Don't know how many times I've said this during the morning, but it's so true. Even though it will still be cool today, there will be LESS WIND. So, it will FEEL more comfortable.

Yesterday, one of our directors said to me "so when does a breeze officially become a biting wind." Yeah, I think we're there. A little wind makes a BIG difference when temps are in the 40s. Wind chills hovered in the 20s and 30s most of the day Tuesday.

I think I will get out in the yard today and tackle a few projects that I was too 'wimpy' to attempt yesterday. If you're like me, better hurry before the rain returns tomorrow afternoon.

BTW, on this date in 1987, we had up to 14 inches of snow in Plymouth County and 7 inches in Boston. 15 days til Thanksgiving and we're still waiting. (OK with me for a couple more weeks!)

I agree, Cindy, it's all about the wind this time of year! I certainly felt the "biting wind" up in the stands at the Pats game Sunday despite temps in the mid-50s, yet yesterday my wife and I thought it felt "warmer" even though it was in the low 40s but the wind had diminished.

Get that yardwork done, I can tell you firsthand it wasn't fun bagging wet leaves on Saturday!

Quickly, was last week's early-season blizzard in the Rockies and midwest a sign of things to come this winter? By that I wonder when the midwest has a tendency to get a lot of snow in a season, does that mean less for New England? Jet streams, storm tracks, etc...

I got my yard raked yesterday in my winter coat because i am always wimpy in the wind lol. I'm more than happy to wait as long as we can before the really cold weather. No snow till December please we have to give others time to clean up the yard right lol

Cindy,
Was t the wind that caused your wardrobe malfunction this morning? Thankfully Doug was able to sew that button back on for your next report.

cut it out VB...

To answer your question BRSfan- in a word- NO One necessary has nothing to do with the other. If they were to keep getting snow and the pattern persisted for weeks... then sure... would certainly impact us here. But the pattern has to stick... and that hasn't been happening.
The jetstream pattern last week was one to support the storm in Rockies and then it pulled out into the plains. There was enough cold air in place at the time to support the snow and enough moisture left for the storm to tap into for it to pile up in some spots. Those crazy totals out of South Dakota (30 and 40+ inches) were elevation enhanced (called orographic uplift in meteorology speak... the added lift by air passing over the higher terrain squeezes out more moisture). Anyway, it is warmer there now and temps have even modified a bit in Canada temporarily.
A new surge of cold is set to drop down from the arctic into Canada... and then into the US early next week. The changing jetstream will bring some of that cold here for Mon/Tue/Wed of next week. We might even see a few flurries here on Tuesday- stay tuned!
