Just to be clear, this condo association in Pembroke did not want people to remove these ribbons supporting our troops. It wanted people who tied the ribbons on columns to hang them on their front doors, instead. The board of trustees considered the columns to be a common area, and stated that no decorations are allowed in those areas. However, residents who tied the ribbons on the columns, have yet to take them down. What do you think? Should they be allowed to hang ribbons anywhere they want? Your thoughts?

Although I find it disturbing that they association wanted to take the ribbons down in the first place, I do agree. By placing the ribbons on the common areas, it looks as though this particular condo neighborhood supports the troops. Well believe it or not, there may be somene in the neighboorhood that doesn't support the troops or feels that if you want to support the troops do it on your own property like your car or your condo, not a common area.

It does not take a ribbon to remind me about our troops. I think of them often during the day.

Condo rules are tough and need to be followed.
"Good fences make good neighbors".

It is a common area if the condo association pays for the repairs on it. The board is in charge on how the common area works.

This ruling can work in the invidual's favor. The next time the column needs repair, the individual should remind the asscociation of its ruling.

Reasonably stated, "Leet."

I'm beyond tired of the angry lynch-mob.

I have nothing against people who put up ribbons, but I personally feel like it's falsely pious. I don't need a ribbon to express my concern for the troops, either.

If you get all outraged over not being able to put up ribbons wherever you want, the chances are you're getting your feathers ruffled over some pretty small potatoes. Why let it make you get all bent out of shape?

You want to get bent out of shape, get bent out of shape about the fact that Barack Obama seems to be escaping accountability for his major flopping on the war. ...Just by claiming to be interested in "the broader issue." Whether he's interested in the broader issue or not doesn't change the fact that his wavering position is ambiguous at best.

And it's quite obvious that you haven't had a loved one serving in these recent conflicts. Some complain that GW Bush never asked Americans to sacrifice. Well I'm asking for him. Don't be afraid to show you support for our brave protectors. Don't hide it behind closed doors. Let it be seen by all. Shout it our for all to hear. America is my homeland. Love it, or leave it!

Happy,

My position doesn't hinge on having a loved one serve in these conflicts. As I said, I have nothing against someone who puts a ribbon on their car or their house, but should I be allowed to come into your yard or a public place and bury it with material items to signify my support for...whatever...? I just don't see the need these people have to put ribbons EVERYWHERE at the expense of causing a fight.
Look, I'm with John McCain on his positions regarding the war. There's no doubt in anyone's mind (who knows me) that I support our troops...and I don't require a yellow ribbon to prove it. I can't get into the whole "look at me, everybody...I support our troops!" thing. If you do, well God bless you...if that's what works for you, fine.
From a PERSONAL standpoint, I see it as false piety. If it's different for you, personally...wonderful!

Words sometimes get written incorrectly. I think everyone is in support of our troops. Some may not be in support of the reason the troops are there.

The ribbons get moved from outside to inside.
They are still sending the same message.

It seems to be taking a while for my response to you to get posted, Happy. It may have become another one of the inexplicable "ghost-posts" I've come to expect on this site. ...Hopefully not, but if these words are directly under your last ones...

You sign a piece a paper before you move in and that's the final word. Unfortunately, these are the same people that come Christmas will now say if I can't have my yellow ribbon you can't put lights up. A so begins the battle with lawyers and all that silly nonsense.

This is the very reason why these Condo Doc’s were written, to prevent these types of situations from happening. Can you see how bad these ribbons are going to look after a few days of bad weather when they’re all dirty, soiled and drooping? Who wants to look at that? What if Mrs. Jone's dog died should she be able to display pictures of her beloved dog out side of her house? Should everyone be able to do this? It’s ridiculous that’s why they have these rules.

If these so called people really want to show support for our troops they should get involved with the people who are actually doing something like sending them care packages or they should get in touch with the loved ones of the troops family that were left behind and maybe volunteer to help them with baby sitting, shopping, ironing etc, etc. not just put a yellow ribbon on the front of their house and think their doing a big thing that’s going to look like BLEEP after a few days.

The whole purpose for having these rules is to prevent these types of nuisances. The people who are going against the rules are both a problem and a nuisance, these same people have been singled out for what their doing and they are the ones who should be held accountable for their actions

I'd be happy to move my ribbon from a column to my front door, if that were the rules.

Jovan You said it perfectly. It's like those people who love the USA and drive with an American Flag on their car antenna. Nothing makes me more angry than to see our country's symbol riped and torn and flapping in the breeze. Police should pull them over and give them a ticket.

I'm not understanding the commotion. They are being asked to move them from the front columns to their front door. I just saw a shot of the front of these condos on Fox. WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?? If they are hanging on the front door, they are still pretty visible. They can still show their support. Just move the ribbons people. Really, in this case at least, it's not really that big of a move. Besides, like many have stated, when you rent a place, they have rules. Whether you like them or not, you sign a contract saying you will follow them. Period.

June,

This has nothing to do with being Patriotic and everything to do with being obstinate.

AND...it has alot to do with feeling like you're too special to follow rules you've agreed to follow.

Again with judgements on people you have never met. If they are related to people fighting this war, I am sure they are special, but in a good way.

We know next to nothing about the people who wish to keep the ribbons there. Maybe the condo is lose in enforcing other rules. Maybe some people keep bikes on the terrace or there are unregistered cars in the parking lot. If this is the case, maybe the poster feels a ribbon should be no problem.
