We all know about Ted Kennedy's long and storied - and occasionally sullied - political career. But let me add a few things about Kennedy as a person.

Kennedy has always treated me with respect and yes, even kindness - more than I can say about most other politicians.  But assuming he recovers from this latest scare, it may be time for Ted Kennedy to focus on his health rather than politics.

I've noticed in the past few years how his back pain has made it difficult for him to walk, and now there are more serious concerns. So senator, I hope you get out of that hospital soon, but it might be time to cut back on the campaigning and Senate hearings, and get better.

So what do you think? Will this health scare force Kennedy to maybe consider retiring after 45 years? I doubt it will happen myself, but let me know.

The only problem with him retiring is there is another Kennedy waiting in the wing for sure...Hey whats up with Patricks hand being all bandaged up another Nyquil driving incident? or a tennis injury? I saw he had it all bandaged as he greeted Caroline at the Massachusetts General Hospital today....

Joe, I get the feeling that Ted Kennedy is one of those people that just can't retire on their own. Sure, he'll probably SAY he'll think about it to quiet his family down, but I don't see the guy retiring unless he gets voted out of Senate.

Retire?! No way - his ego won't allow that.

He will retire just in time to try to give the seat to Duh-val.

And Joe, you are right, he is a very very nice man...whose head is up his but from a public policy perspective.

Kennedy may be kind - but his long battle with alcoholism is likely the cause of his seizures, and nobody's even touched this topic. Alcoholics suffer seizures - it's old news. As a recovering drunk myself I can vouch that it's a common problem...

If he gets thru this, I doubt he'll want to retire from politics. Politics is his life and its the reason he gets up in the morning.

(And, whizzboom...congrats on your sobriety!)

I'm from the Midwest and consider ole Teddy the Keith Richards of Politics...

Don't always agree with the man, but admire his iron determination.

If keith richards can resume a world rock tour after a fall on the head? I think Ted can still handle a senate hearing or two. Doubt if this even slows him down much..

I can not wait for him to get out of office.
I don't wish harm on anyone, I just think he is useless.
A limit needs to be set here.

It amazes me that people want a man who is a TRUE LEADER in the US Senate. He has NEVER been afraid to fight for a "little guy", or attempt to end the bigotry in our country. No I do not always agree with him, but watch and listen to what the Republican colleagues are saying about him.

prayers will be said in mass, may 21st 2008, for a speedy recovery for Sen. Ted Kennedy at Our Lady of Good Voyage (the waterfront chapel). All Are Welcome.

Serving in senate should be regarded as a service to our country. Sen. Kennedy has always been focused on this and as long as he feels up to it I believe it is the best thing for his health. Giving back and positve recognition can only elongate his life. Giving up on your purpose is not the right choice.
