I have been watching a scandal brew for some time now in the community to my west.  I work in that community.  It is alleged an employee of the public school system had recently been fired for inappropriate sexual behavior with a male student.  If what has "bled out" of this brewing scandal is valid, this individual was working directly with students in the special education department.  The student, who was not a special ed student, who he "befriended" was receiving sexually oriented emails from this staff person.  The emloyee was fired and warned by the parent about further contact with his son.  It is my understanding that this man then purchased a cell phone for the boy, and was involved in sending sexually oriented explicit text messages to the youth.

Now, the cynical amounst us might say, this is despicable but certainly not at the level of being a scandal.  Inapproriate activity caught by a school district and dealt with approriately.  Inappropriate activity caught by a parent and dealt with appropriately.  Here's where the problem lies.

This man has been doing this for nearly twenty years in a small community that has known about it in the past.  He was the talk of students who are now parents.  I direct you to a letter to the editor of the local paper....and I urge you to read it in its entirety.  This letter is simply one of the most courageous acts I have witnessed in my life.

&SubSectionID=9&ArticleID=31218&TM=22339.16

Then I ask....why isn't this a big deal in this town?  Then I ask....why did a school district hire this man when it should have been aware of the fact that he had to leave another municipal position under a cloud of suspicion?  Then I ask...why did this victim allegedly have to work so hard for his letter to even be printed?  Then I look back at the interscholastic sports event I attended last year, and remember seeing him there in an official capacity....and I ask myself...why didn't I call the Superintendant...I know him....

And then I ask...Is there  journalist out there whose mother works in this school?  But I keep going back to the question...why didn't I call?.....

Chip ...

The scary thing is that I'm willing to bet this is not the only town this is happening in. Look at how many years it took for the stories with the Priests to finally see the light of day.
Seems as if , even if you did call that somehow this would get burried as well, until that one brave reporter picks up the story and runs with it. Hello to Mike Beaudet .....this seems like a story he could do.

That was a fantastic article that you posted. It comes from the heart, and it speaks the truth about how your prosepective changes throughout your adult life.

Chip - don't beat yourself up about not calling. It's not you that's to blame at all, it's this creep who tried to make himself "cool" to teens by supplying them with drugs and alcohol. You are doing what you can now, getting the word out. Hopefully something becomes of this and this is investigated.

Chip...

Candice is right...it is not up to you to call, but hopefully this will get out and the monster will be stopped. The more I think about it this would also be a good story for AMW. Someone needs to expose this perv.

Has he ever been arrested for any crime ????

I'm still wondering...I was hoping that one of the Fox25 folks would come along here...but we never make it to the community pages anymore so I doubt they dig this far.

And Chrissy, it is each of our responsibilities to repoirt this activity...I appreciate yo trying to make me feel better, but I know right from wrong...Who better to hold accountable for my behavior then myself?

No, the reference to Kelly and the "Red Box" at the end refer to a foster child of his (yep...you heard it right) who brought the "stash" he allegedly kept in a locked red box under the drivers seat of his vehicle to school. When he was caught, he said it ws "his foster father's" The police believed the "foster father" and Kely was arrested and sent off to lock up....

Deeper and deeper this goes...

Chip, you don't need to make it to the community page. E-mail the story to Mike Beaudet. On one of the blogs he did on insurance, he gives his e-mail address at the station. Can't remember it offhand, but if I remember it, I'll let you know. This story is far too important to stake on making it to the front page.

Candace is right. You can't beat yourself up for not calling. From what I read here, you will do much more good in this case by tipping off Mike Beaudet and maybe a few other stations' investigative crews.

After a little digging, Chip, I found Mike Beaudet's e-mail address. It is: mike.beaudet@foxtv.com

Hope it helps!

Xantun, thank you. I sent it to Fox25. You have no iudea how much it touches me that you guys would let me off the hook. I am a "bull in the china shop" here and it is frequently about personal responsibility. I want you guys to know I hold myself to the same standards.

Your right Chip... I think what I was trying to get accross was pretty much what Xan got to...open up the story so it gets out there.

And if Mike doesn't grab this story find one of the other stations that might, or newpapers for that matter. There are too many pervs out there taking advantage of innocent kids, and they really do need to be stopped.

Chip, it's not that we're "letting you off the hook", or at least I'm not. My take on this is that calling the superintendent doesn't seem like it would do much. I got the feeling that the people in charge in regards to this already had a pretty good idea about this guy, and one more complaint would be added to the pool. You've shown personal responsibility by trying to bring this to the attention of investigative reporting teams, which is not only going to fill the pool of complaints, it's going to overflow it to the point that a full accounting of how this has been handled from the start will have to be done. Just charging in isn't always the best way to be personally responsible. Sometimes, and this reads to me like one of them, you need to use your head in order to show personal responsibility AND at the same time, get something accomplished. This, my friend, is one of those times.

Chip,

What bothers me most about this is, if this guy has been doing this for 20 years why hasn’t anyone come out against him? It doesn’t seem right to me that after all these years no one has outed him and said anything, especially if there was any type of sexual abuse going on. If there was any type of sexual abuse going on from the first time it happened, and was never reported and these same people grew up had kids and still live in this town and new about this and allowed this same sort of thing to happened to their kids, then that is one sick town. What proof is there that he bought a cell phone for this boy? That should be easy information to get and possibly trace any text messages.

I not knowing all the facts of this story and local town politics and just taking the information you’ve provided is what I’m basing my opinion on. Chip, I live in a small town and I know this would never be tolerated in my town.

jovanone,

Did you read the link I provided? He has been outed this week in the most dramatic letter I've ever read in a small town paper. He has lost two municipal jobs because of it (MY main concern is how he got hired for the second).

I am not a person to write stuff of this nature on rumor. I spoke to one of his victims in a professional capacity on Wednesday. It is one of the motivations for having written this.

AND, jpvanne, professionals who deal with pedophiles will tell you that the research shows that a pedohile will have an average of 200 victims. That doesn't happen in a day or a year.

Here's the bad news, this HAS probably gone on in YOUR small town....

Chip,

I did read the letter. One person finally had the courage to come forward and write a letter about what this man did. Maybe now that this one person who has now come forward will get more of this creeps victims to come out and testify against him. How was it that this creep was able to fly under the radar for so long?

If the people who hired him knowing about his past and chose to disregarded it, then they should have been fired for allowing this to continue. Has he ever been charged and convicted of any sexual abuse?

What I find so astonishing is that these pedophiles have more than 200 victims. Are any of his other victims going to come forward and press charges against him? You would think that a creep like this who has violated so many kids for so long surely more than one person would come out and testify against him, don’t you?

I hate to think that I wouldn’t have heard of something like that going on in my own town. People like to gossip, and I think if this was going on in my town, someone would have to say something about it.

Chip - again, I just want to tell you that this is the best thing that you can do. The fact that this is now getting out, that you emailed the story - you have done your part. Things like this don't have a time frame of when creeps like him should be brought to justice. It should have happened a LONG time ago, before you were even involved - but, what's done is done & we just have to make sure that he is held accountable for the crimes against these children. You can't go back and change the past - but by breaking this & hopefully getting some resolve for the victims, you can certainly make sure that future children do not undergo this abuse & perhaps get some resolve for his past victims.

It is very difficult for a boy to come forward and say...I had gay sex with (blank), whether it was consensual or not...

And at 16, would YOU have turned in the guy who bought you your beer?

Chip,

It’s an extremely difficult thing to do, not only for him, but for anyone who has been molested. But, in order for the healing process to begin you have to come out and tell the truth about what, why and how it all started. This young boy has to be told and made to understand that he’s a victim and he didn’t do anything wrong. The person who touched him is the one who did something wrong not him. This young man needs to be told how much he’s loved and cared about by his family and showered with affection , then they all need to get into counseling, the sooner the better. Only then will the healing process begin.

Hopefully with this young man coming forward it will trigger a domino effect and more and more people will come out against this MONSTER.
