AL-ASAD AIR BASE, Iraq  --  President Bush, briefed by U.S. military commanders and Iraqi leaders, said Monday some American forces could be sent home if security across Iraq improves as it has in Anbar province, a former hotbed of Sunni insurgency.

Video: President Bush Visits Iraq on Labor Day (MyFoxNY)

But the president, flanked by Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, did not say how many troops could be withdrawn or how soon.

The above is from a Fox story. I thought there was nothing to blog about but there is! I thought Bush was actually going to Iraq to support our troops because he said some could start to go home. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, and thought, well, maybe he is wisening up. Then I read that he is still holding on to the "Plan that is so good I can't tell you what it is" Iraq troop withrdrawal/"war" attitude. I can't believe he told our troops who have been over there, fighting, that they could go home when "Iraq improves".

That is what Bush has been saying for over 5 years! He did not need to travel to Iraq to tell the troops that, as if it is there fault. I know several troops who felt the President's actions, in this case and all, DO NOT support the well being of our troops. Bush's visit was "a big deal for nothing" as no action or change has been made as far as withdrawal. Though I am encouraged that Bush actually "worked", and SOME troops were encouraged by his visit, his words and actions hardly have the US military's well being in good or even adequate hands. If you are going to let troops go home keep your darn word and don't add conditions on it! Some families might actually take his words to be honest, and for them I wrote this.

Actually afterreading those comments there really isn't anything to blog about. If you took the time t understand it is up to the generals to decide how long the men stay not the President.

While Bush may be commander and chief it is the generals who run the war as they should, contrary to political belief they run the war and are the ones who decide when it is a good time to drawdown. They have stated in the spring and I for one believe them having served in a war zone I also believe I have a better insight to the military mindset than those who have never served.

This is not so easy as to say lets just pull people out and it's done, it has to be done in a way that does not send Iraq into total chaos as many on the left would like, even Hilary and Obama understand this much and do not believe in setting arbitrary timetables.

Your comment "Though I am encouraged that Bush actually "worked", and SOME troops were encouraged by his visit, his words and actions hardly have the US military's well being in good or even adequate hands"

is an insult to the leaders(Generals, Colonels) in charge who are doing a good job in cleaning up the mess. I for one believe in our military leaders, and I also know quite a few soldiers, sailors, and airman who are serving and they believe we need to make sure to finish the job of stabalizing the country and are proud to serve.

It's good some troops that are serving are confident. As I said I am encouraged some troops' spirits were lifted from Bushs' visit. This is a good thing.

I am not in favor of the president standing up and doing a PowerPoint for the world to see on how many troops will be exiting each day. That would simply encourage those fighting against the cause to hang on until that time. The world (including evildoers) is watching, and that kind of info should not be broadcast.

I continue to pray each day for the safe return of our soldiers in all the military branches serving all over the world. May God see them home safely as soon as possible.

The simple most stupid military stategy a commander, at any level, could do is share his/her plan with the enemy.

Jeisikah, enlist, serve, then talk.

Now, does it interest ANYONE (it is hard to argue with FreeAmerica's explanation/analogy...and terrorists are WORSE than robbers.) that the Democratic leadership in Washington IS willing to give that information away?

Here's the sophisticated question to ask yourself: Why are they willing to kill that many guys?...Hmmmmm

I find it nauseating that the very people who disrespect our military the MOST is the LIBERAL DEMOCRATS who carry on and on about the "civilian body count" in Iraq or chant incessantly "Bush lied, troops died" or some other NONSENSE and then try and say the President is 'slapping the military in the face'?!?.

DEMOCRATS supported our decision to enter Iraq JUST as much as us mean and nasty ol' Republicans. Funny how quickly ya'll "forget" that (and do so WHENEVER it suits your needs....)

Then mabe you have a hard jaw.Not an insult, please do not take it that way.I saw a Army Soldier the other day at a place I deliver to.I walked up to HIM,stuck out my hand, said THANKYOU!!!No questions asked.Just THANKYOU!!!He was stuned.A look of why.Why I did what I did.Confused.Why is that? Why did he look at me dumbfounded?Should they feel like that? All I said was thank you for being a protecter of my freedoms. The things I hold dear to my heart. The things we as Americans take for granted.I was in the service in the 80's.Proudly.I'd do it again if I could pass the physical. That is why I am confused on why this Soldier acted the way he did.Do others feel the same way?Like they don't deserve a thankyou?Well, like it or not,I will say it to EVERY soldier I see.THANKYOU!!!

You may not understand it having not served but as a simple reminder the republicans have always been the party that supports the military from raises to the best equipment over the years. If you don't believe that then follow voting trends as the majority of military folks and their families vote republican and support our troops the greatest.

This by the way is fact, as well the point that liberals are by far the most two faced group I have ever heard saying exactly that we need to support our troops when it benefits them but then calling General Petreus a liar when all the leaders are trying to do is their job.

This is a very raw subject with many who are serving and have served so be careful where you tread with comments that this is what you heard. Air America and Move On are not the bible for the majority of America.

I've had several friends serve in Iraq (as they are career military - both Army and Marines - we're old guys in our 40's). They say the MAJORITY of Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen (or is it 'airpersons'?) STRONGLY believe in their mission in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Why do all the people (mainly liberals and Democrats) claim they want to "Support Our Troops" yet they bash the war effort?

Answer: because a Republican is in the White House

"Supporting the troops" means a LOT more than slapping a bumper sticker on your car.

Any of you liberals/Democrats send any care packages to the troops? I did....

Sorry, TheRealAmerican. The liberals "we support the troops but oppose the war" argument went into the crapper when the started insulting the good General and slandering his integrity.

WEll,guess what!We are at war!The begining of ww3.Sorry folks, its the truth. The problem is that it is not a traditional war.
And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who [is] like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Revelation 13:4-7

Well Chip, you are correct if the facts are true! Did He Really EARN any???Or was that a lie too?
Regarding Kerry's medals, there was an emotional ceremony on 23, 1971, in which about one thousand veterans who were against the Vietnam war shed their military medals by throwing them over a fence barricade onto the steps of the capitol building in Washington D.C.
One of them was John Kerry and it was thought that he had forsaken his Vietnam medals.
The 1988 issue of Current Biography Yearbook says that Kerry explained that the medals were not his but those of another veteran who asked him to throw them on his behalf.
Critics of John Kerry say he either created a false impression by throwing the borrowed medals or spent a long time letting a false impression remain before he admitted that he still had his medals.
Defenders say Kerry never misrepresented the medals because he did not claim that they were his and openly displays them in his office.

Like to read, a lot. Very observant of current events and spend (probably too much) time reading every news source I can get a hold of about current events. Non partisan. Pro logic, clarity between the way right and the way left. Like the Morning News a lot!
