AWWWW!

She just loves to read, but she owes $60 in fines...
I find it reprehensible that this was even broadcast on the news.  Whomever is the parent of this little girl ought to be a little more than ashamed of themselves.  The rules have been broken to the point where the library is looking for police help to either get the books back or receive the monies that they are owed.  But instead, they decide to put forward their little girl's powdered epxression of how she loves the institution of library lending - she's cute, it must make it all right!

O, it was a mistake, ok, you made a mistake.  You boxed the books and you are going to return them.  Why not do it then?  WHy are you shoving your wittle goil out there to get on the news?  Teach her how to dial 911 first, then choke on a chicken bone if you are so desperate to garner your kid some attention!

And yes, you parents... you broke a rule and like most of the rules out there they pertain to you too.  Tough luck in it not?

Too right, Sully! There was no reason for the nedia to be called in for this. Unless the library made the call, trying to shame the family into paying the fine? Yes, she loves to read - so do other little children who can't check out the books her family's been hanging on to. Common sense took a major vacation with this one.

The only folks stupider (hehe, is that a word, and does it prove i'm stupidEST?) than this woman are the reporters who think this is news.

It's pretty simple. Libraries LEND books. Children learn to be responsible about returning "lent items" by modeling parents behavior. And children learn to accept responsibility by modeling "responsibility taking behavior" from their parents.

This girl may read well, but she is gonna be very behind in her "giving back lent stuff" skils, and her ability to "take responsibility".

And the media is "co-dependent" on this one.

Don't be silly, we all know there is no personal responsibility left in the world.

If the library has to resort to legal tactics to get their books back from a small child, those parents should be horribly embarrassed.

I guess it boils down to why people of all ages get on the news... they either do something exquisitely begnign, like donating a kidney, or they act in an aggressively negative manner ie breaking the law. Maybe the mini library lover deserves a redemptive follow=up, wherein she can lisp her conviction to pay back the library using her milk money allowance!

I cringe when I think of all the soft headed people out there who may be poised against the library on this topic all because of the yellow delivery of this cutsie pie slop.

Will justice prevail?

Madsully, No it won't. We have become a culture without consequences. Parents don't aprent, they look to tv's and teachers. Accountability is out the window.

The mother of those girls should be boiled in oil for ever letting her daughters on Tv to make complete BLEEP of themselves.

Conservative mother of three married to someone who actually asked me if Kerry Healy was related to John Kerry. O, how you get to know some one after the honeymoon is over.
