Dems Going Too Far!
Oct 13, 2008 | 6:21 PM PST

Have you seen these t-shirts some Democrats are wearing using a vulgar term to describe Sarah Palin? (I won't show you the images here but just imagine the worst word you can use).
These morons are just as bad as those people showing up at McCain rallies claiming Obama is a Muslim terrorist because they read it on the internet.
Now, Joe Biden is crossing the line. At a rally in New Hampshiire, he used words like "unsteady hand" and "erratic" to describe John McCain - which sounds to me like he's pointing attention to his age.
I've also seen various bogus emails being sent around making ridiculous claims about McCain. So Democrats, if you're complaining about the tone of the campaign, make sure you include your own party as well.
Do you think these tactics are going too far? Or is it just politics as usual?
Sorry, McCain, Not this Time

John McCain really needed to win Tuesday night's debate and he didn't.
I give Obama the edge, especially after McCain called Obama "that one" instead of referring to him by name. That's the kind of thing that turns people off.
Also I noticed Obama seemed more comfortable talking to voters on stage and even stayed long after the debate to chat with them. McCain leftt.
So on style and substance, this debate was a lost opportunity for McCain.
That's just what I think - I'd rather hear what everyone else has to say. Did Obama take another step toward the White House tonight?
Isn't it great how Congress finally came together to bail out Wall Street? Wasn't that bill supposed to prevent the financial crisis from getting worse?
Wall Stree't's response so far has been a big .$!&?! you!!
How come we don't see lawmakers parading around any more making patriotic speeches about putting the country first?
It's because they've just made things even worse, as usual. The stock market has dropped by about 1,000 points since Congress finally passed that bailout bill.
Thanks a lot guys! Job well done.
Those lawmakers like Rep. Stephen Lynch who resisted the pressure to support the bill are looking pretty good now. Think Lynch could launch a statewide campaign based on this vote?
I do. What do you think?
My colleague Bob Ward actually came up with this, but said I could take credit for it, so here goes: "You betcha" is the new catch phrase of the 2008 campaign, replacing "Change is Coming" and if you go way back to 1984, "Where's the beef?"
It was hard not to miss Sarah Palin's attempts to use her plain spoken style to connect to viewers during Thursday's debate, but did it work? I thought it was a little overdone, but many voters love it when candidates speak like them and not like a Washington blowhard.
So on style points, Palin won the debate. On strictly debating points, Biden clearly won because he was more articulate and knowledgable. But that doesn't win elections.
With Palin getting past this debate, it's time for her handlers to let her loose and stop hiding her! Let Sarah be Sarah and start doing local interviews (Fox 25 would be great).
what do you think? Should McCain's campaign take the reins off Palin now? I hope so
Who Will Win the Veep Debate?

Will Joe Biden claim he watched Teddy Roosevelt on TV talk about the Great Depression?
Will Sarah Palin coin a new term, "Moose in the Headlights?"
What do you think will happen the much-anticipated vice presidential debate Thursday night? I know i'm looking forward to this more than the presidential showdown last week.
I also know that Biden and Palin are both capable of some major gaffes, judging by their performance the last few weeks.
what happened to Palin? Has she lost her confidence or is she just being badgered by the media?
I think if she flops Thursday night McCain is in huge trouble. Look for at least one big gaffe from each candidate - that's my prediction. Who do you think will win? Let us know.

That is easily the worst debate line I've ever heard. Adm.
Stockdale became a political joke after he uttered it in 1992.
What is your favorite debate moment? Check out my review of recent gaffes,
blunders and great lines in debate history. Some of them are pretty funny.
The biggest gaffe, in my view, is one I personally witnessed at UCLA 20 years
ago. Michael Dukakis was handed a golden opportunity to show emotion, asked
theoretically whether he would favor capital punishment for his wife's rapist.
The easy answer? "Well, of course I would probably want to strangle him
myself."
Dukakis showed no emotion and just said no he wouldn't change his mind.
Ugh.
Right there, I turned to another reporter and said, "This election is
over." And it was.
Second place goes to Al Gore's incessant sighing. It annoyed almost every voter
in America.
Let me know what your favorite debate line is.
A Stunt or Smart Move?

Has John McCain pulled another Palin?
HIs decision to suspend his campaign has definitely thrown the Obama campaign for a loop once again, but will it prove smart?
Obviously there is political calculation in McCain's move. Yes, what the nation needs is bipartisanship, but c'mon, neither he nor Obama has showed much leadership during this crisis.
But it probably will seem like a reasonable thing to the public to suspend campaigning, considering all the dire warnings about the economy collapsing. Obama's initial reaction - to resist and say there should be a debate Friday night - is not surprising. He has a little stubborn streak but it could leave him open to criticism that he's placing politics over his country.
Has McCain stolen Obama's issue again? Will it backfire? Let me know

Who would have ever thought that "lipstick on a pig" would become the most talked about phrase on the campaign trail?
Just to update, Obama is now claiming Republicans seized on his "innocent remark" to make it look like he was smearing Sarah Palin. Unfortunately for him, the damage is already done.
Here's some advice for Obama: Do not say anything, even a joke, that could allow Republicans to say you are being sexist against Palin. Whether he was referring to Palin or not in the "lipstick" joke, this is dumb, dumb dumb!
Obama has basically not done anything right since his convention speech. Remind you of anyone? Oh yeah, Dukakis and Kerry!
Do you think the lipstick controversy will help end Obama's campaign? Or is he being unfairly maligned? Please discuss
The Bun is Back!

No, this is not another endorsement of Big Macs!
The bun we're talking about is the hairstyle on Sarah Palin's head - and right now she is threatening to make it fashionable again.
No question she is a phenom right now (check out the new superhero doll) but will it last? Once the questions start coming, will she be able to handle it? What about her views on abortion (which are right of McCain and even Romney?) What about her Pentecostal religion?
Looks to me like she can handle the pressure, but what do you think? Will Palin's bubble burst or will she become the force that rockets McCain to the White House?
Did McCain Nail It?

He was no Barack Obama, and definitely no Sarah Palin, but John McCain did the best he could last night here in St. Paul to make his case.
I have a little different perspective being in the arena during his speech, and could feel the emotion in the crowd when McCain was talking about his years as a POW and love of country.
But this was no barn-burner speech that Obama gave - a much different tone even inside the Xcel Center. He was more subdued, even kindly at times. I think this was a smart strategy, rather than try to be tough like Obama.
What do you think? Palin scored a hat trick, did McCain at least score a couple times last night?
I'm anxious to hear from those who saw this from their homes.

Raising McCain

Can John McCain possibly rise to the level of his running mate tonite?
Uh, no. Very unlikely. But it is likely he will deliver a very good speech and he has a great personal story to tell. Look for lots of lines about his time as prisoner of war.
He doesn't need to eclipse Palin anyway. He is just riding her wave right now.
Do you think John McCain will give the greatest speech of his life? Let me know before and after.
In the meantime, check out some more behind the scenes photos of the RNC, courtesy of photog Matt Tomlin:

Hockey Mom Scores!

I would say the self-described "hockey mom" Gov.
Sarah Palin scored at least a hat trick last night.
I was watching from my perch right inside the Xcel Center
and the reaction from delegates was electrifying. My favorite part was when
after she delivered the line about "I’m not going to Washington to please commentators"
everyone starting chanting "NBC, NBC!" That of course is reference to
the feeling by many Republicans that MSNBC is biased against GOP.
Democrats right now should be very, very worried.
Here are some shots from inside the Xcel Center:

The Taunting Bunny

Check out the photo of this little bunny that's been hanging
out right outside the Xcel Center in St.
Paul.

Police have dubbed it "the taunting bunny" because it seemingly comes
out to taunt delegates while they head into the convention hall.
I think it's very cute but I'm starting to get worried that
Sarah Palin is going to come out and shoot it.
Waiting for Sarah

The most dramatic moment of the Republican convention here in Denver is about to happen. Delegates are buzzing about the upcoming acceptance speech of Gov. Sarah Palin - it may even eclipse McCain's speech in terms of interest.
Do you think she can handle the pressure? From what I've seen, I'd say yes. She can definitely deliver a speech and I think delegates here will give her an unbelievable ovation - especially due to her family being in the spotlight.
Let me know if you think Palin can do it - and I'll be blogging later
