A Houston teenager is led away in handcuffs on her prom night because her dress left little to the imagination ... very little. Marche Taylor made it only as far as the hotel lobby before she was told her outfit wasn't appropriate. The 17-year-old's custom made dress barely covered her breasts and clearly showed more skin than fabric. And to make matters worse, school officials insist she wasn't wearing any undergarments! Marche was told she could gain admittance only if she changed into something that didn't violate the school's dress code, but she declined and asked for her money back. A heated argument ensued and not long after that police arrived and arrested her.

In my opinion, the school had every right to turn her away ... it was after all a school function. My issue is with her parents. Did they think for a moment this inappropriate attire was appropriate? Maybe for a street corner or a strip club, but I can't imagine any parent signing off on such an outfit for the prom. Here's a picture of the dress, what do you think?

Ock, I may sound like a prude, but that is the most disgusting dress I have seen. Maybe like you say for a street corner or strip show. Shame on her and her parents.

every generation pushes it a little further, think about it when you went to the prom when you were younger I'm sure your parents did'nt like what you wore, and I'm sure this girl won't like what her kid's are wearing. Besides she is gettig ready to be an adult it's her decision.

I wouldn't doubt she already has a "job" working the streets at night if she and her parents think this is perfectly acceptable attire. In fact, I'm wonder if she even has 'parents'...aren't they suppose to be caregivers looking after their children? Doesn't look like anyone really cares about this child!

"...I'm sure your parents did'nt like what you wore,..." - brick-hustler

brick-hustler, my parents were with me when I picked out my prom dress...as all parents should be! Let's not forget as long as they are still in high-school they are 'children' and parents have legal responsibility for them. So it is NOT her decision as to what she wears to a prom.

The fact she ended up in handcuffs is proof enough that too many kids today think they are above the law and can do whatever they please. But, doing whatever they please only holds true in households where there is no one watching out for a child's well-being.

if she wants to show off her body ,wait for the beech events in the summer. Social gathering is being able to also know what is sociably accepted or not. Most young people today obviously miss this valuable lesson. Just think 5 years from now when she goes to a Christmas party at her company's Christmas party. Trust me ,she will get pass over for that promotion. It happens every time. This should be a lesson for real life that people do and will judge you by the way you look at certain events ,but I am not counting on her getting the lesson......

Let me try this again: My daughter would have to KILL ME in order to get by me and out the front door of the house dressed like that. She'd have to risk life in prison for it.

Oh, I googled it. Again, I reiterate, my daughter would have to physically plow me down to leave the house!

drerunner,
You make a good point about future decisions. As much as we'd like our society to be based on fairness and what one deserves, the fact is, when it comes to jobs (and life), one wrong impression can kill everything. It goes the same for both genders, but it is specially important for ladies to learn the lesson and play the game because we are already at a disadvantage. I always tell my little sister: "Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have. Dress to impress". I'm hoping she always remembers this.

So true JuneInMA. Love it or hate it ,"it is what it is", once we hit the real world. I remember when I was 19 coming home from college and realize how disappointed my mother was when she saw me jump off the train wearing holes in jeans. The look on her face, I will never forget. Even though ,I was a college kid trying to be cool, my mother knew the world was much larger than the one I was wrap up in at that time. That's one lesson I never forgot.......

from what you're wearing in your avatar, I wouldn't doubt you don't already have a job walking the streets at night

Clothes does not make the man or woman
Did Barbara Walters dress like that ? yet she was having affair with a Senator
I could list many more "scums of society" but you should get the picture by now.

brick-hustler , you are 100% right, its her decision

I think that these kids watch their idols, the Hollywood Elite and try to mimic them. Her dress would have been OK at the Oscars. She could have worn that dress on TV walking down the red carpet and would have had a complement from Joan Rivers.

…and to me, that is the problem.

Was it appropriate for a school function? NO. Was it appropriate for walking the street? Yes. How did she get the idea to wear such a dress? We teach all kinds of things about sex in school but we never teach morality and modesty anymore. That would border on religious beliefs and they have been banned from school. In my opinion the school created their own monster.

I believe she's trying to be like her role model....Lil Kim. I prefer the pretty Cinderella dresses for Proms not the slutty ones. They DO always say that the Prom is a night to remember and I think she proved it.

Its just WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!

Where are her parents! I would never let my daughter was around my house looking like that let alone her go to the prom in that.

They should have put her parnets in jail!

Where were her guardians when she left the house? How inappropriate.

That dress is pretty awful. It's sad to think that this girl has no self respect. To expose herself like that to the boys at the prom, not to mention faculty. What kind of attention was she looking for? You are all right. It begins with the parents and the school did exactly what they should have done. We really need to keep working on the self esteem of these young kids. That young lady should know she is better than that and she doesn't need to go to her prom half naked to get noticed.
