If you’re an early riser, than you've probably been noticing this for a couple of months now.  Those sunrises have been getting later and later.

Well... now if you’re a not so early riser than you've probably noticed too.  This morning the sun did not pop over the horizon until 7:00am.  That is the latest sunrise we have had since March 13th... wow!

It will get worse before it gets better.  We'll tack on a minute or so a day until November 3rd when the sun rises at 7:20am.  On November 4th, Daylight Saving Time will be over, and it'll be back to Standard Time and the sun will be up at 6:21am.  Don't get too excited... we'll keep losing daylight each day into January.  Sunrise is 7:00am EST on December 7th, and will keep getting later for another month or so (January 8th 7:14am EST) before it starts going the other way again.

Maybe next week we’ll talk about sunsets... don't want to depress you all at once.

Have a great weekend!

-Cindy

Cindy:

Why is it dark when the sun isn't out?

Cindy,
Sunset blogs are fine, but don't forget to blog on next month's moon.

Gene... so you'll have an excuse for wearing scooby socks with a suit.

VB... is that the 'Full Frost Moon' that you are referring to on November 13th?

Great responses, Cindy!

I keep waking up thinking it's the middle of the night, when it's already 6am and I gotta get up. Ugh! Can't complain, you and the rest of the Morning Crew are already up and at'em hours earlier!

Shorter daylight hours is one thing I really don't look forward to in the upcoming months, especially the 4:20pm sunsets. Leave for work, it's dark out, leave from work, it's dark again, did the sun ever come out?

As Yogi Berra once said, "it gets late early here..."

Cindy:

As one who suffers from sunlight deprivation I am not looking forward to the next several months of not only less sunlight, but ones with little feel of warmth. Brrrrrrr!

Also, good luck in keeping VB and Gene in check with next months full moon. Too funny!

I've noticed the dark morngs and so has my son. He thinks I am waking him up in the middle of the night when it is actually time to get ready for school!

I dislike this time of year more than January. I much rather would be in time of year where there is hope. I like the fact the days are getting longer, even though it is colder.

I don't use an alarm clock, I have a golden retriever (18 months old) who used to wake me up at 5:30 ish to go out. But since she wakes up by the sunlight, she is oversleeping and not waking me up. I guess you could say that my alarm is solar powered? Now I have to wake her up to go out. Kitty on the otherhand, once you open one eye, not matter what tiem it is, one eye open means breakfast and you are harassed until you get out of bed.

As long as the sun comes up in time for me & my son to be visible when we cross the street for his bus at 7:37 each morning...

Sounds like the darker mornings have been throwing a lot of you off!
I generally wake up when it's dark out anyway (that alarm clock goes off at 2:12am Mon-Fri)so as far as it impacting my sleep- it happens only on weekends. NelleBelle- I've got a couple 'solar powered' alarm clocks of my own- one is 3yrs old and the other is 10months now. My husband looks forward to the later sunrises so the boys sleep in... just a little.

Ah yes, I forgot about your boys. I can toss the cat off the bed and go back to sleep. I hear it is not recommended for kids. :)

Why do we even do daylight savings time?I think we should stay with one time all the time

2:12am?? Wow, I'm impressed. Is your bedtime before sundown in the summer??

Bedtime is when my 3yr old finally goes to sleep BRSfan... when I'm lucky its before sunset in the summer Tony- but that's a rarity!
MEK1971... DST can be confusing... but it does save a couple of bucks I suppose- and these days esp. that's a good thing.
