There is a news story today about a baby being killed at a daycare center.  The baby was 9-months old and the person held responsible was another child that was 7-years old.

Investigation revealed that the 7-year old had dropped the baby on a carpeted cement floor in the basement that was being used as the center's location.  She not only dropped her, but dropped her twice after taking her out of her baby carrier or seat she was in!

The caregiver said she had gone upstairs to change a diaper and heard a noise, then went down to find the baby on a couch bleeding from her ears.  She then called 911.

Officials said there would be no arrest of the 7-year old, but that she would be "evaluated" and it would be determined as to who would take custody of her.  The report also said the care center would remain open.

Now, here's my question.  Why has no responsibility been put on the person who ran this daycare center?  Why did she have to go "upstairs" to change a diaper?  Shouldn't there have been a changing station located in the same room?  Doesn['t it stand to reason that you don't leave an infant alone with other older, but still young children?

That, to me, is not good care or acting responsibly.  To my way of thinking this was negligence on the part of the daycare provider.  It never would have happened had she been where she should have been.  I'm beginning to think childcare workers/owners should be required to take some classes in child psychology.  Any adult that is not aware that an older child can quickly and easily hurt a baby has no right taking care of children....and they certainly should not be allowed to have their daycare center stay open after such an incident!

What do you think?

It's pretty disappointing when you put your trust in someone and they end up betraying it.  Spitzer not only betrayed the public, but his family as well.

This is a man that was elected on his campaign to fight corruption and waste, yet he found no trouble in getting personally involved with prostitution or wasting money on it.

How stupid do you have to be to gamble your job, your family, your reputation on something like that when you are a public personality?  Did he forget who he was?  Did he forget his personal life will be scrutinized to he 'nth' degree if he ever wanted to go higher in politics?  Did he forget he could do jail time for the very corruption he was elected to clean up?

On top of everything did he really think giving illegal immigrants benefits was going to help his career?

Somehow, this man seems to have been on a course of self-destruction if his actions are any indication.

I am also curious as to whether his wife will forgive him, as Hillary did her for her husband.  From the images in the newscast, she looked like it was agony for her to have to stand beside him.

What do you think of all this?  Will NY forgive him? Would you?

I know I'm going to get flak from this post, but it's mine and I'm going to say what I think.

What is it with people that feel the need to put up signs in public to express their personal opinions?

Ride down the highways and by-ways and guaranteed you'll see some kind of 'memorial' to some kind of issue; they'll be crosses and flowers planted into the ground at the location where someone was killed in an accident.  There'll be yellow ribbons hanging from trees.  There'll be graffiti sprayed on buildings and bridge overpasses.  There'll be political signs stuck in someone's yard.  They'll be balloons attached to trees along with direction arrows leading the way for a quarter mile.  When you come off an exit ramp, they'll be organizations and club symbols lined up so that you can't miss them.  There will also be yellow ribbon stickers on just about everyone's car.  We are turning into a nation addicted to symbolism and signs!

Where did this all start?  It didn't use to be this way. What does this all accomplish?  Isn't it better to put our efforts into sending cards and gifts to soldiers?  I'm pretty sure everyone State-side KNOWS we support our troops when they are at war.  You don't have to tell me that with your sticker or your homemade flag.  So what is it?

It almost seems to me that its a self-serving act.  A "Look at me!  I support the troops and here's my proof!  Aren't I wonderful?"

And, the crosses along the roads.  I don't need to be reminded daily of someone's loss....but, THEY need to remind me, because they somehow can not accept it or get past it...and we will have to bear that cross along with them.  We all lose loved ones eventually, myself included, but are we suppose to make our feelings of loss a permanent reminder by sticking up signs on the sides of the road?  We have cemeteries for a place to memorialize someone.

What about yardsale signs and political signs in practically every house's front yard these days?  Half of them never get taken down or retrieved from the trees and telephone poles, and turn into nothing more than an eyesore after a while.

I've never bought a 'yellow ribbon' sticker.  Why?  Because the only one who was really benefitting from it was the people who sold them.  I'm not going to pay Shop-Smart or ABC Printing Co., to let everyone else know I support our military.  I'm an American patriot, and that should be a 'given' if you live in the U.S. of A., right?  People will use anything...death, war...anything to make money.  They aren't getting mine!

Look at the site of the WTC!  They are now having to raise money to build a memorial to accommodate people's loss so the flowers, pictures, etc., don't over-flow into the roads.  (But, little do they know...they'll be leaving those things at the 'new' memorial site, too.)

Also, let's not forget graduation sheet signs!  We have to advertise our child made it through H.S., right?

Where's this all going to end?  Or is our landscape going to end up looking like a city dump with ripped plastics, torn papers, broken signs, faded flowers, dirty objects all littering the grounds, buildings, and bridges?

The only thing I want to see flying in the breeze is the American Flag!...and we sure have an abundance of those, too.  I have come to find out that because of strict sign laws in my hometown, many flags are flying for a dual-purpose...mostly to attract attention to a business establishment.  I counted fifteen in a one mile distance one day, riding down a main road.  Some were on public property, some on private, but almost always at business sites.  (I do get annoyed when I see flags faded, ripped or improperly hung.  Or left out in the rain hanging limp and 'lifeless'.  And, I believe if you are going to leave a flag up during the night, it is suppose to be high-lighted with a floodlight, otherwise you are suppose to take it down at dusk.

Maybe I should put a sign up to let everyone know how I feel?

In the midst of plans for President Bush to have talks with the Arab nation, maybe not so co-incidentally, three of our U.S. ships in the Persian Gulf recieved threats and intimidation by four Revolutionary Guard boats demanding indentification of our ships...in spite of the fact our ships had given I.D. and been given passage twice before during the day.

At the same time, at least one of the ships picked up audio threatening that the U.S. ships "would blow up".  Where this message was being transmitted from, could not be identified and connected to the boats surrounding the U.S. fleet.

There were also boxes dumped from the RG boats, but nothing has been said as to whether they were retrieved from the water or whether they sank.  No word as to what was in those boxes.  They could very well have been hoaxes and part of the audio threat  to provoke us into firing on the Iranian boats as they made a swift getaway.

We also don't know if those boats had authorization by the Iranian government to do what they did, or whether they acted on their own.  Still, Iranian officials are supporting them by denying any attempt to provoke or attack the U.S. ships, saying they were authorized to perform their duties to ask for identification and there was nothing provocational about their actions.

The U.S. sees it as quite the opposite when they were surrounded, had audio threats, and boxes were released overboard from the RG boats.  The hasty exit after the box drops also seemed to be unusual actions...almost like they were hoping the U.S. ships would impulsively fire upon them initiating a war.  Luckily, the ships' commanders did not act immediately before finding out if there was an actual attack taking place.

What will our next step be?  Will we just dismiss this?  If so, how many times are we to be provoked and intimidated by Iran?

Still, iff we can continue to let them know we will be very patient and not be tricked into attacking first, maybe they'll get the message that we aren't going to be the ones to start a war so they can 'play poor innocent me'.

Another attempt, another failure by Iran.

What do you think about the recent escape by a Siberian tiger at the S.F. Zoo that killed one boy and severly injured two brothers?

The question has arisen as to whether the tiger was "taunted" by the young men, since there was a shoe and blood found between the locked gate and the moat. That could only mean one of them must have been attacked even before the tiger was outside the enclosure.  Tigers, unlike domestic cats, don't mind swimming in water and they are able to leap great distances.

It is also suggested by zoo officials that a board could have been used to allow the tiger an exit.  But, that doesn't make sense if there is no board to be found.

My only thought is that a boy could have dangled above the tiger, the tiger was able to unexpectedly grab hold of him, his buddies tried to pull him to safety, and the tiger ended up being pulled up over the fence with him.  If two strong men were pulling and the tiger used the fence for footing, I believe this could very easily happen.  Still, no one has suggested this possibility.

It could have been a 'dare' or to show off, or taunt the tiger, we don't know, but details should be forth-coming if the survivors choose to talk about what actually happened.

What do you think about all this?  Do you think the Zoo should face another fine, since the same tiger attacked a zoo worker a year ago?  Or are they not responsible in this case?

Its possible they need to have better means of keeping the public out of animals dens because in spite of their over $200,000 dollar upgrade to pen in the tigers, it didn't help!

What is going on in society?  Who are these people that want to control every aspect of our lives?!

Last night I was invited by my grandson to go to his school to see him in a play that was being put on by the Middle School children.  I thought, that would be fun and said I'd be there.

I can't tell you how many school plays I've gone to over the years, including when I was a student growing up.  They're always fun and always the same routine.

The parents start arriving and kids are all excited.  Parents greet each other, wave to each other, and talk about their children.  There's usually an introduction by whomever is the director of the show, lots of clapping, the lights go down and the show begins.  Now usually, there is an intermission to use the restroom or get a snack that is being served out in the hall, and afterwards we all take our seats and enjoy the second half of the program. A good time is had by all, and everyone goes home.  It never changes.

Well, last night it changed.  While sitting in my seat and watching the usual hustle and bustle of familes looking for seats and children running around full of importance, I felt I knew exactly how the evening would go.  I was wrong about that.  When things finally settled down and the director stood before the crowd to give a talk on what would be presented, I kind of wondered why they didn't have programs this year.  I justified it in my own mind by acknowledging that it didn't cost anything to see the play and that was why.  Anyway, we were told they would be doing four skits, two during the first half and two after intermission.  That's when everything changed; we were told there would be no refreshments.

NO REFRESHMENTS!  What??  Why not?  They've always had refreshments during a plays intermission.  Its how they make money for trips and projects or whatever.  Was I hearing right?  (I think I heard a gasp from the audience.) We were told there was a water fountain out in the hall if we wanted a drink of water.

So, what was the reason for this?  What were we suppose to do for 15 mins?  The reason was...and get this!....because "We are told we can't serve food because some people have allergies and so on.". He then quickly went on to something else.

Do you know I had all I could do to remain in my seat and not say a word.  I wanted to stand up and yell at him, "WHAT? ARE YOU PEOPLE CRAZY?!"  (I think I could have started a riot right then and there.)  They can't serve food because some people have allergies???  Give me a break!  How in the heck did we get this far when we've been taking refreshment at plays for all these years?!  Why aren't we all dead?!  That was just about the lamest excuse I've ever heard of.

Its getting out of hand with these people that are afraid we can't handle our own lives!  Don't they give us any credit to know not to let our children have something that may have an ingredient that will cause them to have a reaction?  Don't we have mouths to ask if we are unsure?  Will the 'nth' percentage of the population to food allergies take priority? They can't fool me...its those darn junk food idiots getting into our lives again! (Maybe they're all fat people. "If I have to go on a diet then the rest of the world is comin' with me!")

Where is this absurdity going to end up?  Maybe with, "Put down the peanut butter and come out with your hands up!"?

We've gone nuts!...and I don't mean peanuts!
