Something is going on in Plainfield, NH.

That's where Ed Brown, convicted of evading federal taxes, is holed up in his compound, while a  force of state and federal authorities seems to be gathering.

Ed Brown himself told a blog "too many funny things are going on." Brown says he's heard from a neighbor that state police were seen massing near his property. Brown said he saw a low flying plane fly across his property. And he adds that twice in the last 24 hours, the power at his compound was  shut off.

There are reports in the media that neighbors have seen a SWAT team in the area, as well as an armored vehicle. An AP photographer who was flying in a plane over Brown's property (don't know if this is the same plane Brown saw) today was ordered out of the airspace. There's also a report that state police have set up a checkpoint near Brown's property, and reporters are not allowed to pass it.

Something is going on.

Ed Brown was convicted back in January on federal tax evasion charges. Brown believes the federal tax codes are voluntary, and he doesn't have to pay. Brown and his wife were each sentenced to 5 1/4 years in prison. Ed Brown has said he will not surrender.

Earlier this year, Brown told Fox 25 that he was prepared  to wait things out for a long time at his property. There is a watch tower on his house, and he has battery power that can sustain his home if the power is cut off.

Since April, when Brown was sentenced in absentia, the AP wires say the feds have been negotiating with Brown so that this standoff doesn't turn violent.

It is now early June, Brown is still in his house, clearly the talking hasn't worked. And now there is a mass of police gathering nearby.

Something is happening.

What do you think should happen next? Should the feds just leave him alone? Should they storm in an arrest him? Let me know what you think.

The government should leave Ed Brown alone or show him and all of Americans the law that says we have to pay "income" tax.

You can't "EVADE" what you don't OWE. And calling it a "compound" is just trying to put a specific connotation of guilt onto Mr. Brown.

LEAVE HIM ALONE!

I think the deceitful Federal Government along with the Federal Reserve ( A private company btw) should admit their lies to the American People and release the Browns of any wrong doing. Please watch the following Documentaries for more details: America: Freedom to Fascism and The Money Masters. You can go to Google and click on the 'Video' option. Type it the names of the films and watch them FOR FREE!!!

Good for Ed! I think it's a great stand. I just hope no one gets hurt.

I have mixed feelings about this, Bob, because while I see that tax revenues are a necessary evil, they're still evil...particularly because the stuffed-shirts we elect to put them to good use only seem to mismanage them egregiously.
I can't decide what should be done about Ed Brown, but if he's shot then I will have that much more reason to distrust and hate our government. If that can't deal with this man without killing him, then I won't see our government as being much better than North Korea's.

Mr. Brown doesn't OWE anything and shouldn't have to go to jail. The income tax law is unjust and unlawful.
I hope more people will rise up against this tyranny.
Stay tuned folks ... this could be the start of the revolution America needs...... and it will give the president a chance to use all of those martial laws hes been passing over the past couple of years!

In a nutshell; who is our thieving government to murder someone who is really just resisting being thieved from? Do they want to be both thieves AND murderers?

I simply can't believe the repsonse here. It is our legal obligation to pay taxes. Taxation is enable by the Constitution, for crying out loud. I certainly don't like osme of the ways it's spent, but those decisions are made by legally elected officials.

The law must be enforced. However, I think the days of "storming" ended in Waco or on Ruby Ridge. Lay seige, shut off power and only use deadly force if he starts it.

Dear Chip, if you find the law that says you have to pay income tax, the We the People Foundation will reward you with 50,000 dollars and you will also solve the mystery of the missing income tax law that thousands of people are fretting over. You will also prevent many IRS agents from resigning unexpectedly due to thier own research and inability to find the law. So why don't you shut up, find the law and present it to the nation because we have been looking for it for years.

Hey Chip,

Why don't you find the law that requires you to pay an income tax and post it here.

Are you aware that there is a large reward being offered by people if you can find this law?

Are you aware that the reason the Brown's have started this standoff is because the court will not even tell them what law they are breaking?

Wake up!

Chip,

You need to watch Aaron Russo's movie, America: Freedom to Fascism. A real eye-opener! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-16568803038673

Taxation is legal, if direct and apportioned. The Federal Mafia has no jurisdiction over your wages and property, but they have an army to enforce their illegal tactics. You and I have only our fear and ignorance. The question is what is income? The confusing path to the answer is where we've been hoodwinked. Read the facts!

No, the authorities should put the Browns' lives in jeopardy over this issue.

Numerous challenges to find (or show) the law that requires an *individual* to pay taxes on his/her labor have gone unanswered.

Here's another interesting thing -- read up on the Robert Lawrence case in Peoria, Illinois. The DOJ set a precedent that seems to indicate that the form 1040 is a bootleg form, bearing a fraudulent OMB (Office of Management and Budget) Conrol Number. You are protected under the PRA (Paperwork Reduction Act) from having to file any paperwork with an invalid OMB control.

And last, Google "IRS Puerto Rico" and check out all the articles/documents showing how the IRS is a company (collection agency) chartered in Puerto Rico.

Let's do our homework, people! (*cough* Chip)

the government should give him a fair trial and follow law.they did not allow Ed Brown to present his evidence in the first trial and they did not follow law not telling him what the charges where until the trial had begun. this stand off is about more than Ed Brown its about America and a fair legal system. the government must be forced to understand that facts are facts evidence is evidence and the truth stays the truth they do not have the right to convict you based on opinions and falsehoods if they want to prosecute citizens for income tax evasion show the law that says income tax is legal but they wont because it is not. God Bless Ed Brown and the rest of Americans we will all be in real trouble real soon if we don't make a stand against abuse and corruption. we must stand against the hypocrites and liars who keep preaching they want us to be safe by terrorizing us.

Hey All, A study of your God given rights will find the answer you seek about taxes, the fifth ammendment prevents government to force anyone from bearing witness against oneself, the tax form that you are "required" to fill out on april 15th each year does just that. you are witnessing against yourself, therefor the the entire tax system is UNCONSTITUTIONAL irregardless wether or not there is a LAW or not, which there isn't, (it boils down to the definition of income and wages, the
Supreme Court has ruled on many cases that wages are not income and there for not taxable.) If the so called "Legally Elected Officials" -I have a real problem with that term, they are servants to the people not OFFICIALS. if these servants passed a LAW prohibiting the freedom of speech (oh wait they have) it is an illegal law because of the Constitution, the Constitution is the CHAINS that bind government from becoming an opressive tyranical/dictatorship, government thugs in black uniforms (oh BLEEP we have that)
1ST. ammendment ~ Congress shall make no LAW.... what part of that don't you get.

This is the beginning of the 2nd American Revolution. This government is enforcing laws that don't even exist.I mean, at least the British had a law "requiring" an income tax,but these tyrants, this mafia,DONT EVEN WRITE A LAW! And they enforce their King's tax by the barrel of a gun.If that isn't tyranny,i don't know what is.

RESIST THEM ED BROWN!!!

It sounds like this guy is ready to go down fighting so we'll see. I guess it depends on what he does if they try to come to his door. If he fires on them, I predict he winds up dead but if he doesn't, I would like to think the marshalls won't fire the first shot.

I don't see how this is the start of the second American Revolution though. Whether this guy winds up dead, in jail or left in his house, how does that change anything? Your employer is still going to tax your paycheck no matters what happens to him.

I agree with most of the comments here. The constitution clearly states that all taxes have to either be apportioned or avoidable. Income tax is not apportioned nor is it avoidable. Secondly, income is is taxed because it is called a profit, the supreme court however has specifically defined income as a persons property, which one is able to freely trade without penalty of taxation. Everyone should watch America: Freedom to Fascism
