Did you know... today, November 7, 2007 is 'cross-quarter day'- so what's that you might be wondering.  Well if you check your calendar... it's exactly halfway between the fall equinox (9/23/07) and the winter solstice (12/22/07).  Huh... who knew.  Guess that means we're that much closer to winter.  Tell that to the people in Buffalo, NY where they picked up close to a foot of lake-effect snow yesterday... and it's still snowing there today.   Signs of winter here too... lots of 20s this morning and frost- even a little black ice leftover from yesterday's rain.  Oh, and while we were getting rain here yesterday, they picked up 10.7" of snow on top Mt. Washington.

In ancient times... cross-quarter days had a bit more significance.  They would actually begin the season on these days instead of having it be the midpoint of a season.   All I know is personally, I'm that much closer to having my baby.  About 4 and 1/2 more weeks to go... winter can't come soon enough for my this year!

-Cindy

I can't wait for the ski season to start.

Cindy, can you make it snow real heavy in Killington, VT this winter?

Congrats on the soon coming new born!
One more person to help shovel you out.

Hi Cindy!

Okay, I have to admit my education on weather is very limited...we just never covered that much in school. I do know what a 'high' and 'low' is. I know what a 'front' means.
Pressure? Yup! Got that down.

But, you've lost me on "cross-quarter day"...I have *no* idea what you are talking about. Of course, that's only because I don't really know much about 'equinox' or 'solstice'...heck, I can hardly *say* 'solstice' without my tongue getting tied into a knot...who made up that word, anyway?! They couldn't name it the 'winter sona' or something easy to say?

Anyway...best wishes on your soon-to-arrive little one! Watch your footing on those icy patches! (Jeez, now I sound like the Muppet Movie! haha!)
