FOX25 has learned that the Patriots are close to a deal with Ty Law that would bring the 34 year-old cornerback back to Foxboro.

According to a source close to the situation, Law is ready to sign in order to play football this upcoming season with either the Patriots or the New York Jets and both teams are talking with him right now.   Also according to the source, Law would prefer to sign with the Patriots and they are working hard towards making that happen as soon as possible.

Law is a five time Pro Bowl cornerback who played the first ten years of his career with the Patriots after being drafted by them out of the University of Michigan with the 23rd overall pick in the 1995 NFL draft.   After earning three Super Bowl rings with the Patriots, Law was released by New England in February 2005 and later signed on with the New York Jets.   Ty played just one season in New York before he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.  After two seasons with in Kansas City he was released by the Chiefs earlier this year.

Law is currently tied with Raymond Clayborn on the Patriots all-time list for interceptions with 36.

When reached for comment on this story on Tuesday night the Patriots said they have no comment.

Your thoughts?

38 year old cornerback
Born: 2/10/1974

So this is a futures contract not to take effect until 2012?

Who looks better with an abacus than me?

Always loved Ty Law. I hated to see him go and would love to have him back if he can contribute to the team. Is he 34 or 38? Those 4 years canmake a big differance.

The Pats should sign Law. What do they have to lose. If he can't make the team, they can cut him. Does anyone think Coach Bill will have a problem doing that? Go for it!

I would be SOOOO HAPPY if they bring our Ty Law back! Maybe that's just the Pats will need this year, and little reunion, and a whole lot of butt kickin!

Last time I used an abacus or calculator, born on 2/10/74 means 34 yrs old in 2008...j/k nixchins. Still like Asante, but loved physicality Tajuan brought to 2ndary with Milloy and/or Harrison. Can't live in the past (re: Sox wooing Clemens), but Ty did score TD#1 of the DYNASTY! Hey Butchie, hope to play touch f/ball w/your ch25 crew next time Pats get Sunday off!
Excerpted from NE PATS bio:
Tajuan Law was born the son of Raymond and Diane Law on Feb. 10, 1974 in Aliquippa, Pa. … He attended Aliquippa (Pa.) High and earned All-American first-team honors by Parade and Tom Lemming’s Prep Football Report … Played tailback, cornerback, safety, wide receiver and return specialist to help lead the team to the Class AA state title as a senior … Averaged 22.1 yards on 23 receptions, 10.1 yards on 45 rushes, 21.1 yards per punt return, recorded 71 tackles and picked off eight passes as a senior … He was a two-time team MVP … Also earned MVP honors in basketball … Ty has a daughter (Tya) and a son (Ty, Jr.).

You can never have too much help in the secondary. I trust Belichick/Pioli. If Ty's going to fit, he will. If not, then they'll do something else. They manage like professionals should; with their heads.

A very good move and I wish this had happened sooner. Any Parcells picks (defensive) should be more than welcome to return.

TaLaw...I take no offense. But this is a nice time to point out that this post originally said "38 year old" Ty Law. Then, either Butch or one of his web geeks changed it without acknowledging the error. Pretty sleazy, but who cares, what's four years between friends?

Nixchins,
get a life will you..... never said 38?...why would I say Ty is 38?....rarely do football players play close to 40 years old?...
Anyway, I love this move if it happens. You just know Ty will find the fountain of youth for at least one year or maybe two in Foxboro.
Hopefully this gets done before the draft.

Butch, your original report on this blog said he was 38 years old.

No need to attack us for pointing out the error.

Doza and Nixchins...
and others if necessary...my apology...If the original post did say 38 years old I never saw it... I was off with my kids most of last week and got this information while I was home...
I posted from home and didn't check back on blog until a couple days later.....
If it was originally written as 38 it had to be a typo? but either way, your right Doza, no need to attack you guys....caught me at a bad moment.....although Nixchins, your always trying to get under my skin....congratulations if that's what you were trying to do...
All's fair in love and Boston sports....
anyway, people around Ty Law have clammed up this weekend...still waiting to hear what's going to happen.....will let you know as soon as I find something out.

Wondering Butch if you saw any games Law played last year for KC? If not then be cool and admit it. Friends of mine who are Chiefs fans say he is slower than Aunt Jemima in deep mud. They say he's lost his desire and is only playing now for the money. That doesn't sound like a db the Patriots could use, does it?

Brute,
I did see a couple of his games from last year and your right. He does look slow. He bulked up a couple of years ago when he went to the Jets. I appreciate the comments from your Chiefs buddies, but honestly, I'm not sure how much he's actually slowed down or if it's just how it looks. I"m not trying to sound like an apologist. Look, Ty Law at 34 is not going to be the same player in 2001 that he was at 26-27 but the real question is, how much does he have left? and can he help the Patriots? If Belichick thinks so, he'll be back with the Pats. Still trying to get updated info.

Ty bad mouthed the Pats on the way out of the door. Take your words back to heart and have fun in New York buddy! No one in New England wants to put you back into such an unfair and unjust situation. Stay gone... Maybe you and Pedro can hook up under the Mango tree.

This was in a 2004 report from ESPN.

In 2004 - Ty Law - said he never wants to be in a Patriots Uniform again, when he was fighting over his last contract. I wonder how many people still remember that and still harbor ill feelings for that?

Got an opinion? I'd love to hear it....I've got a few myself and there's a pretty good chance you don't agree with some of them, so let's hear from you.
