We've talked so much about what a wet summer it has been with day, after day, after day of thunderstorms. Well, all that rain helped to keep temperatures down a bit, especially in the month of August. The month ends on Sunday and it looks like it will end with no official 90-degree days in the month of August. (last year, there were 6 90-degree days in August alone)

Here are some more stats for you.

-To date August is running 2.8 degrees below normal
- Average number of 90 degree days for Boston is 14
- Last year 2007 we had 18 days at or above 90 degrees
- So far in 2008 we've had 8days- 4 in June and 4 in July
(the 4 days in June were before the summer solstice)

Last year, we did hit 90 degrees 3 times in September, so there's still hope if you like the heat. (I don't, 70s and 80s are just fine for me) In the next 5-10 days though, I don't see it happening.

Enjoy the Labor Day weekend

-Cindy

Cindy....Def of a heat wave is 3 days of 90 degree temp or more, right? Who came up with that? One day is as bad as three. I say we change a heat wave to any day above 90 degrees and after 3 days we call it a above average heat wave. I happen to dispise the heat. When I'm watching Fox25 weather and am told after like 2 days of 90 degree heat that, "This isn't a heat wave folks, nope. Need 3 days in a row."

OH never mind. Stupid request but I bet if you asked people on the street what they think a heat wave is they would say 1 day. Ya think?

Well to late in the year to worry about it..Have a good long weekend yourself....chao !

Cindy, I must say just looking at the forecast, I'm ready for the 80s again after a week of 90s (and HIGH humidity - heat indices around 103) down here in Florida, for once I don't want to see another heat wave this year!

Also, glad we snuck in a quiet Caribbean between Fay and Gustav!

Just glad to go home today, the folks here are preparing for Hanna right now...

Cindy, I enjoy your forecasts in the AM and watch before I go to work.

Geo-engineering: The radical ideas to combat global warming
Artificial clouds and creating colossal blooms of oceanic algae are among the ideas scientists say must now be considered

Artificial clouds to reflect away sunlight, creating colossal blooms of oceanic algae and the global use of synthetic carbon-neutral transport fuels are just three of the climate transforming technologies in need of urgent investigation, according to leading scientists. The eminent group argue that, with governments failing to grasp the urgent need for measures to combat dangerous climate change, radical – and possibly dangerous – solutions must now be seriously considered.

The idea of engineering on a planetary scale in a bid to control climate has been around for more than 50 years but, to date, has remained on the fringes. The potential for dramatic and beneficial change has hitherto been outweighed by the risk of unexpected side-effects in the complex climate system, with global conseq

Cindy,

I just wanted to thank you for making the weather interesting to my six year old son, Ethan. He is curious about so much and he learns so much listening to you. Thanks.

Martha
