Is that what the President and John McCain are trying to do? Their recent comments about "appeasing" terrorists seem to me like they're aimed at Obama. It also seems like it might be first salvo in election strategy to make Obama seem inexperienced and naive.

Do you agree with this? Or is President Bush going over the line? Let me know. I think you'll be hearing a lot more about this in the fall.

Oh yeah, Hillary's still in the race. Just in case you were wondering.

If Obama thinks those comments were directed at him, then he obviously finds some type of credence in the content.
By the way, Obama is inexperienced and naive of foreign affairs. He's the one that is trying to legitimize the demands of terrorists by saying he would meet with them. If that doesn't show inexperience, then I don't know what does. He's weak on defense. No one questions his willingness to cut and run. But do we really need our enemies to meet this man to find out face to face just how weak he is? Hillary is the only democrat candidate with a set of balls.

Joe, It really doesn't take very much to make Obama look inexperienced and naive. Happyg, I said from day one that Hillary is the only one out there that could make the rest of the world have some respect for the USA again. My crystal ball tells me if McCain gets in, be prepared to have his VP finish the term.

Well, it's a presidential election year and it's tacit that GWB remarks at the Israeli parliament were in reference to Obama and former president Carter. So Obama thought correctly. These Bush remarks were over the line! As for terrorism, let's be honest; both Hamas and Israel are guilty. Israel does it from the air and Hamas from the ground. The reason that Hamas ( duly elected ) is labeled terrorist and it sticks is because full scale hostilities between Israel and adjacent Arab countries ended many years ago. Let's not try to fool anyone with this! As Ralph Nader, my idol, has said time and time again, security for Israel, but justice for the Palestinians.

If Bush thinks his comments won't be evaluated domestically through the context of the 2008 election, he's less informed than I think. People think he was just talking to his audience where he spoke?

The president never speaks in a vacuum. Since he's already said he supports McCain in the election, comments like he made on Israel will be become an election issue. It's naive to think otherwise.

When was the last time someone from Israel strapped on a bomb pack and headed into a crowd of innocents? Isreal has Hamas on one end and Hezbollah on the other each spreading their carnage. If you pointed your missiles at me, you had better know damn well that I'm coming to take them down. The Israelis long ago made it clear that until these types of attacks stopped, payback would be three-fold. It works for me. If the Palestinians really were concerned about the "land" they lost, they'd be attacking Jordan. They got most of it.

If Obama is going to be painted as inexperienced and naive, then I guess John McCain is too given that he said in an interview three years ago that the U.S. diplomats should work with Hamas.

Obama is inexperienced and naive. Are we expected to forget what Obama has said? Why is it when someone points out the weaknesses of an opponent it is called an attack. I call it an education. The uninformed voter needs to be made aware of the person they are expected to vote for as President.

I suppose we should not point out his sexist comment “sweetie” toward a reporter either.

Experience is a curious thing. Bush had an extremely respected and experienced team when he took over and they produced the least successful foreign policy the country has ever seen. As for being naive, well, what is it called when your defense secretary thinks a short-handed and inadequately armed military can fight what is billed as a war against an existential (look it up, Happyg) threat?

And this should address the question of Iranian influence in Iraq...

You seem worried about Ethiopia. It's more stable than other countries around it but it's not a hotbed of Al Qaeda activity. We are helping them a lot, though.

FisherCat, thanks for reminding me that we control the oil in Iraq and the Middle East. It's only up $100 since Bush took office. I'm glad it's not out of our control.

Oh, the Caliphate. YAWN.

Time will tell Matty. We do know for sure that Carter's failures have caused great harm to this country and her allies. What the next President does in Iraq will decide what the future brings. One thing's for sure, if we "cut and run" again from Iraq, it will be a hundred years before we find any allies in a country we had to invade to maintain our security. But again Matty, you knew that too!

MattyG we are helping Ethiopia becuase Clinton didn't have the conviction to stay an take out Al Qaeda in Somalia....now they have taken over their government...oh and inadequate? that was Les Aspirin an Oakley who didn't think we needed a armour on the ground in Somalia thats a fact jack! NO U.S.SARMOUR AT ALL!!!! an again Clinton left President Bush sh_t storm...and caused 9/11 by attacking Iraq on DECEMBER 17TH 1998 with in days he got his P.D.B. that said Al Qaeda was going to hijack airliners...plus the intelligence on the Bojinka Plot...an by February Bin Ladin issued his FATWAH an also gave the go to the Boston 9/11 CELL AN all others to go forward with the plot to hijack the planes....by Clintons vacation in the Finger lakes he issued 5 executive orders to seize Al Qaeda funds an thats about all..Paper Tiger...by August Bin laden made a deal with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to take down this country...then Clinton with his excuse of NO PROBABLE CAUSE to get Bin Ladin with the 1998 Indictment of the 93 WTC attack plus 2 Embassies plus Khobar Towers plus the U.S.S.COLE Clinton caused this mess!

Happyg, we don't know that about Carter because it's not true. You made it up. The current occupant of the White House has hurt us much more than Carter ever did. We have allies in Iraq? You are kidding. The current occupant of the White House doesn't even have enough integrity to protect the Iraqis who helped us. You're living in a fantasy world if you think we'll have a viable ally in Iraq in either of our lives.

Fishykitty...try to go one day without blaming Clinton for Bush's arsonous foreign policy. We didn't go to Somalia to get Al Qaeda. We probably didn't know they were there. Imagine if Bush read the P.D.B. Condi presented to him in 2001. Being intellectually curious might have saved a lot of lives.

Chip, he meant Obama but is too much of a coward to say it. Even Peggy Noonan said it's directed at Obama. Obama didn't admit anything because what he said isn't true as it pertains to Obama.

Bush's remarks are available at whitehouse.gov.

Here's the kicker...Assuming it's an authentic quote, the Hitler quote Bush used was uttered by a Republican! A Republican appeaser! Wasn't the last time...

MattyG,

Neither George Bush, nor John McCain have had a problem being specific with their opinions. But, frankly, had either of them said Barack Obama was supporting terrorism with his policy to wholoesale retreat fropm Iraq, I'd have agreed. Whether it is nice to hear, it is true.
