Albert Arroyo ... you probably know him by now ... the Boston firefighter who claimed he was disabled, but video of him surfaced all over competing in a bodybuilding competition.

Back in March he reportedly suffered a back injury on the job from a fall, and he went on disability retirement. But then in May he showed up at that now infamous bodybuilding championship.

Arroyo's attorney claims his client's bodybuilding routine was intended to help his back injury. But the Boston Fire Department doesn't seem to be buying that, denying the firefighter's reinstatement to his $81,000-a-year job as a Boston fire inspector.

What do you think?

Arroyo and his attorney spoke today ... we have live coverage tonight at 10 and 11.

I think you guys need to report on the freakin' Retirement Board. They, with the input of ther own physician, gave it to him....I asked for a solid gold cadillac for my birthday....my wife didn't buy it!!!

Knowing the way things work, he will get reinstated with back pay and interest.

This is BULL. The man worked a DESK job. He can lift dumbbells and do crunches, he can sit at a desk. And why does he want the job back now? They gave him 2 weeks to report to work and he didn't. Now he wants it back? If I don't report to work, after 2 days they'll send my personal items home DHL along with my pink slip. They gave his degenerate 2 WEEKS! I guess he wants things to happen the way he wants. This is a joke.

fenway, glad to see you are back. :)

June, DHL, how insulting!!! You deserve better than that. How about Fed-Ex? You know I joke and your point is so very well taken.

Fenway,
That would be the point. If I'm going to insult them by not showing up, they will insult me right back by sending my stuff DHL. LOL! I'd deserve it too!!!

They do recommend core exercises to strenghten your back if you hurt it, however, the exercises they recommend are very light. No way do you get into body building shape off them. He is full of it. I can smell him all the way over here!

This man "stains" all of us who just do our job. He doesn't deserve a pension or the right to wear the uniform.

Chopp143,

Question: Do you think a firefighter could get this type of injury past the Retirement Board YOUR department is covered under (PERAC, I assume?). Then I'd like to hear what you think about that.

I have a sister who has had Rheumatoid Arthritis since she was 4 years old. Her joints are all swollen and curled up. She has had ankle surgery, knee replacement and is in pain most days. Guess what!! She goes to work every day. She does not even have a Handicapped plate and walks from her car to the office. This guy is a disgrace and if they give him his job back it will be so unfair to every other person who hard for the fire dept. every day!

We are covered under PERAC with the final say being the 5 member City Retirement Board. Orthopedic disability pensions are rarely granted by the current board. We currently have 3 previously retired members (one of whom fought to stay on the job and was involuntarily retired) who were re-examined by PERAC and approved to return to duty. Unfortunately there are no perfect systems, but in my City the Board has become very diligent in how they handle all disability claims and rightly so.
