See where the Somerville theater wants to sell beer and wine. Much as I love a cold beer and an occasional glass of the grapes...I can't imagine this thing being a success. My first thought...the beer would have me running to the bathroom and missing part of the movie. I don't know about you...but I can't stand missing even a second of a flick, especially if it's a whodunnit. Of course there are other potential problems, for instance people getting too noisy after a couple of cocktails and then of course there's the underage drinker who somehow scores a bracelet.

However, the Somerville theater also hosts concerts...and in that setting I say "give me a cold one". So I guess it depends on the night. Movies and merlot are out, concerts and Coors are in. How do you feel? We'll see you at ten!

Hey Mark,

there are two of these kinds of theaters in my area. one in Amesbury, one in Merrimac. They are totaly cool. they serve food as well. A waitress takes your food and drink order and fills it before the movie starts. Very quietly they get your refill order during the movie. A thoughtful intermission takes care of bathroom concerns and you can get another refill if you like, and then the rest of the mopvie. It's very well done and the atmosphere is so casual and relaxing. People arent there to get drunk, just to take in a flick in a more adult setting.....it's alot of fun!!

Mark,
When I think of movies, I think of buttery, salted popcorn and a diet coke! (i know loaded carbs w/a diet soda?) hee hee .. and not one to think of having a glass of wine while im there .. However, it might be nice to have the 'option' for a glass of wine or cold beer! Now, Mark, you cant go POUNDING them as let's be real, you will be in the mens room missing the flick! But having the option of ONE or TWO cold ones during a movie like, um Invincible? Now that might be good! Dont ya think? :)

Foxfriend and Smiley73 thanks for your comments. Maybe I did jump the gun on this one. A co-worker here at the station swears by the format and enjoys going to a similar theater in Framingham. As he told me...the over 21 venue keeps the rowdy teens at bay so you can enjoy a good drink and a good movie....not to mention some good food.

Guess I'll be checking it out for myself soon.

I think it's a good idea to be able to have a couple of beers. You are right about underage drinking though, there needs to be something in place for that. You're in the dark so if somebody gives an underage kid a couple of beers, nobody would notice.

I'd be more likely to go to the movies if I could have a couple of beers. I haven't seen a movie in a theater since Something About Mary and that was quite a while ago. I rent them at home and have a couple of beers with my popcorn and chips there.
