This just in from the National Weather Service.  Seems the ocean is colder this year.  This is something you likely won't hear in the typical media outlets, but the NWS calls it like they see it.  No politics here.

National Weather Service: SEA ICE ADVISORY FOR ARCTIC WATERS AS WATER TEMPS DROP 8° IN 2008 September 22, 2008

Excerpt: SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURES ALONG THE ALASKA CHUKCHI AND BEAUFORT SEA COASTS ARE 2 TO 8 DEGREES CELSIUS COLDER THIS YEAR THAN AT THE SAME TIME LAST YEAR. [...] SIGNIFICANT ICE WILL BEGIN DEVELOPING ALONG THE ALASKA COAST NORTH OF 70N WITHIN THE NEXT 10 TO 14 DAYS.

This does NOT mean the globe is cooling as some believe it is, but the evidence is mounting.  It'll be interesting to see if earlier icing and colder temperatures seeping southward this fall will mean anything for our winter.  I sure think so.

Kevin,

What do you think about the newest studies which have suggested that the earth is actually in a tug-of-war between global warming & global cooling (the second being caused by dimming from pollution)?
Apparently, there is a layer of pollution so thick above a huge part of our planet, that the sun is having a difficult time piercing through it.
The ash, soot, and other particles of pollution are so thick that instead of the fewer water droplets which--due to their size--eventually become heavy enough to fall from the sky in the form of rain; many more smaller water droplets stick to these particles and cause a "mirror effect" which deflects the rays of the sun back into space.
I dare to posit that a similar phenomenon once caused a "runaway greenhouse effect" on Venus; which (depending on who you ask) averages about 700 degrees Fahrenheit today.
So the new assertion some scientists are making is that global warming IS happening, but is being slowed by global dimming. I know...it's maddening.
Your thoughts-?

Warmists will continue to deny the factual evidence. It's all they've got left.

Does this mean the polar ice caps are really not melting?

while waters off Alaska are cooling the same can't be said for the offshore waters of New England . Boston Light still about 60 F. I don't feel dimming. The sun is quite warm to the skin and two days ago it generated stratocumulus overcast. Just about all of our rain in Sep came from tropical systems with associated high humidity. If this is a symptom of global cooling, it must be a masquerade.
