Wow, crazy times in the political world. In a matter of hours we've all come to know a relative unknown in Sarah Palin. Whether or not you think she can do the job as John McCain's running mate, you have to agree she's caused quite a buzz and suddenly the Vice Presidential debate on October 2nd will have a captive audience. Sure, Palin has got to impress, but she'll also be viewed as the underdog and can go after Joe Biden. Though rich in experience when it comes to debates, Biden's got to be careful; his answers must be measured and well thought out. And Obama's right-hand man can't afford to pop off as he's been known to do or come off as a bully or somehow demeaning to women.

On another note, going second isn't working out well for the Republicans. Many people thought they'd have an advantage holding their convention second because it would allow them to attack the Dems and some of the positions they took at the DNC. Going second would also allow them to leave a lasting impression. However, Hurricane Gustav is wreaking havoc with the RNC's schedule. Late Sunday, it was announced Monday's schedule has been substantially scaled back and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be addressed on a day-by-day basis. Hurricane Gustav is grabbing all the headlines and rightly so...making it a not so grand week for those in the Grand Old Party.

I have a feeling that part of John McCain's strategy is to throw people off, to create alot of surprises; I think there are other surprises that may be on the horizon.
Each candidate must walk a fine line between being too assertive or not assertive enough.
They must be able to defend their positions, but also do so in such a way as to not antagonize the very voting blocs that they are trying to win over. All voting blocs are important, and should not be taken for granted.

This is the luckiest thing that could possibly happen to the RNC. No lame duck President. No despised VP. No speech by their candidate to compare to Obama's. AND no comparisons to the shameful way the Government has treated Katrina victims. They must be exstatic

Good point about Biden popping off. Biden's whole offense just changed, and he might not be able to learn the new playbook.

His whole life has been attacking people. The GOP has enough sound bites of him putting OBama down. There is nothing on tape of Palin doing this to McCain.

Delaying the convention will be a positive for the republicans. I would think Palin needs a little more time getting ready.

We'll see.

Ock, The way I see it, the Hurricane could be the best thing that happened to the RNC. It can show them in a more caring and concerned light. It's a delicate balance, but by Friday they could be up in the polls. Let's talk then.....

Biden will be hard pressed to bully Palin. She has a downs syndrome child, a son going to Iraq. She beat down the republican corruption in Alaska, and she has a strong oil backround.
She has said that drilling in Anwar is safe , and is only on 2000 acres,on a 6 million acre area. Who but an Alaskan resident would know better. Alaska is our biggest domestic area for oil,and we need it more than ever.
Delaying the rep convention was the right idea too.The republicans need a good convention to counter the democratic hollyweird prodution.
