Sit back, relax and listen to this music. Are you feeling relaxed? Did you know you're getting healthier with every note? Researchers say listening to Mozart can actually lower your blood pressure. They had elderly nursing home patients listen to the classical musician or relaxation tapes three times a week or more, those who did saw their systolic blood pressure drop five percent by listening to Mozart, six percent with the relaxation CD's.

Now I can't say I'm shocked by these findings...but I am happy to know there's a health benefit to boot. I often listen to music to chill out and relax and sometimes it's classical...mostly jazz...but if I'm stressing out in the future, I may just call on Wolfgang and the gang to settle my nerves.

What kind of music soothes your soul?

That old time Rock n' Roll soothes my soul. (Waits to see if anyone gets that reference)

I've always been a big fan of heavy metal music (the list of bands could go on for a while) and when that doesn't do the trick, I usually pop in some Warren Zevon, Dire Straits or Skynyrd or whatever comes to mind.

I enjoy my share of classical music, too, but usually only if it's played on guitar or piano and if it's in a minor key of some sorts. I don't mind the occasion major up-beat tunes, but it seems like no matter my mood something minor does the trick.

Ock, I do believe this link will answer your question in terms of me: http://social.zune.net/member/Xantun

It doesn't show on that site, but I've got my fair share of classical music as well...Great for sitting in endless gridlock and/or REALLY confusing my neighbors! (Plus I flat-out enjoy it)

Matt,

Do you reminisce about the days of old while you're listen to that old time rock n' roll? What about the blues and the funky old soul?

Mark,
I really like to listen to soft rock. Really, really like 106.7 after 8pm, nice music. I live instrumentals too, especially the saxophone so I'm one of those rare ones that really like Kenny G.

When I moved here 10 years ago, I believe that Fox25 (Fox13 at the time) did a study showing the link between agressive driving and music with a heavy beat. The study showed that drivers seemed to be more aggressive when they were listening to rap, heavy metal or classic rock. The study also showed that drivers were more calm when they listened to slower more soothing music such as classical and easy listening.
When I want to calm down I listen to Strauss, Wagner, older Elvis, Dean Martin, Perry Como and Patsy Cline.

I like the classical jazz like John Coltrain, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, and a few others. I also listen to easy listening and to christian comptemporary like Amy Grant, Twila Paris, Steve Green, Kathy Trocolli, and Kim Boyce. I also like listening to Chopin and Bach too.

The Beatles, definitely. They always seem to perk me up or relax me.

Into the Mystic by Van Morrison or Caravan, very relaxing. Classical is ok. Got to be in the mood.

Moody Blues, Fleetwood Mac, Journey are also to be added to my list, as well. But, the Beatles are my favorite.

Ock, Classical music and a sound machine play the sounds of the surf and seagulls, not to mention a humidify are the sounds that fill my room to calm me and maybe help me sleep. The alternative is the cab co. across the street blowing horns, the club with kids hanging in front of the door smoking or just the general noise that rocks the Fenway. I just trade one noise for another.

fenwaydav,

Interesting entry. Started my day (and most Sunday's) listening to Sunday Morning Jazz on Magic 106.7. But the rest of the week I listen to a wide variety of music...Rock, Classic Rock, Soul, R$B and Country. SirB, I like you need to be in the mood for Classical.

Ock, The Classical stuff is just to help me sleep. When I am awake, that's a whole other ballgame. I guess my fav is classic rock. A little Meatloaf and Queen is usually on the Menu, I like certain soundtracks also.

Mark,

I always listen to Sunday morning jazz in my car when I'm headed to my office. Very relaxing. I love smooth jazz, all kinds of jazz actually. David Sanborn, Sade, Thelonious Monk, Chris Botti, Miles Davis, Winton Marsalis, too many to mention.

Another good Sunday morning listen is the blues on WZLX. I listened this morning and they played some greats that you'd never normally hear.

Hi Mark,

I guess for me I like all kinds of music, depending on my mood at the time. I enjoy the oldies, some Reggae, R&B, Country, Show Tunes, Salsa Merengue and Mexicano. LOL I don’t know what their saying, but it sounds good. Pretty eclectic isn’t it Mark?

Then there are the days when I come home and sit down in that big old recliner and listen to nothing but the good old sweet sounds of silence.

jovanone,

You do like a lot of different kinds of music. Good for you...so many people shut off other genres without giving them a chance.

sirB I'll have to check it out...love the blues. Oldies 103 has a good Elvis Only show on Sundays. Other shows I like Back to the 80's Friday night on Mix 98.5, Sounds of Sinatra on WPLM on Saturday's, Barry Scott's Lost 45's show on Sundays and Joe Cortez's Songs of the Video Generation on Sunday's on 98.5...although I can't listen as much as I'd like because I'm usually working.

And Matt, I'll work on her...you'd be surprised how much she knows about music.
