News that Illegal immigrant Andre Martins was shot and killed by a Cape Cod Police Officer has drawn outrage from the Brazilian community and other advocates for illegals. While tragic, the fact remains that if you fail to stop for a police officer and then try to run him down with you vehicle you will most likely be shot.  This is not about discrimination against immigrants, it is an example of someone who broke the law on many levels and suffered the consequences for his actions.  When you break the law you deserve punishment and if you attempt to kill a police officer you will suffer a harsh and justified penalty.

While I agree with you in principle, I cannot help but question what really happened here.
The police could easily figure that most of us would just shrug our shoulders because he was an illegal immigrant...without questioning the facts of what happened.
I'm hugely against illegal immigration, but I just felt so badly for this guy's pretty wife and child. Like she said, he was a father. My heart absolutely aches for that little kid.
Having said all of this, if the facts are indeed accurate, then I'm afraid the guy had it coming. For me it's only a question of whether or not the reported facts are the truth; that's all.
Yeah, I'm sure that Deval Patrick will raise some kind of tax to pay for his funeral, nomorehacks.

Who cares if he was a illegal immigrant or not. What if he was green with pink spots. Does not matter, if the blue lights are on behind you then you STOP!

Why didn't the girlfriend and the mother of his children tell us on T.V. that he did not stop if she was in the car. I'm not saying what the cops did was right as we ALL don't know the true story, but facts are he did not stop when the cops put thier blus lights on, as it is the law to STOP.

Cops, do get caught up in an adrenilin rush,as witnessed in beatings, or extra rough
man- handeling them into cuffs.
They will bounce his head off the door jamb "accidently", when puting him into the cruiser. They feel they need to punish the offender for not following orders. (How dare you dis-obey ME !)
Shooting should only be used if the car is actually heading at a cop, that is out of the cruiser. There is'nt a full picture of the actual events that took place in this case. When it is all said and done, the cops probably did'nt have to shoot him. Hell in some states high speed chases are illegal, and the cops must stop the chase if the speeds get to high. Innocent people ,by standers have been killed due to high speed chases. If it turns out that this guy was just ramming his car into a cruiser then ,it was excessive force.
One other note, It's not like this state is know for deporting illegals,if anything it's a santuary state. You would think the illegals would know this, as they flock here to work !

First and foremost, if he were not in the United States illegally, this incident would NOT have happened on the Cape. ICE should round up the rest of his family and friends who may be here illegally and have them all deported for their own protection.

I have no sympathy for law breakers who push the envelope and meet face to face with police using deadly force. I am very happy that the police officer is the one who is still alive. He did his job and has my full support.

This guy supposedly came here in 2005 on a visa
his visa expired, did he go home??
NO WAY WHY DO SOMETHING THAT IS LEGAL,
I'LL JUST STAY HERE AMONGST MY OTHER ILLEGAL ALIENS AND NOONE WILL BE THE WISER.
What i'm not supposed to beat my girlfriend if she doesn't do what I say, why?
OH THAT'S ILLEGAL, BUT IT'S OKAY BECAUSE I'M ILLEGAL TO.
What my girlfriend has taken out a restraining order on me, why?
BECAUSE SHE SAYS I BEAT HER, AND THAT'S ILLEGAL
BUT IT'S OKAY CAUSE SO AM I.
This case reaks, but not because this guy got shot, but because he was still allowed to be in this country ILLEGALLY, THAT'S WHY IT REAKS.
His girlfriend takes out the restraing order, for her own safety, now because he was shot, SHE IS SAYING "MY BOYFRIEND DID NOTHING WRONG HE WAS A VICTIM"

YEAH RIGHT

I have not decided which way I lean on this.
Until I do, let me speak for the person who is not able to do so.

From what I can see, this was a 90 second chase. It takes the average citizen longer than this to realize the police are trying to pull them over.

The LA police deal with this all the time. Chases which go for hours without a bullet being fired.

I would like to why he was being pulled over. I have a few Boston Cop friends who get pulled over in small towns all the time. They tell me it is because of their color. City cops have enough to do. Some small time cops pull everyone over in hope that it leads to court time.

I believe the victim had no gun and his girlfriend in the car.

Someone asked if we are paying for the funeral?
O yea and tack on a few million on top of that.

Also, I don't believe the deceased was trying to run the officer down. What the DA was doing is positioning himself for a plea. Now this is out there and trying to get an unbias jury is next to impossible.

The EliteOne,
It wasn't whether or not he had a gun,
see what you "city folk" don't understand about
the Police down here on the cape, it doesn't matter what time of the year it is, whether it's Memorial Day or dead winter, these Police are out there on a nightly basis patroling these streets, watching for people driving
the wrong way, or speeding, weaving, whatever
they see all, it's not like there is alot going on down here late at night.
Don't get me wrong it's not like Mayberry,
however they get bored, so they keep their eyes open for driving infractions,
This was a driving infraction, this guy didn't stop, because he didn't have a licence.
He figured he could get away from the police,
but he lost, the BLUE LIGHTS COME ON YOU PULL OVER AND STOP, END OF STORY NO QUESTIONS,
THIS GUY DIDN'T DO THAT HE INSTEAD FIGURED HE TRY AND OUTRUN AND LOST

Hello legendkiller:

Yes, the police look for speeders in the city as well. Before they start discharging a firearm, the police in the city let the speeder go. They have enough confidence they will catch them later. Take the license plate number, run it thru the registry and go the house.
Again, from what I saw...we are talking a 90 second pursuit. I don't see the rationale in firing a weapon at someone in a car. A car which had people in it, and who could have been hit.
This is not the wild west.
The hand gun is a big issue. This cop will quietly fad off the force.

People drive illegally all time without a license. Should we shoot them as well?

EliteOne,
This officer in question, was lauded as a hero a few months back down here, for running into a burning building trying to save a woman,
who did perish, however he did what he was trained to do.
This man was already known (according to the DA) to the police down here, it wasn't like he was coming home from church.
In the heat of the moment the only one's who know what happened are the officer, and the people in the car.
The biggest question one must ask themselves is this, Why didn't he just PULL OVER?
I'm sure the officer thought his life was
in danger, down here on the cape, the police don't just show up to work at night thinking
HOPEFULLY TONIGHT I GET TO USE MY GUN.

Hi Legend:

Again, I am just making points and not comitting one away or the othere.

But, you are helping me make my point of going to the deceased home later. You stated the man was known down there to the police.

I appauld the officer for going into the building. But this is not going to help him on when to use his firearm.

I am not attacking the officer. I never suggested police are looking to use their gun. I suggested that their approach is different from city cops, who deal with this all day. And just some, not all.

Where was he coming home from?

In summary...even is this is a good shoot, without the deceased having a gun, this is going to cost the town and state a few bucks.

You are right about only them knowing. But the facts are, one person is dead for not stopping 90 seconds after some cop put his rack lights on.

EliteOne,
the way the story is going now is that
the guy was in the car, smoking POT, because when it was all said and done he still had the joint sticking out of his mouth, anyway, he was driving around Yarmouth, argueing with his girlfriend, who by the way still had a restraining order out on him, anyway they were argueing he was speeding and driving eratically, the cop see's him tries to pull him over, he won't stop a chase started he supposedly spins his car around to drive at the cop, the cop feels threatened and shoots.

EliteOne,
If they did that down here, all the business's would be out of business then all you tourists would go to New Hampshire or someplace else,
They don't care until there is a big outcry over something, then all the sudden they GRAB THE REINS AND SEND THE HORSE TO THE BARN

I feel sorry for the child but not the mother. You STOP when the blues are on,but he ran. Then the man for what ever reason turns his car around as if to drive at the officer. Sorry but he got what he was looking for when he turned that car around, and didn't stop!

1sckmnd,
It's true the mother is as much to blame as the boyfriend was, she had the restraining order out, but still hung out with him.
She could have told him to stop the car but
didn't, now she is just blaming everyone but
herself.
