I know this is hardly new news, but strides are being made.  I for one, as a parent, would love the security of knowing where my children were, if God forbid, they ever were abducted:

NEW YORK —  From little ones prone to running off in crowds to big kids hitting the road for the first time, a bunch of new devices claim to help parents keep an "eye" on their children — even when they're not around.

The most controversial of these gadgets is an under-the-skin personal location device from Applied Digital Solutions. Using Global Positioning Satellite technology, a microchip surgically implanted in the body finds children and notifies parents of their whereabouts.

ADS says the device, which is the size of a wristwatch-face and may become even smaller, could be used to find kidnapped children, locate young kids who wander away from parents and track teens who participate in at-risk behavior.

"With an implanted device, the child doesn't have to remember to wear it. It can't be lost or stolen or stripped away. And it's totally concealed," company spokesman Matthew Cossolotto said.

A prototype will be available later this year. In the meantime, ADS already manufactures two similar products: VeriChip and Digital Angel.

Cossolotto says VeriChip ($200 plus $9.95 a month), an under-the-skin, tamper-proof method of identifying one person against another, could help prevent kidnappings like the one of Utah teen Elizabeth Smart.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure all those parents whose children have been kidnapped and never found would have loved to have this devise. I'd microchip my kids if there were no dangerous side effects.

You really need to rethink this strategy...

Do you really like the idea of being tracked everywhere you go?

What ever happened to be RESPONSIBLE for your children? Let me guess, you never know where your children are, right? Talk about irresponsibility.

Lets also look at statistics. MOST children are abducted by their biological parents involved in a divorce. Other than a few individuals who need help to begin with (oh, and by the way, placing an ID under the skin will only identify the body AFTER the fact), show the number of actual kids taken by strangers who wanted them for some other purpose.

There are 300,000,000+ people in the US.
1)How many are children?
2)How many children are taken each year (without consent)?
3)How many are taken of those that are a result of a domestic situation?
4)How many of those are just "run-a-ways"?

Let's be realistic here before we mandate that EVERY American receive a chip planted in their forehead (do you actually think for one minute that it would stop with children?)

If persons were inclined to take you kids (God forbid), then what's to stop them from just cutting your kids arm off to prevent being tracked?

Use some common sense here. Think about what you're asking for.

Concerned One.

First of all, how dare you accuse me of not knowing where my children are, I always know where they are. But, because my wife and I have to work, they have to go to daycare during the day, and they go to sunday school and children's church every Sunday. And, you know, what, bad things can still happen to the most conscientious and aware people. I never suggested that this should be mandatory, I just like the idea that the option is out there. And say what you will, but if this has saved one child's life, it's a worthwhile effort.
