Ok, I've had about all I can take of this.  There's only so much BLEEP that should be allowed to be aired.  Fox, this is not about you guys, this is 'other' media outlets.

As a true fan, I take my teams (the Sox, the Pats, the Celts) the way spouses take vows:  For richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, in good times and bad.  This is what a BOSTON fan does.  We stick it out, no matter what.  This brings me to my list of gripes (the short version).

1.  Bill Belichik does NOT owe us any explanations for why he is the way he is.  Deal with that.  We can't sing his praises one minute, and condemn him the next.  This is who he is!  He has never pretended to be Mr. Rogers, yet people keep expecting this to magically appear for some reason.  "Oh Bill is so rude, he has no sportsmanship, blah, blah, blah".  Bill has NEVER been any other way, don't you think it's time people accept that?  He doesn't like to speak to the media unless he's forced to (lots of people feel this way), he doesn't speak about his personal life or feelings and he does NOT have to justify wearing his ugly gray sweatshirt.  These are his choices and he's entitled.  In return, he shows up every year and delivers a team that is a force EVERY year.  This year, they almost made history!  This is the ONLY requirement we should have of him.  Other than that........

2.  Certain media people should be lined up and shot.  I can name at least 3 "sports analyst" that I've seen today (mind you, I can't watch tv at work so I'm sure I missed a few more) that did everything but bust out the knee pads last week while gushing over the Pats and today called them every name in the book along with their fans.  Look, it's fine to have a stance but you pick pick that stance, you support it and you stick by it.  You want to love the Pats (or whatever other team), fine.  You want to hate them, that's fine too.  But don't love them one week and then do a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde because you know what that makes you?  A HYPOCRITE!  Fans in Boston may be all you want them to be if that's your opion: loud, over-confident, arrogant, obnoxious (I heard all these today), but you know what we are not?  HYPOCRITES.  We say what we mean and you get what you see.  We don't pretend to love our team when they are winning and then throw them under the bus when they are not (sound familiar NY? I'm sure Eli is happy he showed some of you hypocrites that he can do it after all you said about him earlier this season).  We don't know how to do that.  For 86 years Fenway Park was filled even when they hadn't won a damn thing.

3.  Lastly, a play that I am sick and tired of hearing over and over and over again.  The now infamous 4 & 13 in the Superbowl.  Look, who does everyone think they are fooling?  Belichik took a chance and it failed.  Had he brought in Gostkowski for a 49 yd field goal and Gostkowski had missed, everyone would have dragged Belichik and Gostkowski through the mud anyway.  "Why would Bill put Gostkowski in?  After all, he only had one long field goal this season.  Why didn't he stay with Brady who was a better shot?".  Don't act, you KNOW that would have been the response.  In this case, Bill was damned if he did it, damned if he didn't.  He doesn't get to win that either.  Jeeeeeezzzzz

One more thing:  Don't blame Belichik for pushing the cameras away tonight.  He wanted a moment with the fans without cameras being shoved in his face.  Hasn't this man had enough?  It's time to give him and the team a break.  They just suffered a devastating loss, they deserve a little alone time.  I know the press was not trying to be malicious, but put yourselves in their shoes.  Be understanding.  I wouldn't want to see any of you either, and it would be nothing personal.  I've always thought it was cruel that a losing team on any game had to give a post game press conference.  That's just mean.

Ok, I feel better!  :)  That's all I have for now.  I know I'm going to 'get it' but frankly, in the words of Bill:  I DON'T CARE.

For richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, in good times and bad, til death parts us.  That is my vow to my Boston teams!!

Peace!!!!

june you are right about the ahole boston media with not only piling on belichick but the amount of BLEEP terry francona has taken as well. And why snt the media puttng pressure or asking the red sox why francona hasnt been awarded yet with an new contract? If an bum like duty baker who blew both the 2002 world series with the giants and the 2003 cubs(the bartman series)gets 3 years and $10.5M then what is terry worth? The only guy who should get paid more than francona based on track record is joe torre. The red sox need to sign francona before the season starts or he'll just be an lameduck manager with no power over the players who know he is in the last year of his deal and they figure he's gonbe after this year so why should i isten to anything he has to say?

You make a very good point about Francona, paulnofsky. I'm kind of wondering the same thing and I'm very upset with Red Sox management that this is even an issue. It shouldn't be. This man came in here, he was blasted as being 'too nice', a 'player's manager' and has promptly delivered not one, but TWO World Series Trophies.

I have a bigger issue with the national media than with the local media though.

June,
I so wish this could be published somewhere for all outside media to see. Well, the Herald too. It stated perfectly what it means to be a Boston sports fan. Thanks for summing it all up. Good going.
And thanks to Bill Belichik and the New England Patriots for the most fun football season I have ever had. Well done guys.
Go Green, Go Sox.

Thank you jonsmom. I'm sure some will disagree, but like a 'true Boston fan', I'm ready to stand by my opinion and not flip-flop. LOL! I just got so mad at the duplicity. I don't care if people don't like us or our teams, just don't act like you do one day and then slam us the next. That's the definition of a hypocrite and I was astounded listening to it last night.

Go Green, Go Sox & Thank you and see you soon, Pats!!!!!

June, You were much to kind to not include Fox in all of this. The announcers are your fair weather friends when you are winning, but when the tides turn they knew it....Bull! Like the celebrity that dies, they have an obituary in seconds. Just fill in the dates. It's the same way. Looks like the Patriot's are going to take this to a 19-0 season. Aren't those Giants wonderful. I saw that win coming....

Hi fenway,

When I wrote this, I hadn't yet heard anything negative from Fox, but that has since changed, of course. I think Chip labeled it right.

I can certainly agree with you that the media, at times, goes overboard with praise one minute and then hammers someone relentlessly when they are down.

All in all though, I don't think the media has done a terrible job in their coverage of the Super Bowl. There were many questions to be asked and answered when the Pats fell short in the Super Bowl. The media, local and national, had an obligation not to shy away from them.

Fans can certainly cheer for their teams win or lose and I am a firm believer in that type of support. However, this does not mean that one is not a fan or supporter of a team when they bring up valid points or questions about certain inadequacies or failures.

Coach Bs decision to go for it on 4th & 13 was his alone to make and you are right, either way he would have been a hero or a zero. He also had opportunities to go for it on 4th and short, which he had done all season long with great success, and opted to punt.....which seemed a bit odd. But, to me, one has to give BB the benefit of the doubt considering his overall success and experience. That being said, the media certainly has the duty to ask, answer and editorialize whether their results are agreeable or not. I am certain that Red Sox fans did not have any prblem with the criticism the Yanks took in the media after their coming up short.

My point is this; perhaps the overabundance of negativity you see in the media is a bit clouded by the freshness of the wound left by the Super Bowl letdown. To me, it is a continuation of the media crush that has existed all season long. I don'

Hi nhsportsfan,

Your post got cut off so I'm not sure how the rest of your post was going to go. In response to the part that did post, you are absolutely right. They absolutely have a job to do in questioning and analyzing and answering questions they think the public may be asking themselves. I certainly don't have a problem with that part of it. The type of media I'm referring to, though, are several pieces of personal opinions, insults and rants that have nothing intelligent to say about the game itself. 'Sports Analyst' that were giving personal opinions of praise to the Pats a week before, then turned around with personal opinions of hate a week later. It's duplicity at it's highest and the hypocrisy just turned my stomach. I don't care if you hate or love them, just stick to one and don't flip-flop, that's just....bad. If they were to stick to just the games themselves, this wouldn't even be a conversation because what happens on the field can't be denied. It either happened or didn't. You know what I mean? And you are right about the negativity being clouded by the freshness. Fresh meat is what matters in this business. I feel a lot better now, but at the moment, I was disgusted. I've learned to just stay away from it and try to look for people who intelligently just speaking facts and what's on the table. Either in support or not.

June,

Joe Brattenfeld's most recent blog takes the cake. He used his platform to smear Mitt Romney...I mean...when fenwaydav, the most liberal guy here agrees with Chip, who is just to the right of Genghis Kahn, ya goota know it's factual....

Then he has the inimitable gall to suggest Boston is a Twon of Losers. Good lord have mercy....he';s either without professional conscience or has an IQ just short of a small appliance light bulb.

Chip,

I'm starting to think our local media is our own biggest enemy.....everyone else just follows their lead. After all, if they have no faith, why should anyone else?!
