Today I made some impulse buys to help me jump start my own vinyl collection.
Perhaps inspired by my parent's record collection, perhaps inspired by that r
ecent article in the Boston Globe about increased vinyl sales or perhaps just delusional because of the hot hot heat, i made these two purchases:

That's Neutral Milk Hotel's
"In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" and Radiohead's
"In Rainbows" from L-R, if you're scoring at home.
Newbury Comics is rebuilding their fledgling collection and they had some pretty cool stuff. The prices vary, most of the Beatles' records and Radiohead's "The Bends" were about $40. My two records cost about $25 total. I would've loved to buy more ("Funeral" and "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank" were calling their indie rock siren song) but I cut myself off.
So, why vinyl? Well, I rarely buy CD's anymore. Most bands are offering their own music for free online, or they leak it on their own or they're for sale on iTunes. Albums aren't tangible anymore, which is a shame. These two records in particular are works of art on the inside and the outisde. In The Aeroplane... came with one of the coolest inserts I've ever seen. Most music worth a damn is mixed with vinyl in mind, so you get a cool sound you might not necessarily hear on your iPod.
Plus, with CD's you can't
DO THIS! (Well, maybe Beetljuice can, he has a small head)
So, there's where my head is at on the vinyl revival (revinylval?). Now I just need to learn how to use the record player without scratching the record every damn time...
