Please Save Us From David Archuleta!

The kid is a good singer. The teenyboppers love him, too. Those two facts mean David Archuleta is probably the next American Idol.
 
That doesn't change my fact that Archuleta is the most aggravating Idol personality since Brian Dunkleman.
 
To me, he's not authentic. He sang "Another Day in Paradise" by Phil Collins in the Final 16 round. After the song, he made some comment about the homeless that was clearly fed to him.
 
Then tonight, he said it would be "fun" to sing "Love Me Tender" by Elvis. Fun isn't the word I'd use. If you aren't familiar enough with Elvis to say something informed about him just call him a legend and call it a night.
 
On the other, Syesha Mercado understands who she's singing and showed it again with two superb performances.
 
Save us, Syesha!

MattyG, David A, is not just a good singer...he's an outstanding singer! He is the best of the bunch, but whether he wins is another matter.

The best never seems to win, but it is the second best that seems to end up with the spoils, i.e. recording contracts, big sales, and public exposure. So, regardless of whether he wins or not, he's going to make it big in the music biz.

And, I think what might make him lose is what you mention...his personality. When he's not singing, he seems to have no confidence in himself. But, we have to remember he is very young and that could change over time. I think he'll always be very quiet and unasuming, though. I just hope stardom doesn't do him in, because it takes a strong personality to withstand the celebrity arena!

He's my pick, though, and I picked him from the start....just like I picked Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion when they were still "unknowns".

Sorry to post twice, but wanted to say that I wouldn't be suprised to see David C. win because he is a very good singer, but he also has the looks and confidence needed. Problem is, though, he isn't that versatile; he has his own niche and doesn't do well outside of it.

And, Syesha, same thing...she's only good at singing a certain genre, and although has an excellent voice, she doesn't stand out from other singers; her voice is not unique and is not that 'recognizable'.

Okay...I'm done. :)

david cook not versatile??? seriously David A only sings slow songs and when he does upbeat one he forgets the lyrics, exhibit A Elvis week.

at least david cook can sing fast and slow. i also think david cook has the heart for it. i ask you to think of each weeka nd who you couldn't help but think of. David cook, albeit pitty for some voters, has a hard home life, his brother with a brain tumor, and thousands of miles away. i have cancer, but that's not why i vote for him, i vote for him because the songs he sings get stuck in my head. Billie jean? best song of the season. Carly smithson, greatest female vocals of the season....

the two davids are going to head off in the finals. we'll see whom gets the title.


p.s. my friends who were voting for carly are now voting for cook. david A is the wayne newton of this generation. sad really.

I think David A. will win. He's not the best singer, imo. He is just a well-packaged voice, which means he's the next Rick Astley.

David C. is better and could thrive as front man in a rock band the way Daughtry has. He's also creative.

Syesha is way better than I thought. And I disagree that she's good in one genre only. She did a great Proud Mary and was on point in show tunes. She also got some hair and fashion tips from someone, too.

I laughed when Taylor Hicks compared David A. to Wayne Newton. But, Wayne is still going strong after almost 50 years. There's worse things you could be. At least he didn't call him Ruben Studdard.

David Cook will definitely win seeing as Daughtry didn't and look how far he's going! I like David A. But honestly he' predictible and YAWN boring. He'll be fine though. I like him but his squinting drives me up the wall. UGH. Hey, anyone know what happened to Melinda Doolittle? I thought we'd hear more about her... But Anyway, back to this season... David Cook ROCKS
