Mind you, this is in the aftermath fo the twin political firestorms that were Gustav and the disclosure of Palin's family's issues.

I looked at a few websites on the issues and fortunately most were focused more on "The New Hurricane Alley" (scray thought, isn't it?) than Palin's pregnant teenager.

Obama said it best in saying family issues especially those involving children are off-limits when it comes to Political Debates. Also despite the media saying it over and over again and contrary to belief, MCCAIN'S PR PEOPLE BROKE THE NEWS TO THE MEDIA. Obama went as far as saying he'd fire anyone working for him if it was discovered one of his employees or volinteers broke the news. We know this was not the case.

I have no idea why McCain's people decided to go public with this information but I can only see it backfiring. Now, if Palin's daughter will be 18 come election day then it would make sense. The fact that Palin gas a child with Down Syndrome is a plus but the disclosure of her daughter's teenage pregnancy--no--the fact that McCain chose her KNOWING THIS INFORMATION--will hurt him alot.

Those of us who remember the Jane Swift administration (she was pregnant when she became the state's first Female lt. Governor and again as Governor--late term both times) know how much of a hinderance her family life had with her obligations to the state. Now that I think of it, what exactly DID she do for Massachusetts?

I seriously believe the fact that MCCain chose Palin knowing this in advance was a bad move and will likely cost him the election. It was a good move choosing a woman (to parallel Obama, who is a minority) but a bad move for the campaign. I can't believe I'm saying this but his bet would've been to go with Mitt Romney as his VP. Romney's got experience and pull (he DID take care of the Big Dig--something his 3 predecessors didn't seem interested in) both in Washington and internationally.

"I have no idea why McCain's people decided to go public with this information but I can only see it backfiring."

You have "no idea...?"

Well let me see if I can clear this one up for you. You see, if they DIDN'T come right out with it, then it WOULD have been a "bombshell" because it would have been revealed eventually anyway and if they weren't the ones to reveal it, the liberal media would have slammed them that much harder for their "secrecy," and questioned, "What else is she hiding?"

Not the most perspicacious fellow, are we?

I don't think anyone could see it that way and it would've made the Republican Ticket look good if the Liberal Media broke the news.

They'd have been able to fire back saying what we already know: What goes on with your personal life--especially family--is no one's business.

I purposely phrased it that way knowing it would be interpreted the way you did. In general, how the news turns out is decided both by who reveals it and how it's received.

Take John Edwards' affair for example...

I live and work in Dorchester, MA. I did two year in the City Year Program in Boston from 2003 to 2005. I went through and successfully completed 12 years in the Boston Public School system (1989-2002). My favorite Teams are the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots (in that order) but I've been warming up to the Bruins lately. I am also an avid writer and like to write short stories. I love the Morning News personalities and think Q or VB should run for Mayor! I currenty work as a Paraprofessional for Boston Public Schools and work with Kindergarten Students. Seeing as my students like to talk about stuff that matters to them, I figure I'd use My Fox Boston to give everyone a little taste of my world.
