It's all anyone is talking about at the State House - Gov. Deval Patrick's 18 year old daughter says she is a lesbian - with the family's backing.

Now, the first question is, is this even a public matter? Yes, it is, because the governor's office was the one that put the story out - really orchestrated it, in fact.

Patrick and his family gave an exclusive interview to Bay Windows talking about it, saying they wanted to prevent a "gotcha" story coming out.

I agree with the governor. He and his family are public by nature of his position, especially on a big issue like gay rights. Does it have any impact politically? I doubt it. Patrick was for gay marriage before his daughter came out. If anything people will give him and his family credit for talking about it openly.

what's your view? Let me know.

18 years old? "says" she is gay? Does Deval realize the the kids these days think it's "cool" to be gay? I hope for his sake that this story does not keep repeating in the news cycle because it is possible that the daughter may change her mind.

Quite frankly, I don't care about an eighteen year old's sexual preference. As a mother of 3 grown adults, I know that one of my children was exploring herself back then. What will be will be. I care about what the Governor does, not his children's sexuality. Give it a rest. Once again, I am in agreement with Jakethecar. She just may change her mind tomorrow!

This is all they are talking about at the State House??!! Well, now I'm SERIOUSLY worried about us. This is a non-issue. They should be talking about other things. I can provide a list, if they'd like.

Who cares?? Great, now that whole community will come out and tell us what a great govenor Patrick is! I'm sure Rosie O. will weigh in on this issue and many others will tell us that Patrick is a real hero!!!

Did anyone forget that homosexuality is just wrong?? It doesn't matter whether or not you're "born" that way, it's just wrong!!!! WRONG!!!

What June said...wow. this is all they have to discuss?

And public or not...its irrelevant. So what if he loves his daughter...it only qualifies him to be father...not governor.

Coming from an out and proud lesbian, coming out is a huge decision, and it's not easy. Most gay people would tell you they didn't decide to be gay because it is cool. In fact, I like most gay people feel that is not a choice. The only choice I had was whether or not too accept myself. That said, who are we to say if she will change her mind and quite frankly, what difference does it make? She has probably been battling with the choice of "come out or don't come out" for quite sometime, and her personal decision to come out is brave; his daughter is lucky to know that her parents love her regardless of her sexuality. I try not to get too involved with politics, but I do not think that Deval Patrick should be criticized as politician for his acceptance of his daughter. I applaud Deval Patrick as a father for putting the story out and supporting his daughter. My hope is that someday people will realize that sexuality doesn't change who you are as a person, it is not a choice, or something you can change, and it is none of our business who is and who isn't-even if they are a public figure, or related to one.

JPV, Yes this is all Rosie has to do run from state to state fighting everyone's Gay issue. Who died and made you Queen of right and wrong. Your lives fell apart since Gay marriages have become legal in this state. Yes I was born Gay believe it or not and 99% of my life this is a non issue. When at the age of 19 I came out to my family and got their acceptance the rest of the worlds opinion no longer mattered to me. Last Summer I attended my Nieces wedding to another women. My brother made an affair of over 150 people. My brother invited realitives and friends he's known a lifetime. It was a traditional Jewish wedding performed by a Rabbi. People have to get over this as an issue. Worry about $4.00 a gal gas, the war, the fact that you can't even buy a house or sell it for that matter. These are matters that you should worry about. I don't like the Gov, but it was long before I knew he had a Lesbian for a daughter, I don't like Dick Cheney either and it has nothing to do with his Gay daughter. I asked my brother what he thought when his daughter told him she was Gay? He said she's my daughter and I love her. So for all you folks so up tight about this issue, GET OVER IT. Put on your pretty dress and come out this week-end and help celebrate Gay Pride. Look for me, I'll be the one with my mother pearl necklace. (KIDDING)

Hey fenwaydav, I guess your motto through life is--As long as it feels good, then do it, right?? Well where should we draw the line?? Why not have 2 or 3 partners then?? Why stop there??

Yes, we should be concerned about $4 gas and the war.

You say that you were born being gay?? I'm sure that that is possible. I'm sure that thousands of child molesters also say that they are "born" that way! Maybe we should change the laws for all the child molesters out there too! I mean, they're born that way too, right??

OF COURSE NOT!!! We all have battles in our lives that we are born with, but trying to justify our problems like that still doesn't make them right.

By the way, I think comparing those two issues are similar. They're both sexual problems; however, one has a much greater effect on others than the other. But it's still all wrong!

It seems like homosexuality is becoming a choice now among so many, so please don't tell me that you were "born" that way. How are you born that way?? Being a straight man, I can remember not liking girls when I was 6-7 years old. Does that make one homosexual?? No, that makes them normal. Boys never want anything to do with girls at that age, but you interpret that to being homosexual.

Anyway, my heart goes out to you and all the alternative lifestyle people out there. It must help that the state helps you justify your lifestyle choice so that you don't feel like you're doing anything wrong.

Ok,

JPV, you just lost credibility when you said the following:

"You say that you were born being gay?? I'm sure that that is possible. I'm sure that thousands of child molesters also say that they are "born" that way! Maybe we should change the laws for all the child molesters out there too! I mean, they're born that way too, right??"

At this point, crawl back in your hole, you moron. To compare a sick act of violence such as child molesting or rape of any kind to two people who are in love making the conscious choice to be together regardless of their gender is probably the most ignorant thing I've ever heard. I suggest you stop talking at this point instead of making yourself look more stupid.

How do you know how good it feels? Do you speak from experience? It's none of your business how many sex partners I have. Just like I care less who and how many partners you have. I can't speak for any child molester as that is not my scene. Most of the men arrested for discusting acts like that are straight. I think you will find as people respond to this blog you wind up looking like the sick one. 2 more things. To respond to any more of your hatred would be irresponsible on my part so I won't, and Please keep your heart I don't need it.

JuneinMA, I appreciate your opinion on my opinions. Don't get me wrong, any crime against a child is terrible, and the criminal should be publicly hanged and or worse.

My point is simply that many homosexuals and many child molesters say that they are "born" this way. Yet we cater to the homosexuals because they are consentual.

With homosexuals allowed to marry, this state clearly took an opportunity to stop letting people define what marriage is supposed to be and opened the door for an "anything goes" lifestyle for all.

Maybe someday a man will want to marry his own brother or sister. WHY NOT?? If it's consenual, and they're not hurting anyone, then why shouldn't they be able to?

Maybe some a person will want to marry his pet or a farm animal. WHY NOT?? He's not hurting anyone??

Maybe more will become like the Mormons who have more than one spouse. WHY NOT?? Again, if everyone is consenual, and it feels good, then why not do it???

And by the way, it does hurt others. Look at the example in the Lexington school system about a year ago when the teacher took it upon his/her self to read a book to a 1st or 2nd grade class that was clearly teaching about homosexual lifestyles. Turn the TV on for 5 minutes. You can't avoid the homosexuality issue simply watching the news or a sitcom or anything anymore.

In conclusion, we need to get ourselves back to a time where morals were important!!

FenwayDav, How do I know how good it feels?? Well, to be straight it feels good, but you wouldn't be gay if you thought it felt bad, would you?? You wouldn't involve yourself with another homosexual if it felt bad, would you?? OF COURSE NOT!!! Obviously, it feels good or else you wouldn't do it! I can speak from experience in the sense that often times something that is wrong can feel good, right??? It doesn't matter whether or not it's about being gay!

Ever consider how all the pleasure of life can sometimes end with serious consequences?? People eat too much, they get morbidly obese. People drink or do too many drugs, they could die. People have too much sex, they get STDs!!

Also, don't get me wrong, I don't HATE anyone. Hating is not the right answer to anything; violence is not the right answer to anything. If someone commits a hate crime, in no way, is that every the right answer.

People that are living unacceptable lifestyles should turn their lives around, that's the answer! But instead of turning their lives around, they complain and protest until the country or state gives in and considers their lifestyle which was previously wrong, to be acceptable and loved by all!

Why is this news? Why do I want to know the Governor's daughter is lesbian?

Let's just have parade because another gay or lesbian comes out. Let's just forget the values that made the once great state, good. No longer. We have gone so far into the enabling mind set, we are doomed.

I want to know why the Gay and Lesbian society feels the need to highjack Father's Day. This is just more "in your face BLEEP. And they wonder why most of the country ran to ban same-sex marriages. It wasn't about not allowing equal rights to all citizens, it was the "up yours", radical agenda that offended most. Even a large portion of the homosexual community, since because of actions like these, they still don't have visitation or survivors rights that are long overdue.

Jailer49 with thoughts like that you are doomed. It's Gay and Lesbians that Masacheusetts isn't the once great state. I don't know what your smoking, but the greatness or not greatness of this state has nothing to do with what that. Doomed, you ought to be a shamed of yourself.
And Happyg I thought you had a better mind set than that. The Gay Pride Parade wasn't just planned yesterday. This goes on every year at the same time. How your fathers day will be hijacked is beyond me????? You can roast your weenies with no interference from us.

"Anyway, my heart goes out to you and all the alternative lifestyle people out there. It must help that the state helps you justify your lifestyle choice so that you don't feel like you're doing anything wrong." JPV who gave you the authority to tell people that they are wrong?! I hope you realize that homosexuality has been around longer than you have, and for your sake I hope that you will wake up and realize that you are way out of bounds. Comparing homosexuality to incest, and sexual predators? I can tell that you are petrified of anything or anyone different, I feel sorry for you having such intense fear that it comes across like it does. My heart goes out to you and a side note-I chose to be gay the same day you chose to be straight. I would rather accept myself and love freely then be trapped by the shame you wish to make me feel. If I have to face ignorance from people like you everyday, I would rather say that I did so unafraid. Happyg you said "And they wonder why most of the country ran to ban same-sex marriages. It wasn't about not allowing equal rights to all citizens, it was the "up yours", radical agenda that offended most." Happyg I have no business in saying if you should you be allowed to be legally married but you make it your business to say that I shouldn't, and that gay marriage offends people. Well I have news for you, different music offends people, different clothing styles, hair styles, language, SKIN COLOR. I would like to think that we as human beings can see through our differences to the person that is under the surface.

Fenway, the G&L Pride Parades in the past have been on Saturdays.(2005,2006,2007) Like I said, it's more "in your face" activity. Not real helpful in the longrun.

To Fenway, please accept my spology. I was led to believe that the parade was scheduled on Sunday this year, instead of on Saturdays as in the past. I feel much better now that it won't interfere as I 'roast my weenies'.

On the day before radical Mass judges "created" new law here in Massachusetts, each and every citizen had EXACTLY the same marital rights. From the beginning I've been an advocate of civil ceremonies which would give G&L couples the same maritial rights as all heterosexual couples. Before you start typing, I do understand the other ramifications related to the use of the terminology "marriage" and the national and international effects the word has on many existing laws and benefits. Given the right atmosphere, there is no doubt that they also could have been mitigated. Instead, a small portion of the G&L society decided that it really wasn't about "equal rights for all", it was about "we're here, we're queer, get used to it." Now you may find what I've posted as offensive, but to this day there are many loving G&L couples who are still denied these benefits because of a few with a radical "in your face" agenda. More often than not, in my conversations with G&L's, the overwhelming concensus was that 'they didn't care what it was called, as long as they got all the benefits'. You see, they already had all the rights.
