More Spygate the day before the Super Bowl.

John Tomase in this morning's Boston Herald is reporting new allegations about a former Patriots employee allegedly videotaping the St Louis Rams walk-through practice in New Orleans the day before Super Bowl 36. The Herald goes on to report , according to a source, that it is not known what the former member of the Patriots video department did with the tape or whether he was instructed to tape the walk-through or if he did it on his own.

As a Patriots fan, I'm sure you just want all this Spygate stuff to go away. It won't though and get used to the fact that it will continue after this game. Should these allegations somehow discredit the three previous Super Bowl wins the Patriots have?

I don't think they should but I think they will. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked on Friday if his investigation of the Patriots Spygate scandal produced any evidence that the three previous Super Bowl wins were accomplished by the Patriots breaking the rules, and he said no.

I'm curious how all of this will affect the Patriots tomorrow and I'm curious how you feel about that? Recent history tells us it won't affect the Pats. This team always seems insulated from all the madness that surrounds them. They also somehow seem to make the distractions work for them in their "us against the world" mentality. However, the pressure has continued to mount all year on this team. Spygate, the quest for perfection, other teams playing their "own Super Bowls" in every game against the Pats.

Now the final game is here and the stage couldn't be any bigger. So how will the Patriots handle this type of pressure? Again, history tells us, they will probably respond by performing well under that pressure. But is it different this time?

Your thoughts.

Butch

Butch,

Would this be Matt Walsh?

Butch,

It is comical to me that Arlen Specter has nothing better to do than stick his sizeable nose into NFL business. Claiming that he is doing it under the "noble" cause of policing the NFL's Antitrust exemption rings hollow to anyone who is a reasoned listener. When the United States is locked in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economy is sliding into recession, and millions of Americans have no healthcare, what are members of the Congress doing inserting themselves into professional sports? This graphically displays what is wrong with these lifelong members of the House and Senate. It is also one prime reason that 2008 is going to be a watershed year in American politics. People are getting tired of these windbags pontificating, and majoring in minors. The Patriots broke the rules, and were punished by the NFL. Perhaps, Senator Spectre ... I mean Senator Specter, we, the American people, should look into why you were asleep at the wheel when American soldiers were dying in the field because they had inappropriate armor? Go back to sleep, you jerk!

Ron Jaworski had it right. Only need the defense signs on 1 or 2 plays a game. Don't have to use signals on every play, save it for a big play. I think there is more to this story based on my conversation with a relative who works in the video department. I think people are seeing pieces of the puzzle and nobody is connecting the pieces to see the big picture. I think the media take the Pat's at their word and doesn't really want to do or can't because of the Pat's success or secrecy.

This is nothing more then pure jealousy on someone’s part to completely discredit something as wonderful as winning another Super Bowl Championship for the Patriots, plain and simple.
With the league screaming for parity amongst the teams here come the Pats and do something so unimaginable that no one could ever believe this to be possible, that they must have cheated. As ridicules as this may seem, unfortunately the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is going to have to give Arlen Specter his 15 minutes of fame and defend his actions by telling Specter what he did was the right thing to do before this whole thing will all go away. What a waste of everyone’s time.

BTW Butch, I said this on Genes blog and I’m going to say it again here to you. I think I saw Arlen Specter in a Christy Mihos commercial, you know the one, with everyone running around with their heads up their A.....LOL

Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool,
than to speak and remove all doubt.

Behind_the_curtain,

Either enlighten us with the 'knowledge' from your 'relative' or go join Matt Walsh in the cryptic department. You can't have both.

How true June.

Hey Curtain,
Are you Matt Walsh?

Anyway, back to the question. I don't think this whole thing will phase the Pats too much. They're pretty good at concentrating on the task at hand. The players did nothing wrong during that first game. It was the coach. And somehow I get the thought, crazy as it might seem, that these so called videos couldn't have been kept under cover for six years. Maybe I'm wearing my rose colored glasses again, I don't know. I still think the whole thing with Senator Spector is a waste of time. The CIA was accused of destroying tapes exposing human torture and he's worried about this? Gimme a break. Go Pats.

Good question, Jonsmom.

This pisses me off. The Pats have been a force to reckon with in the NFL for the past 6-7 years. They've won 3 superbowls and going for #4. We have Mangini open his trap about something he goes to bed every night knowing he does too and all this breaks loose. Fine, the Pats had to face the music and pay their dues, but now we have all these so called informants and witnesses with a bunch of allegations and proofs. Where the hell have they been for the past 6 years? Matt Walsh was fired in 2003, where has he been for the last 4 years? Why didn't any of them step forward before with all their proof? Why let the Pats continue to win championships?? Because they're a bunch of hacks, that's why! Matt Walsh has nothing and is looking to make money from this. Otherwise, show us what you got, Matt Walsh!!!!!!!!!! He got fired for being useless and now has a chip on his shoulder that's bigger than him about it.

JuneInMA hit the nail on the head. Matt Walsh has a big chip on his shoulder re: the Pats and he is looking to make money off of this nonsense. You gotta love how his allegations are bringing all the jealous losers to the surface; Sheldon Brown of the Eagles questioning why the Pats called so many screen passes when they blitzed Brady in the 4th qtr of Super Bowl XXXIX; Hines Ward questioning the AFC championship games in which the Pats beat their asses... Give me a break!!!
It is all going to work in the Pats' favor for this years Super Bowl. We all know how the Pats just love to stick it to all the naysayers. They are stirring up one nasty hornets nest with all this BS.

I think the Arlen Specter thing ultimately helps the Patriots tomorrow. It's the final piece of motivation for the boys. I'd be surprised if the game is close at all.

The news on Super Bowl XXXVI, IF TRUE, is a huge issue. People will blame the Herald. But, they can't ignore a story like that. Butch would have gone with it, too.

Belichick is going to face some tough questions after the season even if there is nothing to it.

Matty,

You are right. IF the story is true, it will be a huge issue and IF the story is true, they should get their punishment just like anyone else would. The problem here is that the one putting all this out (Matt Walsh) is playing games!

Butch, please pass on this message to Matt if you can: Matt, pull your head out from between your legs and either say and show what you got or shut the hell up and go back in that hole you've been in for the past 4 years, you opportunistic little weasel. The Pats took your UNexperienced, UNtrained rear end and saved it from a life of fishing people out of the seaweed in Cape Cod and this is what you do. Put up or shut up!

That was supposed to say INexperienced, not UNexperienced. That's what happens when you type a mile a minute.

Also, Matt (Walsh), please enlighten us with the stories of what Bill Belichik used to do while with the Cleveland Browns since you are insinuating stuff was going on there too. He had a 36-44 record during his tenure with the Browns and his last season ended 5-11. Please, enlighten us with those stories.

Butch, when they start playing the games in the film-room, let me know. True fans no this is BS.This wek I started at 38-16 Pats. With all this as an added incentive,I've upped my prediction to 48-3. Much like the Chargers should have paid off Randy's ex, the Giants should have found a way to stop this hype. These Patriots are like a band of brothers, you attack one, you get them all. That goes double for coach!

Question....how did Walsh get in the final walkthrough? It is a closed and secure practice, monitored carefully by trained security people. It is patently absurd that the Patriots could, or would ever do that.

The Boston Herald just came out for the Giants, and should be boycotted by every Patriots fan.

Who cares whether they Filmed or didn't Film.
This is getting to be like a broken record.
Everyday it's "OH DID YOU HEAR HOW THEY TAPED THIS GAME, AND DID YOU HEAR KRAFT KNEW ALL ALONG" who cares.
Please someone tell me when we are going to be as upset or pissed off, and how many columns in newspapers, on tv, or radio there will be.
When people start complaining about being
FILMED AT THEIR JOBSITES.
Butch,
question >> when they run the security cameras at your work place are they always telling you guys/girls that "THESE CAMERAS ARE HERE TO HELP PROTECT ALL OF YOU" .
God people it's a dam game that's all it is.

I have always called the Herald "The Boston Herald Enquirer". The only reason it's a popular paper is because it's easier to read. The language is dumbed down and it's small. It's also owned by the NY Post or some other rag in NY. They ought to be ashamed of themselves, the whole lot of them.
While I'm pretty schooled about what goes on on the field, I'm not aware of what goes on on the walkthrough. Can someone enlighten me?

The story is that Walsh was at the Patriots walkthrough, which took place before the Rams walkthrough, and just didn't leave. So, if you believe it was taped, then it's clear that Walsh had ALREADY gone through the security checks.

We can't say they wouldn't break the rules because they ALREADY broke the rules once.

I don't think there's much to this, and Specter is clearly suspect in this, but we can't ignore it. The Pats have to win today and then handle the video issue.

Did anyone read the letter that Sen. Arlen Spector wrote the NFL Commisioner Goodell back in Nov? It was all about his team the Philadelphia Eagles. There was no mention about Anti Trust issues until his second letter, If you look at his "second letter" you will notice, it looked like the date on the letter was added as an afterthought. It looks like it was type written in instead of done on a computer like the first one. Perhaps I have watched to many crime shows :) I find it interesting that this all comes out days before the Superbowl. I think the Patriots will rally around their coach once again and show the world what The New England Patriots are made of. The link to the letter is below.

Got an opinion? I'd love to hear it....I've got a few myself and there's a pretty good chance you don't agree with some of them, so let's hear from you.
