Opening day at Fenway…  Here we are again. Wait a minute, weren't we just here a little while ago?  Sure seems like it.  Baseball is back at Fenway.   Is Opening Day special to you or is it just a phony day and the rest of the season matters more?

I can understand how you feel from either side.   I must admit, I love Opening Day but I also can't wait until it's over.  Because when it's over, it's finally time for the baseball season to really start.  You get to go through the rotation a couple times.  Fenway is one of the few places in baseball where the third game of a three game series with Tampa can be just as special as the opening game of a Yankees series.

So let's get it started and let's get Opening Day over with, as special as it will be.

Your thoughts?

Butch

We are excited for this opening day because there is also the ring ceremony attached to it, the Sox have worked so hard and deserve this day.

Opening Day is far more important than the rest of the season which is basically a waste of time anyway. We all know Boston and NY are finishing 1st and 2nd in one or order or the other and both will be in the playoffs. Sorry Baltimore and Tampa but neither one of you will be staying in the top 2 spots (ans if they do I'll volunteer to push VB in a rickshaw all 26.2 miles of next years Marathon). So what's the point of the other 161 games? At least Opening Day is special and last I checked this will be only the second time there's been a ring ceremony in about 90 yrs. Even more special as far as I'm concerned. And I don't know how he's feeling healthwise, but I'd personally like to see Johnny Pesky throw out the first pitch.

Hey Butch,
Opening day is a great way to celebrate the rich baseball history in our city. The Red Sox (as well as Red Sox Nation) get the opportunity to enjoy the beginning of a season whether successful or not. Although I will be slaving away in the hardware store today I will be with celebrating in spirit!
GO SOX!

butch the one practice i wish the red sox and city of boston would stop is allowing fans to camp overnght with the false hope of getting tickets. It is both unsanitary to sleep on those sidewalks plus to me ts an safety issue as well.Remember about an year or two agop there was someone shot outside of mall around xmas time waiting for the stores to open? The red sox should hand ut colored coded bracelets and you have an 2 hour window to go to the boxoffice to get tickets and if you casnt get there tough luck.i say end this stupid and dangerous practice now.

Opening Day for me marks the "offical" end of winter. Opening Day has evolved into a celebration of "Red Sox Nation", but I attended Opening Day in 1975 vs. Milwaukee to see Hank Aaron's first American League game and Tony C's final comeback attempt and walked up that day to get bleacher seats. I still look forward to Opening Day at Fenway, but Larry Luchino and his roaming band of bandits is making it harder to swallow. And while I'm venting, they would have hung Neil Diamond in ephigy in 1975!!!!!!!!!!!

its was great to see billy buckner throw out the first ball. What ticks me off is the media and some idiot fans feel that all is forgiven for buckner when the sox won it all in 2004.Any real fan with an brain and an clue(which is about only half the media and fans in this market)nevere ever blamed buckner for game 6 of the 86 WS.The real culprists were the dumbass manager mcnamoron, fat tub of goo bob stanley, calvin he wetted his pants schiraldi and rich that was an passedball gedman. It never should have gotten to that point.if schiraldi and stanley had done their jobs and gotten one more lousy stinking out this never would have happened. Now that the red sox have won 2 titles can the media finally do us all an favor and burn all audio and video tape of game 6 and give it an damnrest once and for all?I doubt very much that in NYV they still dwell on the 2004 ALCS chokejob.Unlike the braindead fans and dumbass media here in new england the new york fans and media have moved on and its time for us to do the same.

The one thing I dislike the most is how in the middle of the fifth inning the park is almost EMPTY !
I would have loved to take my kids to that game and I know we would have stayed til the last out.
If you are going to leave early don't bother going to the game, let the real fans enjoy it instead.

Got an opinion? I'd love to hear it....I've got a few myself and there's a pretty good chance you don't agree with some of them, so let's hear from you.
