There is a news story today about a baby being killed at a daycare center. The baby was 9-months old and the person held responsible was another child that was 7-years old.
Investigation revealed that the 7-year old had dropped the baby on a carpeted cement floor in the basement that was being used as the center's location. She not only dropped her, but dropped her twice after taking her out of her baby carrier or seat she was in!
The caregiver said she had gone upstairs to change a diaper and heard a noise, then went down to find the baby on a couch bleeding from her ears. She then called 911.
Officials said there would be no arrest of the 7-year old, but that she would be "evaluated" and it would be determined as to who would take custody of her. The report also said the care center would remain open.
Now, here's my question. Why has no responsibility been put on the person who ran this daycare center? Why did she have to go "upstairs" to change a diaper? Shouldn't there have been a changing station located in the same room? Doesn['t it stand to reason that you don't leave an infant alone with other older, but still young children?
That, to me, is not good care or acting responsibly. To my way of thinking this was negligence on the part of the daycare provider. It never would have happened had she been where she should have been. I'm beginning to think childcare workers/owners should be required to take some classes in child psychology. Any adult that is not aware that an older child can quickly and easily hurt a baby has no right taking care of children....and they certainly should not be allowed to have their daycare center stay open after such an incident!
What do you think?

Its about time they banned David Achuleta's father from backstage! It should have been done long ago when he told his son to sing a certain song and it didn't go over well.
It is such a shame when parents blessed with a gifted child take full advantage of it and decide to either control their lives, or live through their child to make up for their own short-comings.
This is so evident in the relationship between David Achuleta and his father. Is it any wonder David can not express himself well? He's probably been so over-whelmed by a controlling parent, that he has no 'voice' of his own. The only thing David seems to believe he has in order to win his father's approval, is his voice; he sings his heart out!
What David will come to learn is that he can stand on his own without "Dad" and the fact he has come so far with the general population serves to make that evident. Right now, if you watch him, he seems truly in awe at the response he gets from an audience and is at a loss for words....sad, really, but is an indication that he has been in a very controlled atmosphere most of his life. Its almost as if his father has never really given him credit that is due and has always demanded more from him. But, that's typical of that type of parent.
David Achuleta is a very sweet person from all appearances and I hope he grows into a stronger personality...and I think his experience in American Idol has gone a long way in helping him to achieve the self-confidence so necessary in a 'world' as stressful as the entertainment industry.
He just needs to break free from "Dad".
(This is, of course, cannot be stated as either fact, or otherwise, but is simply my personal opinion from my own limited observation.)

More and more it is becoming apparent that how we vote for a candidate is changing.
Obama just took Mississippi where it seems most people voted according to his race. He won 90% of the votes and the vast majority came from black voters. What does that say? Were they voting on Obama's platform or the fact he's dark-skinned?
Is it more important to the black community to have a person of color in the WH than a person that can do a good job?
I'm not saying he could or couldn't do any better than Hillary or McCain, but this has shown how much this race is connected to race and religion. We already threw out our Governor from the race because of his religion!
Why can't people see that we could end up with a leader that is not qualified when we allow predjudices and descrimination to alter our judgment? These kind of voters would be the first to complain if things got worse than they already are.
It has beome more like the gameshow "Who Do You Trust?" rather than who can do the job. Blacks only trust blacks; Catholics and Protestants only trust those of their own religion.
Are blacks interpreting Obama's platform of "Change" to mean something other than what others take it to mean? If the vote in Mississippi is any indication, the answer seems to be 'yes'.
As for me, I would have no trouble voting for a black person, or someone with a religion different from what I am familiar with (as long as it wasn't radical) as long as he met my personal criteria as to what makes a good President. Race and religion is not on the top of my list, but it is looking like this race has put these things on top for many people in this Country. Where is the logic in that?
I think Romney and Huckabee were very good candidates, yet they got run over by two candidates that stood for something more that seems to be priorities in people's minds. Maybe they weren't ruthless enough. Maybe they weren't arrogant enough. Maybe they weren't slick orators. Maybe they were too honest?
I'm disappointed that it has come to this.
Give me your feedback; am I right or wrong?

It's pretty disappointing when you put your trust in someone and they end up betraying it. Spitzer not only betrayed the public, but his family as well.
This is a man that was elected on his campaign to fight corruption and waste, yet he found no trouble in getting personally involved with prostitution or wasting money on it.
How stupid do you have to be to gamble your job, your family, your reputation on something like that when you are a public personality? Did he forget who he was? Did he forget his personal life will be scrutinized to he 'nth' degree if he ever wanted to go higher in politics? Did he forget he could do jail time for the very corruption he was elected to clean up?
On top of everything did he really think giving illegal immigrants benefits was going to help his career?
Somehow, this man seems to have been on a course of self-destruction if his actions are any indication.
I am also curious as to whether his wife will forgive him, as Hillary did her for her husband. From the images in the newscast, she looked like it was agony for her to have to stand beside him.
What do you think of all this? Will NY forgive him? Would you?

I know I'm going to get flak from this post, but it's mine and I'm going to say what I think.
What is it with people that feel the need to put up signs in public to express their personal opinions?
Ride down the highways and by-ways and guaranteed you'll see some kind of 'memorial' to some kind of issue; they'll be crosses and flowers planted into the ground at the location where someone was killed in an accident. There'll be yellow ribbons hanging from trees. There'll be graffiti sprayed on buildings and bridge overpasses. There'll be political signs stuck in someone's yard. They'll be balloons attached to trees along with direction arrows leading the way for a quarter mile. When you come off an exit ramp, they'll be organizations and club symbols lined up so that you can't miss them. There will also be yellow ribbon stickers on just about everyone's car. We are turning into a nation addicted to symbolism and signs!
Where did this all start? It didn't use to be this way. What does this all accomplish? Isn't it better to put our efforts into sending cards and gifts to soldiers? I'm pretty sure everyone State-side KNOWS we support our troops when they are at war. You don't have to tell me that with your sticker or your homemade flag. So what is it?
It almost seems to me that its a self-serving act. A "Look at me! I support the troops and here's my proof! Aren't I wonderful?"
And, the crosses along the roads. I don't need to be reminded daily of someone's loss....but, THEY need to remind me, because they somehow can not accept it or get past it...and we will have to bear that cross along with them. We all lose loved ones eventually, myself included, but are we suppose to make our feelings of loss a permanent reminder by sticking up signs on the sides of the road? We have cemeteries for a place to memorialize someone.
What about yardsale signs and political signs in practically every house's front yard these days? Half of them never get taken down or retrieved from the trees and telephone poles, and turn into nothing more than an eyesore after a while.
I've never bought a 'yellow ribbon' sticker. Why? Because the only one who was really benefitting from it was the people who sold them. I'm not going to pay Shop-Smart or ABC Printing Co., to let everyone else know I support our military. I'm an American patriot, and that should be a 'given' if you live in the U.S. of A., right? People will use anything...death, war...anything to make money. They aren't getting mine!
Look at the site of the WTC! They are now having to raise money to build a memorial to accommodate people's loss so the flowers, pictures, etc., don't over-flow into the roads. (But, little do they know...they'll be leaving those things at the 'new' memorial site, too.)
Also, let's not forget graduation sheet signs! We have to advertise our child made it through H.S., right?
Where's this all going to end? Or is our landscape going to end up looking like a city dump with ripped plastics, torn papers, broken signs, faded flowers, dirty objects all littering the grounds, buildings, and bridges?
The only thing I want to see flying in the breeze is the American Flag!...and we sure have an abundance of those, too. I have come to find out that because of strict sign laws in my hometown, many flags are flying for a dual-purpose...mostly to attract attention to a business establishment. I counted fifteen in a one mile distance one day, riding down a main road. Some were on public property, some on private, but almost always at business sites. (I do get annoyed when I see flags faded, ripped or improperly hung. Or left out in the rain hanging limp and 'lifeless'. And, I believe if you are going to leave a flag up during the night, it is suppose to be high-lighted with a floodlight, otherwise you are suppose to take it down at dusk.
Maybe I should put a sign up to let everyone know how I feel?

Gaza's militant Hamas has been continually launching rockets into Israeli border regions, and it appears it is to disrupt any kind of peace between Palistine and Israel. There have been efforts by the U.S. to bring the two to the table and try to negotiate some kind of agreements, but Hamas' two top officials, Ahmad Youssef, and Mushir al-Masri continually block the efforts by continuing the attacks on Israel in spite of Palestine's President Abbas requesting a cease-fire in order to have the peace talks take place. Abbas, it is clear, has very little control over Hamas and has just about none in Gaza.
Things came to a halt when Israel recently decided to take strong military action against the constant barrage of rockets. The response to this by Hamas is to blame Israel. Many Gazan citizens have been killed as a result of Israeli forces targeting Hama's strongholds...which are in the middle of populated areas. Inotherwords, Hamas uses its people as shields. This tactic is useful when non-militant people die and they can make Israel look like monsters...but, we aren't suppose to talk about all the people they've killed with their rocket fire.
Now, the U.S. has gone to Egyptian officials requesting they pressure Hamas to cease fire and allow the talks to continue.
The response? Hamas won't co-operated unless they have half control of the borders between Egypt and Palestine, which they haven't had for a long time. Right now, the border is closed and Gaza is hurting because of it. Officials in Israel believe this is because Hamas uses that border to bring in their miltary supplies and if they have control, there will be no end to the attacks on Israel.
Now, here's the sad part; in order to get the Saudis to help in the peace process, we had to pay them! What the...? Aren't they suppose to be our allies? What a farce! Is there any Country that will stand behind us without being bribed? All we ever do is dole out billions of dollars to these snakes-in-the-grass and we get absolutely nowhere...except maybe poorer.
On top of everything, we've spent trillions in Iraq, not to mention lives, in order to bring some kind of peace and democracy to them, and now they're in bed with Iran? In spite of everything Iran is doing...which is supplying terrorists with weapons...Iraq is still trading with them! President Amajahdeen (sp?) has pulled a quicky by going to Iraq to try to solidify their "brotherhood", as he called it. Hah! I think its time to re-think what the heck we are doing!
In addition, we've had to warn American's living/working in Beirut, Lebanon today because U.S. officials fear there is a plot by rebel militants to attack the U.S. Embassy there, and any American citizens.
And the list goes on.....
So, my question is, do we really have any allies? And, why aren't these countries paying us for the protection we give them?!
