has molested inocent children. I would have done the same if not more.

No charges should be taken. The only one that should be arrested is the man touching a child. He should lose his job and do jail time. I don't understand why people seem to get away with this. What is wrong with market basket keeping this man!!! The father had every right to do what he did. I would have done the same. And press charges against him and market basket.

Why does he get charged for protecting his 4year old son?
They would have had to pull me off the guy.
we as parents need to be able to protect our children

Like everyone else here......

Adam, reaching under a bathroom stall and grabbing a four year old by the leg is NOT amusing. Not in the least bit. Like TheRealAmerican, my husband would have sent him out of there minus 2 arms. They would have been ripped out at the socket. I am SICK of these sob's thinking they can do what they want. Time for the people to take it into their hands to protect their children since this state has decided not to protect them (watering down Jessica's Law). He's lucky he messed with a dad that only beat him up a bit.

to colleenagnes the father was in the bathroom, his son was in the stall and the father was at the urinal, obviously this man heard the father talking to his son as he put him on a bucket to stand on, to reach the toilet he was just waiting for a victim to attack.
