... and sweaty palms.... and a faster heart rate that is still coming down from this morning! I just returned from a morning of broadcasting live at the Boston Museum of Science where they have a new exhibit called Goose Bumps: the Science of Fear. If you caught any of the show this morning... than you probably saw me 'experiencing' interactive fear challenges involving snakes... a giant cockroach... loud noises... and getting shocked among others.

The exhibit was pretty cool and definitely worth checking out.... it takes you through what goes on inside your mind and body when you are scared. In the spirit of making you laugh (sadly at my own expense)... here's a video clip for you of what went on with me during the 'fear of falling' challenge:

I also learned that there is a 'phobia' for just about everything this morning. My personal favorite was learning Doug Meehan was gamophobic! (Gamophobia is the fear of marriage.)

Boo!
Cindy

Great segment, Cindy, and wonderful expression on the falling clip! Was that a free-fall?? I was squirming with you as you reached into the mystery box. What was in there anyways?? I'm afraid to find out.

Gamophobia, very funny! Sorry Doug. I suspect neither Gene, VB, nor Doug have Caligynephobia... (the fear of beautiful women) :)

I have acrophobia, I'm very afraid of heights. And not just being up atop a tall building, my knees get weak when I'm standing *on the ground* next to a tall building and looking up. Wonder if they have a name for that..?

Also afraid of snakes and creatures that have more than 4 legs, though my wife is the opposite, she loves little bugs though she is mycophobic, an incredible fear of mice...

Bridges. I have a fear of bridges. When I'm driving my hands sweat and itch. I can't look to the sides. I have to look straight ahead. Even when walking over one I can't look down. Is there a name for that? My other fear, irrational as it is, is my keys falling down through a sewer grate. I know, silly, but if they're not in my purse, I hold my keys in my hand extremely tight when near one.

Cindy - I think you knew Doug had the fear you just didn't know there was a name for it.

I have a friend who has the same phobia that Kramer had on Seinfeld - Coulrophobia which is a fear of clowns.

I suffer from musophobia which is a fear of rats.

Great story, but the question remains "Did you enjoy being scared"?

Cindy,

Doug's fear is NO surprise!!!!

I suffer from entomophobia, or fear of insects. More specifically, roaches. I freak the hell out!!! And if it's one of the big ones, forget it....may as well call the loony ward. The giant roach in this exhibit would kill me. My heart would simply stop beating.

For me...heights. Well...falling, specifically.

Cindy, I posted comments on your last blog about what a great segment that was.
You are a star and truly deserve to be snagged by a network.
