Fugitive Bresnahan Spotted

One of the state's Most Wanted Fugitives, Michael Bresnahan, has been spotted in Springfield, Oregon on Saturday August 2, 2008.

These are surveillance pictures of Bresnhan taken at a Walmart where Bresnahan was shopping for camping gear last Saturday.

 


Michael Bresnahan is wanted for a brutal home invasion in Winchendon, MA on August 30, 2007. You may remember I featured this case on New England's Unsolved earlier this year, and the story included an exclusive interview with the victim.

I was struck by the victim's strength and courage as she bravely recounted the terror of the attack. The victim is a 61 year old woman, a retired school teacher. On the morning of August 30, 2007, she awoke to a man holding his hand over her face and warning her not to scream. She was tied up and assaulted for the next two hours, in her own home.

Police tell me they have strong physical evidence that connects Bresnahan to the attack. And when they went to arrest him, Michael Bresnahan was long gone.

It is believed Michael Bresnahan was in the New England area not long after the attack as there were possible sightings of Bresnahan near Winchendon and also in New Hampshire. But after that Michael Bresnahan completely disappeared.

Until now.

On Saturday, Bresnahan was spotted at a Walmart in Springfield, Oregon buying camping gear. He was also seen hitchhiking on Interstate 5 North. Police believe Bresnahan has been camping in the woods, and when he's ready to move on, he goes to truck stops and catches a lift. You can imagine finding this guy is no easy task.

No one knows where Bresnahan is headed. However, the fact that his last known direction is Northbound in Oregon has compelled law enforcement to put police in Oregon and Washington state on alert.
The Border Patrol has been notified, and so, too, have authorities in Canada.

Michael Bresnahan likes to play the guitar and sing. He has a light complexion and blue eyes.

But he might be best recognized by his tattoos. They are all over his body. And here they are:

This guy is considered armed and dangerous. If you know anything about his whereabouts, please call the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Section at 1.800.KAPTURE.

Bob, I don't know why this guy is still walking around. Don't you think if he's trying to hide a haircut might help. He's brazen and the police are slow.

Hi Dave,

What makes this guy hard to track (so far) is that he is 'off the grid' right now.

If he's hitching and camping, and likely working for cash, how can he be tracked?

But these pictures from a Walmart on the other side of the country reveal the noose might be tightening.
