It's almost time, the stadium at Mile HIgh is nearly filled up, and Sheryl Crow is singing.
But the real question is can Barack Obama meet expectations for tonight's big acceptance speech? He has some good lines attacking John McCain but can he really connect with middle America as a human being - not just a rock star candidate?
That's the real challenge the way I see it. What do you think? Let me know before and after the speech what you think

Some media people have reported Obama's aides have been trying to lower expectations. I'm not sure he can match Bill's effort from last night. He'll be better than any Republican next week.

The Dems just love to waste money like they did tonight with the huge event with fireworks display and everything. Was that really necessary? I think Obama gave a great speech like he always does but I thought it was way over the top. Im sure he was enjoying all the attention he was getting as he continue to feed his ego during the speech.

Joe,That dog and pony show was a great example of what is wrong with the Democrats.Their Motto should be Spend,Spend, and Spend some more.I wonder how much money they spent to have that his speech in that stadium. What a waste.

Who cares?! Hype what the heck is hype anyway? Misplaced false expectations.

Kelldog, I'm afraid not. If you listened to the speech last night and payed attention you would see that Obama's tax cuts, "TAX CUT's" will fare much better than what McCain is proposing for the middle class. That's not Hype! Let me remind you that it is the Republican party of the last 8 years who SQUANDERED the largest government surplus in history putting this country further into deficit. The republicans have provided tax cuts for the wealthiest and big industry but there is not one trace of a measurable trickle down effect. None whatsoever! Our economy is strained and in recession because of reckless republican spending. Wake up the evidence isn't hard to find! The dollar is weak, prices are up because the republicans have spent, spent, spent and (y)our futures have been rubber stamped to pay for such LIES that were orchestrated by Bush/Republican administration to pay for his war. It is ironic that you are arguing the steroetypical claim that dems spend more when the evidence of the last 8 years suggests otherwise. Oh and if you have been following campaign finance much of the funds used to pay for the DNC were raised largely in private donations. Get your facts straight!

Joe, I think he could and did convince a lot of dems, independents and republican voters that Obama is the right man for this time and job. Nobody can cap what specifically the next for 4 years will be like but he got specific enough in the 48 minutes he had to speak to cap what things need to be done first in that time. Like he said it won't be easy and it will take time. The only obstacle we now face is a majority of republican administration and supporters to acknowlege that there is a problem that they are responsible for creating. Oh and Captain good to see you back up and seeing that it was a speech geared towards all Americans I CARE what both candidates say when so much is at stake. The only thing that is misplaced is the republican majority who sees another picture about the state of this nation.

I watched the DNC the last 3 nights. The message I got from all the speeches was, "vote for Obama, he's a miracle worker".

Reason Guy,
The dems overspent and ran up the deficeit when they had control of both congress and the white house. The republicans did the same when they had full control.
Change ! Thats all you will have in your pockets if the Dems have full control again. Ear-marks are the problem, and both parties abuse them. McCain is against earmarks. Congress has been controlled for the last 2 years by the dems and they have done nothing. Pelosi won't even allow a vote for off shore drilling !

Nomorehacks, Could you be anymore vague? McCain is no where near being a fiscal conservative nor could he even attempt to convince the country he is. He will spend more money where it is not going to do the American public on this soil any good. Quid-pro-quo, nothing happens over night. The fact that the republicans lost the house majority in 2006 says something about their leadership style and it didn't happen overnight mind you. Voters were recognizing the abuses of power in their practices of catering to the lobbyists and special interests, set by the example in the White House which is why they lost control and stand to loose even more seats very soon. You are a fool to think that offshore drilling will affect oil prices in the way you think. The infrastructure for these platforms do not exist yet. They are not built yet and will cost big oil companies a significant investment. Oil companies made record profits during the surge in prices. What makes you think that they are going to spend billions to off set the price of a gallon of gas a few pennies for such a short term investment? The numbers won't add up even if you factor in the extra tax breaks McCain and the republicans intend to give to big oil and have been doing for years. More breaks for big oil and no trickle down effect is worth the investment and what you would get. This belief that offshore drilling is going to ease prices as a solution, concocted by republican strategists and lobbyists is nothing more than a political smoke screen for the uneducated masses to get votes in the shadow if repub

Joe
The DNC convention is over. Now comes the test. Can Obama stand up to Bill O'Rielly on Fox.
We need an open discourse on Obamas associations, his mentors, his Chicago Political roots, and the effect they have had on Obamas value systems.
