Do you have a man cave? If not, check out my story Sunday night on the FOX 25 News at 10 and you may become inspired to build one. They're also called man rooms...a male sanctuary where a guy and his friends can hang out free from females and responsibilities. Where they can watch sports and movies, shoot pool, play cards, drink beer and burp...in whatever order they like. Typically man caves can be found in a remodeled basement, but there are other retreats such as a garage, storage shed or barn. Often they feature a slew of sports memorabilia and whatever else the person is passionate about.

I don't have one...yet. But I am thinking more and more about one especially after doing the story in which I visit three different man rooms. All three had pool tables and sports memorabilia and a couple had bars...one complete with Harpoon IPA on tap. Big screen tv's, flat screen plasmas were also common...one even had an old fashioned popcorn cart and a putting green while another had a home theater with three rows of leather couches on risers!

The wives of the men featured don't seem to mind, in fact they like them because they keep their guys happy...however one did tell me that when it comes to cleaning the man cave bathroom...her hubby's on his own for that as well.

Got a man room?..I'd love to see it...send it along to:projects@myfoxboston.com

Hey Mark! What an interesting blog! I have never seen a Man Cave but I was actually invited to one .. although he referred to it as "Man Town" .. Actually a funny story, i think ....
Being newly single, I am not with the times, if you will, with the whole single life. A few friends and I were at a lounge and a guy approached me and we chatted for some time .. he proceeded to ask me if my friends and I would like to join him and his buddies in Man Town .. I'm like Man Town? Being naive Im thinking it's a bar or something right? So I asked him and he laughed .. you never heard of a Man Town? Now feeling VERY stupid, I'm like um no .. He's like its at my house! I have a space above my 3 car garage w/pool tables, a bar and a plasma t.v.! He's like me and the guys usually chill there! Appalled that he would even think I would leave there with him, never mind to his "man town," I politely told him I think he and his buddies should go there and chill ...

I had a "man town" going in a spare bed room for about 2 years. It was a nice room with a computer, countertop to use for hobbies and doing small projects and nice chair to sit and watch tv..then..the female population of the surrounding communities invaded "man town". I fled in haste and the boxed up remnants are down in the unfinished basement awaiting a rebirth. I go down there from time to time to stay familiar with my goods. The former "man town" is now a family sitting room with a tv, love seat. Entirely repainted. Nothing remains. It reminds me of what happened to the West End. I still have the backyard; pool and shed for the summer months to call my own. Someday I will get up the nerve to make something out of my danky basement. That will be a real "man town" with no fancy frills like the ones you featured in your story. I have to admit and was quite pleased to see my wife squirming when you aired the story. The whole subject of my space getting invaded, I will never let it go. Thanks.

I have one in the finished basement but it's not a super well decorated one. I have a basic 6 foot bar, TV corner mounted behind it, sports pictures on the wall, dart board and a tap and CO2 system for keg beer.

On the other side of the room, I have another TV, 2 recliners and a couch. That will eventually be a play room but for now it's where the dog and I watch all of our sports. I let him on my furniture so he enjoys it.

No pool tables or anything though. There are too many other projects in the house, my budget can't stretch far enough to do more yet. In time though, it will be improved.
