Minus the snow of course... at least for now. No big storms in the making- just a few sprinkles or flurries in a few spots Tuesday and perhaps again on Thursday.

The story this week is the cold... a bit of a shock to the system as well after touching 70 degrees this weekend! A huge dip... or trough in the the jet stream has brought unseasonably cold temperatures all the way down into the deep south (it was 33 in Atlanta, Georgia this morning!)

Average highs this time of year should still be around 50... that's not happening this week. 40s today and then mostly in the 30s for highs the rest of the week. Keep in mind a typical high for us on December 30th is 38 degrees... I don't think we get there Wednesday or Thursday and wind chills will hover in the 20s through the afternoon.

Yikes... guess I'm not getting to the rest of the mess in my yard this week! Any one else in my boat with still some yard clean-up to do? If so... (and you're a wimp like me with the cold)... looking long range I do see a little warm up coming early next week... but it could come with rain. Stay tuned!

Brrr...

Cindy

No kidding! We went to Crane Beach on friday for a good long walk with dog. It was super foggy but incredibly warm. We saw some seals fishing in the neck of the river. It was so very nice out. It has actually been so warm my honeysuckle vine is blooming again.

But after seeing the weather report Sat morning, I went out and hooked up the heat lamp in the hen house and put their water heater in. Change out all the bedding in the nest boxes and filled them 1/2 way up with shavings. Chickens are ready for winter and so am I.

But I did get excited when you mentioned the word snow. Am really ready to get back on the x-country skiis.

Oh, and as a side note to Cindy... I still am getting tomatoes and peppers from the greenhouse. There are about 8 plum tomatos left on the plant I pulled up and hung upside down. And the bell peppers and jalapenos are still growing in the pots. Hopefully we will have enough sun this week to keep the 55 gal water barrels warm to keep the frost out at night.

Haven't even started raking the leaves Cindy; I was hoping they would blow into the neighbors yard, but no such luck:)
My son is going to start raking today, and hopefully we will have everything ready for winter by Christmas. BTW, I hate raking leaves!! (esp. in the cold). I will be planting bulbs when that is done, if the ground doesn't freeze this week.

I am looking forward to raking my yard in the crisp autumnal air tomorrow, Cindy.
...Can't wait...one of my favorite things to do!

Cindy, like you I'm a wimp for the cold weather too, guess I'm definitely not gonna like this upcoming week. Bundle up, I suppose!

Don't worry, all the yardwork can wait for next spring. Betcha a bag of PLAIN M&M's that thanks to the weather you won't get around to it until '09... :)

This after 70 degrees and a tornado watch Saturday! You know people will be blaming the weather this week for runny noses.

I still have more leaves to do, even blogged about it, but won't get to it until after the winds coming Wednesday. Waste of time before that for me.

Cindy... surprised to find you are a wimp about the cold. Didn't you grow up in MAINE and go to school at the north pole?

Yeah, I second Kevin's comments, Cindy.
I only went to high school in Maine & it toughened me up to the cold. In fact, my years in Maine caused me to love the cold! What happened to you, girl?

I can handle the cold when it's not windy... and that will be the case the next few days- so forget about it!
You guys are right... with all my years in latitudes north of here- I should be less of a cold wimp. Maybe that year and a half in Florida thinned my blood!

Hi Cindy,

It's not a matter of getting use to the cold. Humans are warm-blooded. There are those that can handle the cold better than others but it's because they have a higher metabolic rate. As we age our metabolism drops and we then become susceptible to the effects of cold air. Now that I'm old, I hate the cold!

Thank God for global warming. Could you imagine how cold it would be without it?

lscwxman,

If you are referring to co2 gas, I can imagine. It would probably be only a little colder because as Kev and many esteemed climate scientists have said, co2 at its present concentration is not a significant warmer. The unsettling aspect is that there isn't any control over human co2 emission as it relates to accumulation in the atmosphere. This is why I described Al Gore as an "alarmist ahead of his time".

Mr_Ozone,

It was sarcasm. Human caused global warming is a fraudulent myth.

Mr_Ozone,

I take it you missed the sarcasm in that statement. Human caused global warming, in my opinion, is a fraudulent myth perpatrated on us by Al Gore and the liberal media who bow and worship to him.
