Add this one to the Strange Burials blog. Fredric Baur was recently interred in a Pringles can! Now before you say, that's crazy, Mark, keep in mind, Baur designed the tubular can. He was 89 when he died and his family said he was so proud of his invention that he asked that they put his ashes in one of the iconic containers and bury it when he passed. They kept their word and did just that last month in Ohio.

Baur was an organic chemist and food storage technician who specialized in research and development and quality control for Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co. Dr. Baur filed for a patent for the tubular Pringles container and for the method of packaging the curved, stacked chips in the container in 1966, and it was granted in 1970.

Now, I'm a huge fan of Pringles, in fact I had some today with my lunch (no kidding)...here's my question (s). Did they use the regular size can or the one that offers 25% more for free? And was it regular flavor Pringles (my favorite) or Ranch-Rageous, Sour Cream and Onion, Fiery Hot or CheezUms? Remember the blog I wrote about the guy who's already got his casket which doubles as a giant Pabst Blue Ribbon can? What a party these two could have in the afterlife huh?

fenwaydav,

Not sure what you're getting at? I think this guy has every right to be buried in a Pringles can. But you've got to admit it is unusual. Oh, and I left out the Ridges version of the famous chips. Those were great too!

Mark I guess no on gave you the e-mail I sent you. I was referrig to the exact thing I wrote in the entertainment section. Mine wasn't good enough to make the main page even though alot of the words are exact.

Ock, you forgot the Honey Mustard ones...Those things are GOOD!

Now all that's needed is for someone to be buried in a Cohiba cigar box and they're all set for one heck of a blowout party.

Darn...requesting the burial of a pet turtle...huh. Never thought to do that. The "Millenium Version" of the Band-aid box.

Mark, don't forget the Ruffles. Personal favs are the Sour Cream and BBQ flavors. What flavor container did his family place the ashes, and should they stay fresh like the chips did?

Mark,
not to make light of the situation,
However, can you imagine if after the family put his ashes in the can, they suddenly
"misplaced the can on the assembly line"
It would make one wonder when they got to the bottom of the can, if they were really eating
the crumbs of the chips or what?

Just wondering?

I think that it's great that he got buried in a Pringles can. He invented it. He wanted to be buried in it, so....good for him.

fenwaydav,

What can I say...great minds must think alike. As Maria is my witness I never saw your blog until today, Tuesday. Sorry, but I didn't expect to find it in the Entertainment section. That said, I am struck by the similar train of thought. When I Googled Fredric Baur's name for more info a picture of the various cans appeared and that got me thinking and ultimately writing about the different flavors including my favorite. As for the size of the can (25% more)...that's what I recognized earlier in the day while packing my lunch. Now I see VB's also blogged about this...could he too be thinking along the same lines? We'll see at 5pm. Such an obscure topic that's certainly garnered a lot of interest. Next time I'll be sure to scan the Blogs page, before I crank one out on the keyboard...so as to avoid any type of coincidental duplication.

Ock, VB is spending most of the time just eating those pringles. I thought about where to put it and I was torn cause it just didn't seem like news specially that he died a month ago. No harm. I guess my ego got in the way.

It's sad whenever anybody is buried with a chip on their shoulder......

Is this a single use can? Of can others be "stacked" on top of him?
