Earlier this week we talked about how it was feeling more like December than November. Now, it's feeling more like January than November.

We should still be near 50 this time of year. Our highs don't average in the mid 30s until January. Yet... that's where we will hover the next few days. Wednesday actually set a record in Worcester- the high was only 29 degrees. That set a record for the coldest high temperature ever recorded at the airport on November the 19th. In Boston... we managed 33 degrees- but wind chills were stuck in the teens and 20s all day.

Now here's where it gets interesting to me. It's NOT unheard of to get cold spells in November where temps don't get out of the 30s. It might happen one or two times each year. If you go back and look at the number of days that highs didn't get out of the 30s in Boston in the month of November over the past five years.... here's what you get.

November 2007 1 day
November 2006 0 days
November 2005 3 days (we had snow on Thanksgiving that year remember)
November 2004 1 day
November 2003 0 days

So... quick math gives you 5 days over the past 5 years. Yesterday, marked day number one for us (with our 33 degree high in Boston). I'm forecasting 30s today, Friday and Saturday. Maybe 40 degrees on Sunday. So that's at least a 4 day stretch... and THAT is unusual.

Can you say Brrr....

*BTW are you REALLY raking in this weather Graham_Cracker???

That's it Cindy!! I'm going out today to buy the biggest SUV I can find, petition the city of Worcester to build a huge new coal-fired power plant, and set my thermostat at 80 degrees until we can get Global Warming to actually do what it's supposed to do!!

This really is ridiculous, Cindy, I'm afraid to peek at the 90-day long range forecasts to see what's in store for us!

But I do believe in the law of averages, so I'll be bold and predict a milder than normal December to offset this bitter November chill.

So G-C, hold off that raking for a few weeks!

Kev indicated global cooling and Cindy deserves a lot of credit too with her thinking about the winter. But wait, what date is today?

Cindy:

Cold but the sun was out today. I'll take that over a 40 degree cloudy day anytime.

Besides, this is New England what do people expect?

Cindy: I promise I will never watch another station, if you can make it go into the mid 40's for a few days.

Thanks.....

Cindy it's never cold in my house when your doing the weather. LOL" That's what I tell my wife, Cindy's on it's getting hot in here.
It's all in the fun and truth of a beautiful woman, I am happily married and believe telling someone that they are beautiful because some people take it for granite that it's said more than not and the little things in life are the cheapest and the most rewarding. Joe

Are you calling me a 'wuss' Glousta?! I think you may be on to something. I can handle the teens... 20s and 30s with wind chills near zero just fine- in January!! :)
By Monday when we're all just getting used to this... it'll be back in the 40s. We better hit 50 again before Christmas- or I'll never get out lights up in time!!
Heading up to Maine for the weekend... should be A LOT WARMER THERE... wink- wink.
Happy Weekend All.

Actually, as long as there is no snow or frozen ice on the ground, I am fine.

Incredibly this cold spell might lower Cindy's carbon footprint if only by a small amount. She may not be able to get the Xmas lights out this year! I shudder to think.

No, Cindy, I wasn't inferring you were a wuss. Just making a statement about how rugged we have to be here! :)
