So Corey Dillon wants to move on. I say goodbye and good riddance! Granted, I'm not a teammate, but I can count on one hand the amount of times I saw the man smile in my previous role as a sportscaster. I'd need several hands to count the number of times he came across as a bitter, often brooding, individual in the locker room.

For a guy who made millions of dollars playing football on one of the best teams in the game and won a much coveted Super Bowl ring, he always struck me as the unhappiest guy in the room. Go Figure. Oh sure, he'd occasionally hold court and even joke with the media...but there always seemed to be an underlying uneasiness on the part of the interviewer and the interviewee.

Maybe a change of scenery will do him good and yes, maybe the Pats will miss his punishing running style. But maybe after 10 seasons in the NFL, he'll finally find happiness in retirement or with another team. One can only hope so. Life's too short...just ask the family of Dennis Johnson.

Mark,

Corey strikes me as a "tough guy" in the "Old School" sense. You don't smile for outsiders. You grunt and flex and be stoic, You never admit to pain. Neitchke, Butkus, Ditka....

You save the fn and comaraderie for your teammates, over beer and belching.

I understand what he is dong. I don't think it is as selfish as the press is making it. He took Lawrence Maroney under his wing and taught him. Now Corey is taking his wings elsewhere, where they need a back who will run 30 times a game. He ws loyal to his team and teammate by teaching and sharing, and he is being loyal to Maroney by leaving.

That's what tough guys do.

I have no problem with Dillon but I don't care if he leaves either. Maroney needs more carries and we can find a cheaper change of pace back. Maroney has a season under his belt now and Dillon will lose carries if he stays here.

He wants to be the featured back so I don't begrudge him the chance to go and seek that opportunity. I don't know if he can be that back, he broke some runs this year but didn't have the speed to take it all the way so I think he needs to be honest with himself but that's easy for me to say.

Oscar, there are alot of backs who have jerseys ijn the Hall of Fame who couldn't break long runs..the punishing back style that Dillon runs. I only hope he goes the NFC....

That's certainly true, I was just commenting that he seems to have lost a step. I guess we all do with age though. He is a bruiser, it's a lot to stop at the goal line.
