The last few days we have been crazy for State Police.  Three Amber Alerts in a matter of four days.

First Clark Rockefeller allegedly took his 7-year old daughter during a supervised visit in Boston.  The child and Rockefeller are still missing.

Then Rodlyn Petitbois is accused of taking his four children and their mother from a home in Lynn.  A house where a murder occured just a short time before the kids disappeared.   Petitbois was picked up 8-hours later in New York.  The kids and their mother are all fine.

Finally, some guy decided to grab his two year old daughter in Chicopee.   The child's mother had a restraining order against him.  Police say he has a violent past.  The father and daughter are still missing. (as of Thursday AM)

The question I pose to you is this,  do these men do this because they love their kids and want to be with them..or do they do it because they want revenge on someone else. I believe it's the later.   In almost every one of these cases, there is an adult woman who has a problem with the suspect.  Divorce, violent  past together, money...these are all reasons for some of these crazy men to take kids and run.  What makes me really sad is that the kids are always the victims.  I think in most of these cases, the men don't intend to hurt the kids...but when push comes to shove, you never know how these incidents might  turn out.

I agree that it is revenge. It is a control issue and no one is going to put restraints on them.

Kim: I have a question. It is highly doubtful the limo driver did not hear the screams of the social worker. The driver should have been outside opening the door. What is going o here?
Bob seems to be on a roll. Send him to this guys house to ask some real questions.

More often than not, battles over custody boil down to battles over child support. I'd love to say that parents love their kids, but I have just seen otherwise in practice.

In these instances, like the three you've listed, I'm betting there are three different motives, each differing from the other in areas..bound by only two common factors:

Impulsivity and stupidity.

Hello Kim,
If these fathers really loved their kids, the kids would still be with their mothers. This is all about revenge.

Kim,TheEliteOne is right,The limo driver and the woman that drove them to NYC doesn't pass the smell test.I think they know more than they are saying.

Hi Kim,
I have been wondering the same thing since the 2nd recent Amber Alert. I am a father of 3 kids and I have my nutty moments but I cannot fathom what has brought these men to such stupidity and selfishness.
I am extremely grateful for the Amber Alert system. I praise the Mass State Police for the success of it. I am, however, deeply saddened that it is needed and has been used far too frequently. With every alert we are witnessing more and more families being torn apart and the ideal of a happy American family disintigrating.

Where can I vote for stiffer punishment for those who jeopardize the safety of children?

Kelldog, not all separations are about revenge. Most logical reasons parents agree to separate have nothing to do with the children at all. But I agree that the fathers in question here are highly unbalanced people bent on revenge without regard for their kids.

On the surface, Kim, these fathers all seem to be bad people for what they have done, particularly a possible murderer and one with a restraining order. Seems clear cut. However, I bet there are some men out there who do this out of desperation. There is no doubt custody battles favor women. For some dads, watching the children taken away for at least half the time might be too much. Not an excuse for them, just trying to understand.

Kevin,

That's why God created lawyers.....if you love your children, win fairly and model good behavior. They will ultimately love you for it.

i know a lot of guys who love their children, but believe you me, they would never steal thier own child if they thought they'd see them on a regular basis. so now these guys are taking kids, THEIR OWN, kids, and running off. says something about the mother.

i pray to god, i'm never on the news because my child is missing.... if that ever does happen though i have a package that would help police. they give them out at county fairs and such because this is such a pandemic.

Dustingstarsoff,
Thats a really good idea. Unfortunately that is what it has come to.
These Amber Alerts are a wake up call for all parents and social workers.

chip, you make it sound bad just because the masons are invovled....

yes it is CHIPS. not dental impressions, a swab for their cheek, for a DNA sample. they are/were extremely nice and i recommend every parent to get one set up for their children.

KIM , I would say 9 out of 10 incidents like these are out of revenge....who are they hurting other then the mothers ???? the poor KIDS ....... when you put the kids in the middle of their problems all that does is mess up the kids minds!! and they really don't deserve any of that, these kids did not ask to be born ! parents do the right thing and think of your kids first !

I think in child custody cases that are questionable, there should be a requirement to put a chip ( tracking device ) as they do in pets.

Lucky for me my childrens father could care less if he sees them or not. But if for a second I thought there was a chance he would grab them and run I would have chips put in my own children.

DuxburyMA, Look into the Masonic CHIPS Program in your area. Now called MYCHIP (Masonic Youth/Child Identification Program). There is one at the Marshfield Fair on August 20, if that is helpful. A video that not only shows your child from all angles, but answers pertinent questions about how one might find him/her, dental records and/or DNA swabs and other stuff. I'll include the web link to our Grand Lodge Website page about the program for anyone else who is interested in protecting their children this way.

Thank you for the information Chip, my children have had this one done at thier schools.

I just always wonder why not plant a chip in a child as is done with a dog or cat. Look how quickly they tracted the owner of that fat cat.

That poor child from Boston would probably be home by now.

I find it interesting that Chip is not your real name. Recently you called me a coward for not using my name. My response was..like Chip could really identify you. Now we cannot even go by that.

And why would you think that Chip is not my real name, EliteOne? My parents began calling me that when I was 6 months old, after they were trying to find a name different than my fathers (I'm a "third"), and Chip was suggested by my cousin. I am who I am. I have given out more than sufficent information for anyone ot find me. I am one of the most visible folks in the small community I live in.

Just another guy who attacks from behind the shield of annonymity.....

And DuxburyMA,

On topic: I have a problem with the "chip" idea. I fear that that "chip" will be used by big government...or worse..from a biblical perspective...it seems to me like the "high tech Mark of the Beast" to me.
