My youngest son, bought his older brother an old nintendo system on Craigs list. He was told it worked fine. He sent a lot of money on it, and was SO excited to give it to his brother. Well, come christmas morning, the game system does not work. I told him to contact this kid who sold it to him, and demand his money back. He said he only has his address and e-mail, and has e-mailed him and gotten no reply. Is there something he can do? Does Craig's list back up there buyers? Any advice on what to do? I don't like to see my son ripped off of his hard earned money!

Drama, I'm not too sure about Craig's List's policies about backing up buyers, but there should be an "abuse" e-mail address and a "help" one. If your son (who bought the system) isn't getting any response from the seller, have him e-mail those two addresses looking for help.

As an aside, do you guys know what's wrong with it? (I'm pretty good at messing with the original Nintendo Entertainment System from 86/87, if that's what he bought)

He said it's a 'wire'. I'll ask him when he's awake and coherent. He INSISTS there is nothing he can do, but I bet to differ. I'd contact Craig's list, or even the police in his town.

I'm with you. Contact Craig's List first, and if you get nowhere, try the cops. If it's just a connecting wire though, he could always use a service called Free Cycle to see if anyone happens to have a spare part.

I would send an email to the seller letting him know that the police will be alerted if he does not reply within 24 hours with a place and time convenient for refund. If that doesn't work, call the police. They can track the address given (if valid) and the I.P. address of the computer the person used.

Unfortunately, I don't think Craigslist will do anything, as they have disclaimers about dealing at your own risk. I hope your son gets this worked out soon.
