Hello fellow bloggers,

Throughout the time I’ve been blogging here, I’ve made no secret of how strongly I feel about animals.  I try to help out EVERY way I can.  The HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) are currently applying pressure to the government of Canada so they can ban the hunt of baby Harp seals.  I’ve included a picture of these babies here.  The cruel way in which they are killed for their fur would make anyone break down.  I’m not an extremist by any means, but I don’t condone unnecessary killing of animals.  In today’s age, fur is not a necessity for humans.  HSUS and PETA are gathering signatures on a petition threatening the Canadian government with ceasing to purchase any Canadian made seafood products if they don’t stop this senseless hunt.  Thousands of people have joined this petition worldwide, but of course, there can’t ever be enough supporters.  The more, the merrier.  I’ve included the link to the petition.  It takes 3 seconds (literally) and all they need is your support.  You don’t have to make any monetary contributions of any kind unless you want to.  Please, if you have 3 seconds, join the petition to stop this cruelty.  In an age where we have hundreds of man-made fabrics, including faux fur, it is just plain cruelty to do this.  There is absolutely no excuse.  Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you’ll consider signing.  They are hoping to have this petition completed by 3/24/08.

Thanks again fellow bloggers!!!

June

I am with you on the issue, but regret the involvement of PETA...they have gone way over the edge....

Yeah, I know what you mean, Chip. They do go too far sometimes. I limit my involvement with PETA because of that. I am actually supporting the HSUS on this issue. I really like the work the HSUS does and I'm a big fan of their new spokesperson, Nigel Barker. This issue breaks my heart so I'm willing to do anything I can reasonably do. A lot of family and friends have extended their support so I'm very happy. I hope something can be done. We'll see.

You are on the right side of this issue, June (IMHO), but we rarely disagree anyway. You've never called me a coward, fascist or socialist (the last two by the same person, go figure)!!! PETA's stand on hunting, etc is ludacrous....HSUS is much more moderate. They way, number, and necessity of killing baby seals puts me on your side.

Chip, I may disagree with some opinions given here, but I don't believe you can know someone well enough through a blog to call them such strong names.

PETA goes too far at times. I am very understanding of the fact that some animals die for human consumption and other reasons. Nature does the same thing, survival of the fittest and killing for necessity. Fur coats....not a necessity. A lot of the baby seals are skinned while still alive and then left to die. They are not even used for food or anything that one may consider a necessity or useful. Humane killing of animals for sustenance, that's one thing. Slaughter of hundreds of thousands of baby seals for fur coats to wear on the runways of Paris....Nope.

Thank you for your support!

The name I loved the best was coward...go figure...two tours of duty in Vietnam as the lieutenant of a rifle platoon (2nd plt, Charlie company, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment...US ARMY...1968 to 1969...If you ever want to read the account of a battle...Go to bluespader.org and check Ap Gu...or just google Ap Gu...You'll find an interesting story or a Lt Col named Alexander Haig....remember him?) and 25 years on the fire depsrtment. I am stubborn, I am opinionated, I can be a cranky old man...but THAT I aint!!! You know...looking back that far...even hardened men (and we were that) had dogs around...and those dogs were spoiled. Decent human beings care for all animals....

Even as a lifeong hunter, I was brought up never to hunt what I didn't eat....

Yeah....I don't think I would use the word coward. Definitely not. And I definitely recognize the name Alexander Haig. Yep.

Decent human beings do care for all animals. You were brought up right, Chip. Clearly.

Hi June....
I am in the seafood business and have been since the age of 12. I passed along this link to my boss and as many others as I could.
I noticed that alot of the restaurants and markets we deal with are already on board.

I have a funny side note to animals/extinction ...I was talking with my 12 year old the other day about animals etc...in her most honest face she looks at me and says "ya know what mom, I really do not mind that there are no more Dinasaurs."
