OH MY GOD!  it has finally happened!  They have closed South Beach and State beach due to a shark sighting.  As a kid growing up on the Vineyard (and going to school with many of the people in Jaws) like C. Rebello and Jay Mello, We were always afraid of sharks after that.  My dad used to promise me that there are NO sharks around,,"It's okay to swim" he would say..well,  guess what?  He lied!

Incase you think this is an isolated incident, click on this youtube link and see something else.

Friggin horrifying.

I am personally going to call my dad and tell him off, I mean, I could have died.  I will NEVER swim again.

Ah geez. Just when I got over my very long fear of sharks from the movie...now.. crap. And our sailboat looks like three BIG dolphins from underwater. I keep my eyes peeled. Not sailing south anytime soon. Hopefully the water in Rockport is too cold for them.

Rox. Sharks, dont intenionally go after people. I bet they don't taste verry good either. I was on The vineyard working when Jaws was being filmed. I am in a truck parked in the scene with the huge tiger shark hanging. Jelley fish are more of a threat to people. The annual Shark tournament at Oak Bluffs Starts soon, so You can swim after that Rox. I am going to Falmouth next week, and I'll be swimming. I will never understand peoples fears, as the only thing I am afraid of is having enough money to retire !

Wow, you people are just cruel. Sharks need to eat too! I say we import a bunch of those polar bears the libbies claim are drowning up north and feed them to the sharks. At least that way we'll be clear to drill, drill and drill some more.

when iwas kid swimming i always looked back out towards the ocean to see if a Shark was behind me an i would swim like crazy to get to shore imagining that there was one chasing me...well one day decades later at the footbridge in Ogunquit i looked back as i swam in and saw something dark an big submerge behind me.....i swam in furiously when i got out of the water i looked back I L.M.A.O. it was the local Seal that hangs at the Fishing pier in Ogunquit.... :)

People like BostonRox (I am not trying to disrespect you Rox) are the reason these sightings and "sightings" are headlines despite far more pressing issues.

And FisherCat was actually in the most danger in proximity to the seal, as seals = shark dinner.

I am not making fun of your phobia, but it is just that. The last death due to shark attact at the Vineyard was 1938.

If you hear or see anything, stay out of the real deep water, and it would be a good idea to ditch that mermaid suit for a few weeks.....you'll be fine.
