Recently Carolina Panther wide receiver Steve Smith punched a teammate in the face at practice. Smith was fined and punished by his team. Several days later he showed up and issued this apology publically.

After seeing and hearing Smith's apology it dawned on me that we never heard the same type of remorse and humility from Manny Ramirez after he pushed Red Sox travelling secretary Jack McCormick in Houston in late June. All Manny said publically was that "Jack is my friend, has been my friend and will continue to be my friend". Manny never said I'm sorry, at least he didn't publically. And I wonder if Manny had shown the same humility and genuine remorse that Steve Smith had done, if we -- if you -- would have felt differently about what Manny did. After all, we love to forgive in this country, don't we?

Oh Butch,
It was a long time comming for Manny as for Smith here he should feel remorse,I know this goes on in sports a lot, but it gives you know right to put your hands on anyone. Smith got what he deserved, and so did Manny. I don't believe Manny has ever come out to the press and said "it's my fault, sorry team", and I doubt he ever will. It's takes a man to admit you are wrong, it also takes a "man" to stick to his word once he admits. We will see with Smith.

Who cares about an ex-cop, baggage handler for the Red Sox? It's old news, yet it "just dawned" on you that Manny never issued a public apology? Are you seriously wasting time thinking about this? I'm stunned.

Butch, Enough already anbout this Manny bashing you have been doing the last few nights, How many nights did Manny make it into your nightly newscast on good notes...How quickly we forget all that Manny did for us, How many games he won for us, Last night we could not beat the Royals, Clutch situation Jason Bay got lucky... any other team that game would have been over. Do I think Manny was right on how he left Boston or the things he did, No however I cannot put those things above all the good things he did do for this team over the years. so Butch please let manny go and concentrate on other things!!

LOL, Just gave back the double entendre in "butch"?

Serioulsy though, your point is well taken. Manny failed to do alot of the decent things you'd expect. It's funny...my wife's employer rents the "Legends Box" every year and takes the employees...last fall we had Carleton Fisk...he said he didn't like Manny....

Pudge, like Butch, knows baseball...inside and out!!
