If you haven't seen the explosive new cover of the New Yorker, check it out here - Michelle Obama dressed as a terrorist and Barack in full Muslim garb. Oh yeah, there's a flag burning in the fireplace over a picture of Osama Bin Laden.
Predictably, Obama and John McCain are denouncing this cover as tasteless and offensive.
But what it really is, is SATIRE, people. It's meant to mock those clueless people who still circulate emails saying Obama is a Muslim and that fist-bump with Michelle is a terrorist sign.
The lesson here is, I guess you just can't do satire anymore - at least not without upsetting too many people. Do you think this cover is offensive or just a clever attempt at satire? Let us know.

HA HA HA!!!

Hilarious! That's what it is.

Could be some sort of a scare tactic for the "clueless" people.

Now Joe, its not that you can't do satire...its that you can't do it about a liberal icon like Senator Obama. Now if it was someone like Senator McCain and his wife, then it would be acceptable because of free speech.

Uh, this is hilarious. But not as hilarious as that e-mail that's still making the rounds that claims that when Obama was sworn in to the Senate, he wasn't sworn in with a Bible, but with a Koran. Then again, I'm sure the people who believe that crap don't think this is funny- They probably think it proves the e-mail's claims.

For those who are offended, LIGHTEN UP! There's probably plenty about the candidate that you can be offended by...Stick with the FACTS that are offensive, not the satire.

Run out and buy this issue for the kids and grand kids. Someday in the not to distant future,(25-50 years from now) someone will have this on Antique Roadshow. The appraiser will say that most were burned and the few remaining are worth about half a million. Minus the garb, I have visions of the Obama's high fiving each other through out the White House.

I'm telling you all. What your seeing is a well orchrestrated remake of the Sting. Obama's handlers are veterans of losing campaigns. They know the mistakes that they made and with Obama they are trying to short circuit all that could go wrong. This characterture will do nothing but lessen the impact of the impending 527 ads which will honestly question both his past associates and his heritage. For America's sake, we need to demand that Obama hold true to his original offer to campaign alongside McCain. Only then will America then see the shortcommings of the new tanned messiah.

Who cares? Obama is a public figure running for President. He crows about change, says hateful things about Reublicans, but can't take this? He better man-up and grow a pair if he wants to be an effective president!

I think that this is a free advertising ploy by certain people/companies.

I can't wait for the video...

Is this free advertising at its best?
Entertaining to some, offensive to others.

When do we see Joe 6-Pack running for President?

If there wasn't a shred of truth in it....it wouldn't be satire, right? THAT, kids, is the scarey part.

I think this is clearly a clever attempt at satire. In no way am I offended by this in fact these type of racy images continue to float around because it is what sells, especially when we look at the medium of printing. Lets make it clear just like Spiro Agnew once said the media chooses what they want to depict and express to the general public. What we really should be questioning here is how public opinion is addressed in accordance to the media?

I think this is clearly a clever attempt at satire. In no way was I offended by this racy image. These are the types of things we expect from a medium especially when dealing with printings. Lets face it the media overall chooses what to address to the general public and they only look to express ideas and opinions that they feel are relative to making money. Whatever sells is what will be reported and or depicted. Like Spiro Agnew once said where do we draw the line for censorship, because clearly when the government gets involved with the press or any type of media we are no longer on the lines of libertariansm, instead we become more authoratative. I feel that we need to be more open and be acceptive to these comical images than just jump all over and think wow here we go again with subliminal messages about Mr. Obama and his wife.

I'm assuming nobody from Fox will read this but I'll have my say nonetheless.

Happyg represents the small yet noisy minority of Americans who buy all of the unfounded rumors floating around about Barack Obama. His name, face and upbringing is different from what we're used to so that makes him unacceptable to Happyg as a potential leader. The idea that Obama's new perspective on our government could improve the country is totally lost on the Happyg's of the world.

The New Yorker cover isn't the problem, it indicates that there is a problem. Happyg's comments prove the point the cover was making. Happyg mentions the 527 ads that will question Obama's "heritage". Since when has someone's heritage been a campaign issue?

A good portion of contributors to the myfoxboston.com blogs and boards believe this crap about Obama. The local Fox news teams in Boston can treat this as a chance to educate potential voters about a man who might be our president.

The nice thing about this cartoon is the way that it backfired.

It was meant to insult the American right for circulating rumors about the Obama's.

Instead, a snooty, left-wing magazine offended the politically correct left.

This is the kind of thing I would like to see more of.

Thank God, MattyG. My real fear was that the shred of truth was that they were in the Oval Office. Thank you for the reassurance!!! As long as those two losers are "fist bumping" in Chicago, I'm a happy camper. (Or is that ah HappyG camper....huh.)

Its amazing to me how the ALL MEDIA in the United States took a [HANDS OFF] to the banned Muslims Cartoons depicting Muslims with Bombs as Turbin's an other depictions yet in this case they had no problem re-printing an showing this depiction on the TV NEWS MEDIA OUTLETS....whats up with that? So the real terrorist won! they cam make dispersions on Christians an Jews AN GET A PASS yet this Obama depiction gets broad-casted and re-printed through the United States....

Matty,
Not all Matty, but certainly some. In the message board section I posted a portion of a blog from the Chicagofox network. It references Obama's "evolution" in Chicago politics. Maybe no one's told you Matty, but Chicago is the hub of organized crime in this nation. It's interesting reading Matty, and also makes it clear that the normal readers should also do their own follow-up. I know the word "normal" will disqualify you, but you should give it a read none-the-less.

It would be funny if it wasnt true and that is soo very sad and scary at the same time. If that man becomes president the US is doomed and everyone should know that. It purely depicts the truth
