I own seven of the top 10, and I still think Amy Winehouse's album beats them all. If it were my list, I'd have Arcade Fire higher than The National, and I'd move Bruce down a couple of notches ("Magic" is excellent and has some flawless moments, but it isn't the third best album of the year) - I'd also move PJ Harvey's "White Chalk" up a bit, it takes a while to get under your skin but I found that record completely haunting and beautiful. And where's Jay-Z?

Jeff... Does this mean I'm waaay older than I think. Iron and Wine? Avett brothers? Be honest Jeff, how many out of 100 do YOU know?

I'd say I've heard of at least of half the bands on the list, heard music from 1/2 of that list, and own 1/2 the albums from that list... if that makes any sense.

I think these lists are a testament to the total irrelevance of radio in terms of playing new, QUALITY music. I mean, I didn't see Fergie anywhere on that list.

I probably recognize six or seven names in this list. And I would have put Nora Jones closer to the top of the heap.

I've heard of about 90% of these artists, mostly from 88.9 WERS and a channel on XM satellite radio called "The Verge", which plays all the hipster stuff. My son also loves many of these artists...particularly Animal Collective. It's neat that PJ Harvey is on the list. I fell in love with her the first time I heard her wail "lick my legs and I'm on fi-arrr...lick my legggs and I'm de-si-arrrr!" back in like...'92?
Maria, you would LOVE Iron & Wine...you can't have anything but love for them. Check out "Boy With A Coin". ...Brilliant stuff.

I just bought the new Sunset Rubdown album, and it's really really good. But probably not for everyone. I'm a sucker for weirdo Canadian indie/experimental music.

Three Day Threshold was left off this list. Shame.

Jeff, I'm with you on the Radiohead being higher on the list...I actually paid for the download, and I think it's worth it. And Kevin, I agree that Bruce Springsteen's album is good, but not THAT good.

where's motion city soundtrack? have you heard "even if it kills me"? it's a CD you can't skip over anysongs they are so good...

also bright eyes has been around for a while and i still adore them, Bjork?! seriously i love her.Dino JR, up and coming in Boston, i'm telling you.

honestly i love prince but his new stuff just doesn't do it for me.. i grew up on "prince and the revolution" and of course morris day and the time. yeah i can go on and on about "old" purple one, but his lackluster vegas stuff doesn't make me want to pay 125$ a ticket, oplus airfare, heck no.

Amy Winehouse, she's been out for years, but not in the US. her voice transends generations and her lyrics are somewhat nerve striking,
