I don't know what goes through the mind of a person that does this, but I do BELIEVE the following:  Anyone who would do something like this is capable of much more and it's only a matter of time before they get there.  Anyone who has seen the movie or read the book Apt Pupil would know what I mean.

Justice eyed for scorched kitten

MSPCA investigators are searching for whoever “cooked” a 6-week-old kitten in a microwave, nearly killing him.

Edison was brought to Angell Animal Medical Center in Jamaica Plain on July 3 with life-threatening injuries consistent with being burned alive, said MSPCA-Angell spokesman Brian Adams.

His entire tail may have to be surgically removed, Adams said, and both of his ears may have to be amputated.

Now 8 weeks old, Edison also suffered burns to his legs and blisters on his tongue, but it could be weeks before doctors know the full extent of his injuries.

“He’s on a downhill slope right now,” Adams said. “Hopefully, he’ll begin to rebound.”

He is on pain medication and in foster care with Dr. Deborah Brady, a staff veterinarian “It’s got to be painful, but his prognosis is good,” Brady said.

It will be months before Edison is ready for adoption. But yesterday, he showed signs of feistiness, nibbling on another kitten’s ear, pausing just long enough to swat him on the nose.

Adams would not release details of the MSPCA’s investigation other than that someone surrendered the kitten, alleging that he had been put in a microwave oven.

The MSPCA’s Law Enforcement Department has been trying to get in touch with the person who made the allegation, but the contact information the person gave was apparently incorrect, Adams said. Anyone with information should contact the MSPCA at 800-628-5808.

If the person who burned the kitten is caught and convicted of animal cruelty, the maximum penalty is up to 2 years in jail and a $2,500 fine.

Edison was one of three critically injured cats and dozens of homeless animals blessed yesterday by Lama Gursam, a Tibetan priest.

One of the cats, a 6-week-old kitten named Newton, was surrendered to the MSPCA last Friday after a three-story fall. Another cat, Zorro, survived a South Boston fire last week.

Ya think, June?

It never ceases to amaze me how many cruel people we have in this world. How anybody can hurt an animal is way beyond me. I don't know why each and every time I read a story like this I'm shocked. I shouldn't be. It happens all the time. I recently read an article that said cats are the most hated animal and the most abused in this country. They are also brought to the vet by their owners less than dogs. Cats get a bum rap as far as I'm concerned. I recently found out about someone's cat being shot. Yes I said shot. Right in the middle of the owner's street. Shameful that human beings can behave that way.

Shameful? HORRIFYING is more like it! I think people like that expose themselves as the cancers of the world. They should be picked off and executed along with child molestors/rapists and others. Let's do what nature would do. Nature kills the sick.

This was tough read. I have two cats and pretty sure I am the conversation of my family on how I treat them.

I know I am the talk of the family because my three cats are spoiled rotten. For the older cat we buy three different dry foods and mix them together for him. The two babies (not really anymore-they're almost three) get a totally different kind of food. They're treated better by us than most humans are. We all just love them to pieces and if anybody dared harm one of them-well, I don't even want to say what would happen. Some people really suck.

TheEliteOne, jonsmom,

Nothing wrong with loving your pets like you would your kids. Your posts only made me like you more than I already did. I have 3 cats myself (with new addition, Pocket) and I can't envision my life without them. These cats have their own bedroom, complete with cat condo, pillows on the floor to lay on, toys and their own a/c for the hot summer days. They are my BABIES and I love them to death and so does my husband.

This is a tough read for anyone that has compassion running in their veins and who would never think to hurt something defenseless, be it animal or human. I just had to post it because it's further proof that humanity has reached an all-time low. I just hope we resurface.

Also, folks, there was a pic of the kitty that accompanied this story. Cute little baby. Here's the link in case you want to see him.

I definetely have stange cats. They want to go into the room with no a/c.

My older one is 15 and still in good health. I should see the doctor as much as my cats see their vet.

Tell me about it, Elite!! I've been 'forgetting' to make my appt. for my physical this year (and I will, of course, because I do every year), but the cats have all had their run through already! NO delays when it comes to them! LOL!

June, we should add losers like this to the list for the new tea party. And don't get me started on spoiling animals! Every damn animal in this house (1 cat, 1 dog, 1 tropical fish and 2 parakeets) is spoiled...I even spoil the ones that aren't technically mine. I'm a sucker that way.

Xantun,

Excellent idea!!! Let's throw them over too!!!!!!! By the way, when do we start the modern day 'Tea Party'?

I saw the picture in The Herald Enquirer (my pet name for it) and he is absolutely adorable. I hope he gets a good home with someone who will love him.

June: I am at the point where I tell my vet if he forgot something in the exam.

I saw the kitten last night. Everything this poor cat went thru and she still is playful.
I think Lauren Prizbell fell in love. The kitten was playing with her long hair.

Good question, June. I think we need to form a secret society first...Might as well go by the history books, with a few modernizing tweaks!

Elite,

LOL! I'm not there yet, but WOW!!! LOL!!!

Guys, I'm sure this kitty already has a list of people that want to adopt it. My concern now finding the bastard that did this. They should be shot!

Xantun: We would need to come up with a secret password too.

Of course we'd need a secret password, June...And don't bother passing it out over the phone!

And once we find the bastard that did this, the next concern is doing something about increasing the penalty. 2 years in prison? What about this poor kitten who will probably be subjected to a lot more years of pain? Y'know, I was even thinking of adopting him, which goes to show you how much of a softie I am...I'm allergic to cats!

You're allergic to cats? But you have Cajun! How does that work??

I've been all over the place writing to different officials about stricter laws for animal abuse. I also believe these offenders, even if they don't go to jail, should be kept in a database and checked everytime a violent crime is committed. I believe you start hurting animals, it will eventually move on to people. MA state laws are actually very relaxed when it comes to animal protection. Then again, what would you expect from a state that refuses to protect children?

June, that's what allergy medication is for. It's not always pleasant for me, but I'm rewarded every time Cajun gets all lovey-dovey. I think she's just glad to be out of where she was! (And so am I, since I learned 8 months after I adopted her that someone living in the house she came from was abusing the animals.)

And keep writing to people about the stricter laws and databases...It's been proven that animal cruelty can be one of the signs of a budding serial killer. Although MA is very relaxed about animal cruelty, we aren't the only ones...A lot of states actually have far lighter sentences/fines than we do. (Of course, that whole refusing to protect kids thing isn't going to make our job here easy, but that's what getting loud is for!)

Thank you for rescuing her, Xantun. And I am ready to make a damn mess of noise about kids and animals in this state! When Michael Vick did what he did, the NFL, Nike, Topps and the Atlanta Falcons heard from me on a daily basis. I have never been so happy like I was when That One went to jail and got his career and reputation ruined.

Elite, I know you said one of your cats is 15. How old is the other one? What are their names?? :)
