I've noticed that the only TV show people on Fox seem to discuss is American Idol. (This year I barely watched it) At work everybody watches Lost, CSI, and nothing I seem to watch. I'll sit at lunch and want to saw, 'so..how about Dwight and Angela??" but crickets would chirp.
So.... any Office Fans out there?? I love that show! It just cracks me up. My husband won't watch it, so I am left to laugh out loud alone with nobody to share my fun. Does anyone else look forward to Thursday nights after a hard days work?

I know nobody wants to have one, but everyone over 50 should have one. I made an appointment for my husband and I to have one, as he has it in his family, and I felt if I had one and he saw how it went, then he would be more willing. Well, I had one, and everything was fine. He went in a few weeks later and a large polyp was found, that couldn't be removed. Surgery was hastily scheduled as he has colon cancer in his family. The polyp was found on Weds, our son graduated from Boston University on Sunday and he went into the hospital this past Friday and is still there. Everything went ok, but it will be a long recovery before he can work again. I know you don't want to hear it, but you MUST get a colonsopy, if over 50. IF it is in your family tree, you must have one at 40. It will save your life. It is painless and done in under 30 minutes. His screening saved his life.

Ok Folks, if you want to see a hilarious, and clean, play, go to the Opera House and see the musical The Drowsy Chaperone. I went last night with my husband. I'd bought my tickets last year as I'd seen this play in NYC, and wanted my husband to see it. It is here for about 2 weeks, I think. The lead part is played by Jonathon Crombie, or "Gilbert" from the Anne of Green Gables mini series. I didn't know he was that funny. I dragged my husband to see it and he loved it also. It is only 90 minutes which is another plus. It is well worth seeing. I'd seen it a few times in NYC w/friends, and hoped it would still be as good as I remembered it. It was better. Don't let this one pass you by.

I walked into the lunch room today to do my lunch duty. A few hands flew in the air, as they saw me. I thought, 'oh what now!', and walked over to the boys and said, 'No, you CAN"T go to the bathroom!', to which they replied, 'it's not that!', so I then said, "I'm not listening to tattles!'. "No, it's not that. Ok, then WHAT is it?" Mrs. X, are aliens real??"
I paused. Ok, do I give the "scientific" answer?, " my opinion" answer, or ''don't give children nightmares', answer. The latter. No, kids, they are NOT real! To which a roar rose up from the table, "Yes, they are! I saw it on TV last night!!" And 'See, I told you!" Ahh, I've soothed some fears, and quieted some dreams, but caused a ruckus. Oh well.

I was working at school and it was time for the 1st grade lunch. The First Graders were getting ready by putting on their coats and getting their lunch baskets. One boy named Brandon was first in line. As often happens, all the kids coats, backpacks, lunches smell like their homes--strong tobacco smells. Brandon had his coat on, and was standing in line. Another boy, was coming back from the bathroom, and as he passed Brandon, through the crowded doorway, he paused and looked at him and said, 'You know, Brandon, you really shouldn't smoke'.
I laughed out loud.

Yesterday I took my 87 year old father in law to do grocery shopping, since his car is broken down. (yes, he can still drive) While we were going up and down the aisles at the store, he was checking off the items on the list. He wanted some health food organic type tortillas. I looked at the price and told him they were $6 a bag, and he should get the cheap store brand. He said they were lower in salt and fat. I just looked at him, and said, 'you are 87 years old. I think you'll be ok with the store brand'.
Now in his cart, he had 3 big bags of cheetos, cheese nips, 2 lg bags of Peanut M&M's, several bottles of soda, bottles of cranberry juice, oranges, green peppers, brocoli, and several stouffers dinners of stuffed cabbage, and various other meals, many soups, potato salad, baloney and a loaf of bread.
He stores his junk food in his 50 yr old oven as he never turns it on, and puts his food in his 50+ yr old refrigerator. He stores his frozen foods in a large freezer in his basement, and it's filled to the brim with microwave dinners, and Klondike bars.
I left him with his cheetos, and M&M's, next to his easy chair and his remote control on his side table. He was going to make himself a hot lunch, then watch all the 'judge shows'.
Ahh the good life!
I thought how nice it must be, to have survived to a ripe old age and be entitled to have half your shopping cart dedicated to your favorite junk foods.

What books did you get for Christmas??
I got A Thousand Splendid Suns, from my sister in law, and I could NOT put it down! Read it in 3 days! One of my all time new favorites. It's written by The Kite Runer Author. I love true, realistic, informative type of books.
I gave her Girl From the Jungle, by Sabine Kuegler, true story about a girl who grows up in the jungles. Another wonderful book.
Did you get any good books to share with us readers? I'm looking for some suggestions.

I have a sister, who writes e-mails so funny, I actually forward them to some of my friends, who then forward them to their friends. I think she should write a column on Motherhood for the newspaper. I called her on the phone yesterday, she told me about her latest trip with her kids. Now my sister had 3 kids in her 40's (yes, naturally!!) and they are now 13, 11, 8. She took her girls, and a friend, down to Bakersfield,CA (she lives in the mountains and it's an hour drive) to go ice skating. As she pulled into the parking lot, her 11 yr old said, 'I'm sick', and threw up all over the car, and then got out. She sent the girls in, and cleaned the car up. When she went inside, the girls were all sitting at the snack bar, with skates on and decided they were done skating and didn't want to skate anymore. All 15 minutes of skating. Miffed, my sister, put them all back in the car, drove back up the hill, to find that the freeway had closed, and the detour was hours out of her way. A compassionate cop, let her take the freeway to her town, and when they pulled in the driveway, her daughter threw up again. As Sister was cleaning it up, with Daughter, her daughter told her it was her fault she threw up as she didn't really want to go ice skating. I told my sister, 'welcome to the tween years--it begins'.
Another time, as she was driving up the mountain w/ kids, and dog in tow, the dog got sick, on both ends, and as she was driving, the kids were all screaming, the dog was bouncing around the car, getting sick on everybody, and by the time she found a place to pull over, the car was a smelly mess. She pulled into a rest area, and was rummaging around in a public trash can to find something she could wipe up the mess. A homeless man came up to her and asked her if she had spare change, and she spun around at him, with a wild eyed look and screamed, 'do I LOOK like I have spare change!!!', and he cowered away. Her autistic son wet his clothes twice and was wrapped in a sheet, her girls were yucky, and the dog was whimpering, the car smelled like a sewer, as she drove into her driveway. Her husband came out to meet her and foolishly asked her if she brought home dinner. I think he's still cowering in a corner to this day....
I've been saving her e-mails. Someday I might compile a book.....

My youngest son, bought his older brother an old nintendo system on Craigs list. He was told it worked fine. He sent a lot of money on it, and was SO excited to give it to his brother. Well, come christmas morning, the game system does not work. I told him to contact this kid who sold it to him, and demand his money back. He said he only has his address and e-mail, and has e-mailed him and gotten no reply. Is there something he can do? Does Craig's list back up there buyers? Any advice on what to do? I don't like to see my son ripped off of his hard earned money!

It's the day after Christmas. It's been 3 days of parties! Husband's birthday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and I feel like I have a hangover, and I don't even drink! My sister in law makes the best food ever, with the best baklava in the world, mint brownies to die for, peanut butter chocolate balls, rich cakes, cookies, pies, etc. On Christmas eve, we meet with friends and family and ate, sang carols, talked, and went home on a sugar high. I have mounds of brazilian and lindt chocolates on my table, from my boys. I headed out the door to get Atkins diet book..... I need to detox.
What works for everybody else?

Today in the metrowest new, (www.metrowestdailynews.com) there is an article about a Jazmin, who attempted suicide last year at Marlboro High School. She miraculously survived the fall, but knocked all her teeth out, as she fell on her face. It affected our family deeply, as she is my son's girlfriend. He wanted to do a fund raiser to help her fix her teeth, but due to confidentiality, the schools couldn't allow it. Well, now her name can be public, and her family is trying to raise $25,000 to get her dental implants at Boston University Dental School. Marlborough Savings Bank has set up a fund called A Smile For Jazmin. I know Fox Readers are giving people and any amount would help her retain her smile. The address is:
Marlboro Savings Bank
166 Main St
Marlboro, MA 01752
Check to: A Smile For Jazmin
Fox news--Maybe you could do an news article about this?? The family is very open to it.
Thanks

My husbands birthday is tomorrow. (23rd) It is emblazoned on everybody's mind, as we have a tradition in our house. On your birthday, EVERYONE, and I mean everyone, is your personal slave. You don't have to do anything your don't want to do, and if you drop a pencil at your feet, you can ask anyone to come pick it up, and they have to do it. We even have a song, from that Community Auditions tv show, of Star Of The Day, but we sing, 'slave of the day, who will it be, it will be you, it won't be me'. Get the picture? Well, because my husbands birthday is so close to christmas, he 'claims' that growing up, he always got short changed. So when we married, I had a big surprise birthday party for him and all our friends. Well, it's 25 yrs later, and we still have 'the annual Captain XX surprise birthday party. Though not this year. Everybody is too busy. It's gotten to be a joke at church with everyone asking when the party is. Well, this year. it's just us and the missionaries in our church, who are away from home.
Does anyone else have Christmas time birthday or birthday traditions?
Oh feel free to wish Captain a happy birthday, at captain.seapig@juno.com Hee Hee Hee

I was watching V.B. on the news this morning attacking Mitt for being emotional about his faith, and calling him fake. V.B., who are you judge Mitt's emotion's about the LDS church giving the Blacks the priesthood? Every single mormon knows exactly where they were when they heard this news. We all rejoiced. I can tell you the exact spot I was standing at college, which class I was coming from, where I was going, and exactly what I did and how I felt. I called my mom, in tears. This was a milestone in our Faith. It is hard for others to understand unless you believe in divine revelation. Our faith believes in revelation. In Christ's time, they weren't allowed to take the gospel to the Gentiles. Then it changed. The Lord has always done things in His own way, giving His Gospel to certain groups of people. He has eternal perspective, that men are not blessed with, and we do not know the reasons. Of course, our belief centers around our belief in a Prophet and him receiving revelation from God. The fastest growth in our church right now, is in Africa. When you insult one mormon, you insult us all. We usually ignore comments about us, as we get them all the time, but I had to speak up on this one.

As I was listening the kids at school discussing whether or not Santa was real, it reminded me of when I was small, and having the same discussions with my friends. The other day, a little girl told me that she saw Santa at her house on Christmas morning. Apparently someone dressed up like santa and came to visit her. She told me how he knew her name and then with stars in her eyes, told me she got to pet him reindeer. I asked, 'did you see them fly?" She paused, then said, 'yes!" I chuckled, at her excitment and belief that she did see them fly in the sky. I remember gazing into the night sky searching for Santa , with my big brother. Steve would wake me up at 2 am, and we'd run to our parents room. They'd tell us to go back to bed. 3am, we were back. Go back to bed, they'd say. 4am, 5 am, Finally at 6, they let us get up. How early did you get up? And did you ever think you saw Santa flying in the sky?

Last night I went to see Les Miserables' at North Shore Musical Theater in Beverly. Wow! I've seen it Boston, NYC, and London, plus I directed a production of it a couple of years ago. This production was amazing! Done w/ professional NYC actors, in an arena style, it captured the emotion of Les Miz more than I've ever seen, as the actors were so close to the audience. This is a must see! It is only there till Nov 18th, and worth every dime. I went w/ my nephews wife, as my husband had 'seen it enough times'. I don't think you can see Les Miz too many times. The story is a timeless story of love and forgiveness. Don't miss out on this wonderful experience. www.nsmt.org
