Um, yes I do, in this case. Check out my interview with Deval Patrick on his relationship with Barack Obama, and why he says he will never give up his job to go to Washington - if Obama wins the White House, of course.

There is reason to be skeptical (remember Mitt Romney, Paul Cellucci, Bill Weld) when a governor promises he will run for reelection, but in this case I think the governor knows the damage he would do if he left before his first term was up.

Don't forget, he was elected with an historic mandate as Massachusetts' first black governor, and he knows what's happened to other governors who tried to go national too soon.

Do you believe Deval Patrick will stay in Massachusetts if Obama wins? Let me know if I am being too generous in believing he will.

Patrick will serve out his first term, probably run for a second term and win. Then in the first year or so of his second term, there will likely be a seat that opens up the Supreme Court, and Deval's new job title will be Justice Deval Patrick. Provided of course, that Obama doesn't find a way to blow the election.

ahumbleman,

I'm gonna give the citizens of the commonwealth a little credit here. NO way will Deval get elected again! Not gonna happen.

Joe,

I don't believe anything a politician says. I go by actions only.

sirB,

My first inclination would be to agree with you, but then I realized that the Republican party here is a complete joke. It's still a little early, but there isn't anyone on the Republican side right now who represents a serious threat to Deval. If he wants a second term, he has probably got it.

ahumbleman,

What if Muffy decides to run again? I think she'll get in as Gov.

I hope you're wrong.

Muffy isn't even liked by everyone in her own party, couple that with the fact that she's never won a statewide election on her own and she's been non-existent since Deval took office and I would seriously doubt it.

Humbleman, Please come over with some of that stuff your smoking. Patrick on the Supreme Court? He won't get a second term (Please Lord Please)I'd rather see Roger Clemens as Gov and Judge Judy on the bench.

I'd put his odds at getting a second term (if he wanted it) at about 60 percent. Who is going to run against him? The Massachusetts Republican party is practically non-existent. There is exactly ONE high-profile Republican in Massachusetts who could take on Deval Patrick and conceivably win, and that's Charlie Baker CEO of Harvard Pilgrim. He might not want to take the pay cut to run for Governor, and even if he did run, he's the CEO of a health insurance company, there's a million things the Dems could throw at him and a good number would stick.

I do not know why Mass. voters get so upset with a one term Politian. Just look at what the career politicians have done to your state and your tax base.

They should all hold office for only one term.

Massachusetts is a staunch Democratic State. If Homer Simpson were the only Dem running for office against a Republican, they'd vote for him!

MA has a deep-rooted, good ol' boy, tradition that you vote Party no matter what. You'd think they'd start using some logic by now, but they seems to be brainwashed into believing Democrats can do no wrong...even though, they do wrong over and over again. When a State keeps voting in someone like Kennedy after all the embarrassments he has caused us, I'd say we can expect more of the same when it comes to a Governor that has failed us.

And, if you think Patrick would bypass the chance to step into the Washington limelight for little ol' us, you're dreaming! Every politician has a goal...and it heads in the direction of WA.

I met Deval a year before the election. He spoke of change and hope. His vision for a better Massachusetts has never faltered. His first year in office was a rough one but with a little luck and support from those of us that voted for him he will do what he promised he would do. Let us not forget that Deval works for us. If there is a problem with his leadership we need to let him know. You do know that you do have the right to visit the State House to speak with your Representatives and Senators. The only way Massachusetts will thrive again is if we share our concerns.

Very sensible advice from gtownie. If people were more involved in voting and holding politicians accountable, we'd be a lot better off. The governor does work for you - and that goes for all of them. Don't let them forget that.
